I'm new to the game ( be gentle), and I like the idea of hauling across the universe.
Is it worth training up to do this? Are there actually things for an Obelisk pilot to do? And is it lucrative?
Many thanks,

Yes, getting ganked in hisec.
More seriously (though ganking is very real, Zkillboard has a whole section dedicated to it, https://zkillboard.com/kills/freighters/) , you can join a Freight organization like Red Frog. But you need to make sure you have a webbing alt and that you're good at webbing, else you will get ganked. And they might just gank your web alt and then gank your freighter.
Most useful freighting in jump freightering when you are part of a lowsec or null corp/alliance. |

yes freighters are worth it, if you fly them right...and not get ganked by freaking CODE. (research them) otherwise yes they are excellent for bulk moving of things...although you might be better witha T2 cloaky or Deep space transport... |

You can make isk, but most activities can make more. A freighter also requires a lot of investment in training time and the initial cost of the freighter.
There are people who enjoy it. But I'd suggest you try hauling with a T1 ship to find out if you're one of them before committing to a freighter. There is a hauler's channel that you can join to ask questions of people who do it.
I got a freighter for industry purposes. I've never been ganked but I'm particular about keeping the cargo value low and tank as much as possible. I'm also very careful around the few known trouble systems. You could start out hauling in Amarr space where it's less dangerous than flying through the Jita pipes.

Freighters are good to move low end minerals, ore, and battleships. For most other things, there is a better option since the ratio of cost to size begins to make freighters unattractive for other items.
And look: they're a pain in the ass to fly. I fairly regularly make ~12 jumps each way in a Providence. Depending on the exact fit and how many stops I make it doesn't surprise me if it takes me an hour. It would surprise me if it only took half an hour. The same run in a DST takes, what, maybe 20 minutes round trip including unloading/sorting/etc?
Some people seem to find the whole thing relaxing. I don't. But it's a hell of a lot cheaper than paying someone else to move my materials. |

I make 80-100 m an hour so far hauling for N+ëE. With about 1b in imps, I get 2au/s or 3 if I sacrifice my lows. With s webber ur instead warping, so, since the limiting factor is the 60 second ago timer on the webber, it takes about 80 seconds a jump. Not all that bad, with others to talk to as well. I find it fun, but you may not. And a trial acc can use a webber, so you only need two accounts if you're in a hauling corp; otherwise you only need 1. |

If your looking to do hauling as a career I suggest at least 3 characters. 1 freighter pilot. 1 scout trained in interceptor. 1 Webber(hugin or rapier)/cyno Having these 3 characters will allow you to move about with near impunity in high sec.
Hugin/rapier with recon trained to 5 is like 60km webs with federation navy webs. Allowing you to web your freighter from anywhere in the gate.
Interceptor is for scouting ahead and if your freighter gets bumped can be a warp to point.
There is a lot of money to be made hauling especially if you're seeding a null sec market. Depending on your supply route you will want multiple cyno alts. Train cyno 5 and propulsion jamming to 4 for t2 webs. Use cyno/webbing rookie ships to your heart's content. |

For high sec, I use a slasher as my scout/webber. Jump through with webber first to scout, warp to mobile depot or nearest warp to, jump through with freighter, warp to freighter, web. Cheaper and fewer skills. |

Just being a stranger and hauling stuff for other people isn't an easy thing to do. They need to get to know you and trust you first.
If you manufacture things, or sell things in bulk, Freighter is worth its cost for time saved.
If you have 2 or more accounts, a freighter pilot is good to have.
Before you ever get the Freighter, you will be able to pilot the largest hauler first. Try that for a bit and I think you'll be able to answer your own question.

this is the most silliest question ever!

well yeah its worth training for freighters....
another question = Are there actually things for an Obelisk pilot to do?....well yeah....hauling across the universe
its like saying "i want to be a racing car driver so is it worth learning to drive?"

If you want to haul I'd rather go for the Providence (Amarr) since it can have more tank, which can be pretty relevant in high-sec with freighter ganks being common. For massive amounts of items I like my Charon (Caldari) because it has the most available m3.
Generally freighters with more base armor are easier to tank because of low slot resist modules, which shield doesn't have (and freighters doesn't have midslots). That said, if a group wants to gank you, they'll just bring a few more ships to make sure you die. |

Yes they are very worth it. I use mine all the time to move people for isk. When I am hauling valuable crap I will usually pay a few buddies to escort me. I also do a lot of manufacturing. Will build enough stuff to fill the freighter then get an escort to a trade hub where I sell it all and more than enough to pay for the cost of my escort and lots of profit. You just have to fly smart since CCP hasn't given the freighter any ability to fend off so much as a single frig you want to be escorted. |

Freighters are worth it for moving lots of cheap stuff, but if you plan to move anything of actual value, Transport Ships are the way to go.

Jorn Worth what? What is "it"? It = get rich quick ...? It = having fun ....? It = the best laid plans of mice and men ..?
Depends on what "it" is.
"And is it lucrative?" (being another question than above). Yes it can be, if you join a corp that does that and make a name for yourself. Otherwise, if just about money, I'd pick either combat pilot or market trader, or both as trader isn't too skill intensive. But if you just like to haul because = fun, well haul. Try smaller haulers first, not much of a difference, other than cargo space.

You won't use it as often, I think, if hauling is not your main profession, but for a mission runner like myself, it's rather nice having something that can make large hauls with bulk loot. Just be sure to stay awake at the keyboard; look alive, stay alive. Like most things that are large investments, I would avoid it if you have no real long term need for it. If you can see yourself using it more than once or twice, then it's worth considering at least.
