I'm just going to interject with this somewhat relevant quote.
"Welcome to the internet. Where men are men, women are men, and girls are FBI agents."
If you're on IE, pretend this is transparent while you get a better browser. |

What, you can't get your mic to work on TS either?

Naw, my mic works fine. I'm honestly curious. Why do you care so much what the person behind the toon is? Are you under some illusion that you're actually going to get some from EVE players or something?

Never really had that problem. Every girl I've dated needed sex more than me. I never need it. I just enjoy it. Anyway, I move around too often to get anything resembling a solid relationship going. Maybe 3 years in Okinawa will help change that trend. ___________________________________

Well I have in the past (not on EvE) but thats not an issue.
Most guys pretending to be RL females playing tend to have 'issues' or are just looking for free stuff the horny gamer guys cough up. One thing I've seen over the years is that 'female' players are often quickly promoted in guilds and the like, for obvious reasons (ability not being the reason) and it was quite amusing when programs like TS came along how many females turned out to have deep voices or mic issues. ;)
I'd like to know who I'm talking to in corp chat and the like. If someone wants to pretend to everyone in corp they are female and be treated as such thats great but I want no part of it.
Of course I did find this quite amusing

Edited by: franny on 17/12/2006 09:01:28 I met my wife at work, she was 25, I was 21 and her shift lead(and no not at a fast food joint, in a datacenter) she stopped arguing with me about games
but I won't try to convert her anymore either, we seperated/divorced for 2 yrs, and in that time I met an older woman who became my live in gf for a while(sex was great and all, older women are sexy), but she got very addicted to EQ she had a couple strg units she needed to clean out and rather than do that she would play, she'd make tv dinners rather than cook so she could play, things like that eventually things like that, coupled with money issues(she was paying more to the strg units then to her half of the bills), lead me to get ****ed off enough to break up with her with me broken up, my ex-wife didn't have half the hate(she blamed and thus hated my ex-gf for stealing me away, but my wife filed for divorce before I met her ), and we managed to reconcile
so be very careful when dating a gamer, that they have their head on straight me I work 40-50hrs a week, have 4 kids at home(ranging from 14yrs - ~3mths), and always put the kids 1st ships are replaceable, pods are replaceable, children and love arn't

My thoughts on why people want to know:
1) Curiousity - Most of the people curious about whether that girl avatar is actually a girl are just that, curious. They have a gut feeling and they want to see if they're right or not, and thus try to get them on Vent or TS to confirm or deny it - once they know, most don't care anymore and don't act differently; just from my gaming experiences I'd wager about 80% or more are like this.
2) Cyb0r Crowd - This is the next step that some people'd take, going further with the knowledge that a person's actually a girl and seeing if they can develop a relationship with that person. Why? *shrugs* maybe they're ugly in real life and no one likes them, or they prefer gamer girls, or a variety of other reasons, but they want to create and develop a relationship with anyone female. Annoying? Yes, but in EVE you could at least pod them back to the stone age or block them.
3) RL Stalker - the first two are harmless and annoying respectively, but I see this very small minority as actually dangerous. A few girls I've worked with ingame have actually told their friends, corpmates, and myself on forums what's happened to them, from creepy emails to strangers somehow getting an MSN nick of theirs and confessing their love to them, etc. These guys need to get their heads checked and can be very dangerous, and are one of the reasons im my opinion why we don't see more girls in online games. These people want to get some from their ingame "lovers" at any cost .
I fall into the neutral or curiousity category personally. I either don't care, or am curious to see if a hunch I have is right, and then let it be and continue about my business - do us a favor though, if you spot some creep, name and shame him on the forums, I don't want to ever recruit someone like that into the corps or alliances I play with.

Lots of people SAY they don't care, but then spout the "everyone is a man til proven otherwise" nonsense. That means they not only care, they feel they have to have some sort of emotional protection from female avatars.
That's just very weird to me.

Right.
Is it just me or should "No Girls on the Internet!" be listed as a phobia?

To be brutally honest, some days I wonder if a minority of people actually believe that.
If that was the case, maybe it should be considered phobic .

I have met several ppl in game who claim to be women but turns out very few really are. I actually find it quite refreshing to have a female voice on TS, i think the female touch adds something to the game.
I was once sent a picture from a girl as a ransom offer as she has no money apparently but the website address in the corner afforded 'him' a podding.
i do wish more women would join eve as the diversity in the eve population is what makes it so good imo.

I'm currently dating a gamer, or rather living with one. In fact, I moved my last stuff in yesterday (had a big moving party, lots of people helping out).
I didn't catch him at 18 though. Quite the contrary. I managed to seduce him at the age of 29, and like most gamers he had no idea I was hitting on him until I practically landed in his lap. Or, bed as the case would be.
The great thing about him is that he cooks. Really well. Even better than me. This means that there are no starving gamers in our home (except when I'm playing Eve and forget to eat, that is). We're both horribly bad at doing dishes though. It's a good thing our new apartment has a dishwasher. :)
I've given up on making him a good Eve player, unfortunately. He's only got one account, and he haven't ventured into 0.0 space with it since E-UNI left IPS.
So, yeah, sometimes the nerdy gamer boys do land hot gamer chicks. And sometimes (as in my case), the nerdy gamer chicks will have to knock the hot gamer guys over the head to make them notice.

if you ever meet a ruthless, merciless player anywhere in eve that is the ebodiment of evil in eve.......it will be a women...they are just better at it than men.
Us guys fight, drink alot and argue etc.....but only women have the massive level of vindictivness to be truly evil....which is why if Satan does auctully exist its going to be female.
