Because it will be stupid to keep looking for hours with multispectral and nothing in system to look for.
The one i found last night took 2 scans on the mulit to find a sig. This might be a bug as this is the only time i have rescanned with a multi. It then took about an hour to get within 1 Au of the site. I have been somewhat happy with the exploration. Rewards might be a bit higher but i am having fun all the same. I do agree with KIA that invention an a huge disappointment. If the data interfaces dropped off other things besides these hidden sites it would be really nice.

I have not yet done exploration, and I appreciate all the info given so far.
My question is simple: Are there limits to the ship sizes that can be used? In other words, are you going through gates that may have ship size limits? Or are they simply areas of space with rats in them when you warp there?
The reason I ask this is because of my prior COSMOS experience: While some locations allowed BS in, many were limited to Frigs or Destroyers. Personally, I don't want to take a Carrier (which should be the ultimate exploration ship), and find out that I can't get into the sites.

Guys seriously look at it from CCPs point of view. If they open up exploration right from the beginning with INSANE rewards for everyone that finds a complex/belt/etc they have the potential to seriously mess up the economy which could take ages to repair.
Alternatively they could open up exploration, make it fairly difficult with minor rewards at first to see HOW much people find, how often, what they get from it, etc, and then slowly make the rewards greater or the make them easier to find so as to not blow a giant hole in the economy.

So does certain hidden objects typically display the same signature?
Like will complexes be of one type of signature typically(like radar or ladar), while celestial hidden objects like asteroids and gas clouds be gravimeteric or something?
My goal right now is just hidden belts and maybe gas, can i focus on one type of sig and racial probe type that is, or likly to be, belt and gas specific?

It took me over 2 hours yesterday to find a hidden complex once I knew it was in system. The whole chance-based thing is SO annoying, I'd rather have it say that it couldn't pin-point the deadspace instead of having to scan 20 times on the same bloody planet without knowing if its actually the right planet.
It also took me uh, 3-4 scans per probe (had to work my way down from quest -> persuit -> comb -> sift). Only to find a deadspace with biggest size, cruisers, and nothing else. Sure it looked cool, but I blew up everything and nothing dropped

could exploration site rewards ramp up like they do for new missions? Maybe that type of exploration site just hasn't been done enough yet.

Wow.
Perhaps it's just my nature, but exploration is the coolest thing I've ever done in Eve. And I've done almost everything, and I love this game already. It should be difficult.. other wise it would be "cookbook" like so many other parts of the game.
I trained the skills for tractor beams because I knew how valuable they'd be. People whined and they nerfed the reqs. I trained for salvaging because I knew how valuable it would be. People whined and they nerfed the reqs.
I trained the skills for exploration, and they make a big difference. Stop whining.
