Hey,
I was wondering, I just had an auction for a very well specialised Caldari PvP character with 20m SP and a buyout of 3.4b with no reserve, and the highest I got was 3.1b...Before i saw those type characters sell for 4b quite easily. And industrial and research characters have gone down much worse.
Is there any major underlying reason for this?

I don't know what happened ...
I sold a 19m SP Caldari PvP specialist for 4.3b and a 3m minmatar for 800m.
Now people are getting 35m SP chars for 4b.
Obviously this is not the time to sell characters.

Reckon it might be due to CCP's changes to character creation and starting off with 800k SP instead of 100k on average before?

The 700k SP extra is minor compared to the total SP of any character being sold. I don't think that's the reason.

Perhaps people have invested a lot of isk into the new ship BPOs and don't have a lot to spend anymore on characters?

The surge in the price of trit can't be helping either.

Actually, in part due to this, I genuinely believe we've hit a bit of temporary deflation. Note also that a lot of "standard" faction modules and ships have dropped--DG Invulnerability Fields are hitting 260m or so, and CNR's are under a billion. Actually, there might be another explanation for the CNR price drop, but the invulns' drop rates haven't changed.

So the general consent is that the prices will rise back to 'normal'? As in 200m per SP fr good PvP chars and 100-150m for industrials?
I ask cause if so i'll delay selling 3-4 characters for later

The change of prices in faction and officer stuff modules comes from the replacement of escrow with contracts. Escrow was easy to use. One look at it and everybody could use it to find whatever he wants. Thats a bit more difficult with contracts. Selling your stuff is hard now, i've stopped trading at all and the plex farmers that supplied me with bulk deals before are non too happy about having to sell their stuff now. Well... at least partly the contracts system is to blame. :-( -- |

You need to factor in market saturation. Surely there is some point at which everyone who wants one or more alts of various flavours has got them. Then you are left with either character disposal (bad reputation in-game, will buy another character) or the smaller stream of players who want another character and have the money to purchase one.

I've actually got a good idea now as to why this may be. If you've noticed, GTC prices have gone down a lot again, and imo about half of the people that buy Chars aren't buying alts but are buyign their first main with rl money, just they do it through gtc. Now with gtc being cheaper, they can't get as much money as before and hence aren't prepared to pay more?

Don't be too sure about the new characters.
I created a Caldari toon with 808,507 SPs
Intelligence 9 Perception 14 Charisma 3 Willpower 9 Memory 10
Electronics 4 Electronic upgrades 1 Engineering 2 Shield Compensation 2 Shield Operation 3 Shield Upgrade 2 Gunnery 5 Sharpshooter 1 Small Hybrid 5 Mining 1 Iron Will 2 Learning 1 Spatial Awareness 4 Missile Bombardment 3 Missile Launcher Op 4 Rapid Launch 3 Rockets 4 Standard Missiles 3 Science 2 Caldari Frigate 3 Spaceship Command 4
Now tell me if I'm wrong but that's a REALLY NICE setup and very targeted toward Caldari Bonuses. I mean I could if I wanted to go get Small Hybrid Specialist. Can't exactly complain about that. And the missile and Shield skills to boot.
No additional training is needed if you wanted to go out and have a rocket spamming hard hitting Kestrel

there you have your answer
you sell 3 chars and wonder why prices drop?
Its like everything else in this game.... greedy tards like him start 12000 chars in order to sell them in one year for omg 12 billion each.... mostly all of this chars are named 5h1th3ad 1-12 with a standard skill tree like hac med gund II and learnings....let me tell you one thing you are not the first and not the only one selling charas in order to make the nber wallet.....
for those who sold their chars for less then an apple an egg...your fault ..... its a char if price doesnt meet your desire dont sell it...(mention it in auction!!)

I think the Power of 2 program had a lot to do with more characters being available for sale, and thus the drop in price and sales.
