i've had two major experiences with anti-pirates... firstly, i was in an alliance called ICA (early 2006 ICA, not earlier when it still made sense) who were constantly victimized by the local pirates, RHNVY. they decided to have a go about once a week (always on weekends... fancy that) and would blob up with a gang of 20+ to go hunt down 5 or 6 guys. they'd camp one gate in a two-gate system, not even know how to align... gargh. makes me sick.
my second experience was much more interesting. i was in crest tech at the time, and we had chased a war target clear out of a region. with spies and locators working perfectly, we tracked them to a system in domain called faswiba, and began to pwn again. shortly after, we recieved a war dec from a corp called CCCP, Inc. who turned out to be some of the more crafty pvpers i've ever fought. they'd bait us, snipe us, bait us some more, and only blobbed us once or twice. we took some losses, they took some losses, but at the end of the day we forced our target's submission and ended up going home happy.
so, in short... yeah. most anti pirate corps are naive carebears who have been victimized by pirates due to not wanting to play eve the way you have to in low sec (keep an eye on local etc.) and only very few are veteran fighters with more experience than the average pirate and more resources as well.

Let start by saying I am a pirate at heart, I would love nothing more than to slaughter the nublets running missions and sell their loot right back to them (I would be satisfied just by blowing up their ship and ruining their day). I am one of those people who finds joy by robbing it from others.
That said, I have been running missions hardcore since the day I subbed, waiting for my skills to tick up, first I wanted my learning skills, now I want tech 2 missile launchers and a tech 2 shield tank. I have another three months of training and mission running before I have the necessary skills and gear to go do what I want to do.
And that is be a pirate, or rather, a pirate-pirate. All the evil and malice of a pirate, except directed in such a way that I can still fly to Jita and the carebears (who make the items) love me. In addition, I get better loot! A carebear mining might have tech 2 miners, but a faction-fitted cruiser flown by XXXXX infamous local pirate is likely to be loaded down with all the loot from everyone he has killed.
I imagine it is the people with my mentallity (I am not so arrogant as to assume I will succeed, but I certainly hope so) who are the dangerous ones, while the carebears who climb into PVP ships on the weekends to "hunt outlaws" are hardly a dangerous lot.
Pirates love PVP, and thus they are good at it; A pirate-pirate is the same kind of player with a different set of targets. Carebears do not have the same bloodlust, and thusly do not evoke the fear that a hardened killer would.

so far what i've seen from anti pies:
young characters in battlecruisers and bs's who are champion smacktalkers.
they know nothing about pvp, setting up a quality ship and flying it well. all they do is try to bait me into one of their blob traps and yammer in local when i wont engage.
of course this has all been from one corp... and i wont embarrass these idiots in public but if they read this they know who they are.

The term anti pirate is too broad, a lot of corporations claim to be anti-pirate but few of them actively hunt pirates.
The only time i've ever run into anti-pirates was in Bleak Lands where the mission runners have set up a neighbourhood watch channel. Basically what happens is, if a solo pirate kills one of the flock they take their PVE fitted battleships, put a scrambler and web on it and rush in overzealous, clueless and talking smack.

I didnt know who to quote...
I disagree totally with the anti pirates being noobs and smacktalking fools
I have been both. I was raised in mamet patrol as antipirate and we would police the area very effectivley. Try pirate in providence without being slaughtered by CVA, one of the most professional anti pirate alliances in game.
Our gangs were both cunning and effective. We had many tricks; bait, pretend ratters, battle badgers, domi's with mining drones, and of course...warp bubbles and dictors ;)
Some may call me a pirate now, but I have been smack talked far more by pirates losing their faction fitted doom machines than anyone else.
Now I get smack talked by pirates AND anti pirates....oh well

At a quick glance seems like most succesful anti-pirates do it part time. Or in a word, they're full time pvp corps who hunt pirates when they don't have anything else to do. Mercenary Coalition , maybe Celes. CVA seems to have bit of a rep as well.
I'd imagine same applies more widely , pirates have to be good at staying alive so it'd work to reason the people who do kill them most would be experienced.

My first experience with the term "anti-pirate" was with CVA (while in huzzah). Needless to say, they have some fearsome pilots within their ranks. I remember flying a few months ago into xxx(whatever system is right outside misaba), where our gang ganked a raven. Within about 30 seconds, they had an Eos and some other ungodly thing on top of us. Thank god they primaried my omen instead of our deimos....
However, I do aggree that in general, "anti-pirates" are noobs, carebears, or whatever who have ended up on the wrong side of pirates a few too many times, and attempted to fight back against it (yay blob).

Antipirates? Fill the same spectrum as pirates. I currently tend to be anti-pirate (although I was pirate for the majority of my EVE career), and find that we tend to see a great many noob pirates who die almost embarrassingly easily and are child's play to catch, and the occasional very crafty one (normally flying Minmatar ships, hard to catch ;) ). The same is true of those who like to call themselves antipirate - a lot of noobs, with some very experienced and professional players.
I suspect that this spread is true of all players throughout the entire game. People just don't tend to notice it in the mission running or mining crowd.

tbh every time we were attacked by so-called antipirates, i wouldnt have known the difference if i was not told who they are
i think only i. empire is the term 'antipirate' given a sort of meaning, and thats only because you can aggress outlaws at gates without sentry fire, but not the other way around.

I've never really had much problems with anti-pirates, there's a few out there though that are a true challenge, but they seem to be mostly ex-pirates gone straight in my experience.
The anti-pirates are only a nuisance when they decide to blob up and then call you a coward for not coming out solo in your BS to fight their 10 man BS gank fleet :D

the pirates that talk about anti-pirates not fighting fair, well it works both ways. i lost count of the times i camped a pirate gang in solo only to see local grow smaller with the log offs.

Typically speaking, antipirates are not a threat at all.
99% of them will bring battleships to omgpwn my solo frigate, with few or no tacklers. Rarely does the blob of poorly fit ships piloted by highsec miners leave jump range of the high sec gate or dock range, all the while smacking local and generally acting like tards. Every now and again, they'll leave for a safespot, which we usually probe out and bookmark for later reference, once we've divided the blob a bit and thinned their numbers, then jump the ss and clear out the remainders (comparable to the second flush for the floaters).
Every now and again you get some really inventive antipirates that do succeed. One day while making my rounds, I found a occator t2 hauler in a belt. I couldn't beleive it. My alt on the gate reassured me there was no ganksquad, the only other pilots in local were friendly and 2 long time members of different noob corps that were docked. So I warp in and put 6 points on the hauler, immediately followed by a t2 blaster brutix. We take it to strcture, and in what would have been its last few seconds of existance, the two seemingly unassociated noobcorp members drop out of warp in a pair of scorpions. Leaving us jammed (the hauler had done the tackling) and subsequently destroyed. Was a brilliant trap, and Ibeleive he got 2 more kills throughout the day in the very system, and I've seen him operating in other nearby systems doing the very same.
Now I know that t2 haulers don't normally end up in belts, especially not alone, won't be falling for that again. With very few exceptions, such as that, antipirates are just loud-mouthed NPC's with crappy loot tables.

Edited by: Robbie Boozecruise on 27/12/2006 01:36:34 if you encounter good anti pirates they are a threat but there are alot of things working against them that make it easier for the pirate. as i explain below
killing pirates is the hardest of all forms of PVP but in the end is the most rewarding. i first went into anti piracy when i still had k starwind and you had to spend ages BMing out gates i normally had 24BM's for each gate then you had to get the covert ops on top of the pirate then you also had to have enough mods to scram him and not risk your setup so most of the time you are fighting in partially gimped setups.
catching pirates on gates is a bit easier as you have concord to help you but there are a lot of pirates that are not -5.0 yet they are just starting off so i ended up with -9.2 sec so i had pirate hunters shooting me (the noob ones in cruisers and BC's so the sec would decrease even more)
I think it is the hardest thing to do in eve as you are trying to kill people who are setup to kill or run and have no problems safe-ing up if blobbed. to do it good you need to:
engage on they terms let them have more number/firepower gimp your setups to catch them
if you dont do the above the chances of finding a pirate that will not warp out and safe if outnumbered/outgunned or stay in a belt and die just because he felt like dying is slim to none

I wont name any names of the pirate or the corp involved but...
I was ratting in 0.0 with my Hyperion and tanking a BS. The local alliance has declared itself as anti-pirate. Well this Tier 2 Amar BC warp jammed me and launched drones. I used my MWD and got on him fairly quickly and took him down to armor really quickly. The whole time I /screamed in local that a pirate was engaging me. From the time it took me to take down his shields 5 ships from the alliance/corps had jumped into the belt. Soon as that happened he warped out and left system.
So yes, I like the anti-pirates where I reside in space. The next time it might not be a BC trying to get me, lol.

The only anti-pirates that I ever had any trouble with were Marko Debrault (whatever corp he was in), CoC, MC, and I think KIA busted up one of our camps too.
The vast majority of anti-pirates have goo for brains.
That being said, ANY anti-pirate corp with half a brain and about 10 good battleship pilots should be able to EASILY break up 99% of all the empire gatecamps in eve. For some reason this doesn't happen very often, I blame the goo.

The game mechanics don't really suit 'anti-piratism'. There isn't a large enough number of pirates or any need for them to hang around and fight.
Maybe we'll see a ressurection of the trade with the death of the WCS as its easier to pin people down now, maybe not.
We don't really do it anymore, too many members, too little entertainment. It only suits a corp of less than 20 active members if thats all they're going to do.

I've seen some 'anti'-pirates. They roam around in blobs trying to gank people. Then they enter 0.0 and pirate under the NBSI policy.
All of the so-called antipi's i've met have been hypocritical numbskulls. The ones that were actually any threat were more PvP-seekers than anti-pirates. The only thing that would make sense, is if the 'anti' in antipirate meant smacktalking buffoon.

Anti-pirates, lol if you are a low sec pirate you more then likely blinking red "outlaw".
So technically everyone who choses can shoot me without sentry fire, so i guess every Tom, **** or even Harry is an Anti-Pie.
It's for the same reason it makes me laugh when a pirate corp "low sec " gets war deck'ed. Why waste your ISK if ya could shoot them anywhere anytime without any sec hit???????
