With all the new ship skins that have been coming from the art department, I think it could be great to have a skin that is unlocked once the pilot has the mastery skills set for said ship. Other than an optional tick you can show off in your character sheet (that no one looks at) there's no other way to tell if you have mastered a ship.
I think once you have gained that level five certificate you should be awarded a permanent skin for that said ship but is then locked to your account; just to show off and prove that your earned it.
What do you guys think?

The best way to find out if someone has "mastered" their ship is for them to kill you in it.

Will support this idea only if every mastery skin has a brown starfish on it to demonstrate how anal you are about that ship class.
EvE is hard. It's harder if you're stupid.

I think a skin is kind of over the top and would compete with the current skin frenzy. How about as they go through the next round of texture upgrades you could add a place on each ship that would indicate max skills for a this or that.
Ex. Gal cruiser to 5 would put a red nose cone on your thorax (or whatever ship you're in) Med blasters to 5 would make the blasters Black Med blaster spec to 5 would make them red Armor Tanking mastery would make certain parts of the hull black
and so on. This might be more doable after the brain in a box stuff is up and running.
I'd like to point out that I panned way back in late 07 and I'm not sure I even know what a thorax looks like anymore
There are 2 sides to this, the epeen look at me side of it and the "I'm a harmless drake in a belt minding my own business" bait side of it. Epeen wants it out there and bait drake doesn't. I would want consideration for some form of a toggle on this feature to accomodate both play styles. |

buy some of the are you serious priced skins on market, roll around in some pvp, not have ship and the skin that can be way more than the hull price die. You have shown your mastery. As well....the skins would probably slide you up the list of stuff to kill right now right now if only for the giggles and potential tears. |

It is actually. Your bad idea was lonely. So I gave it some company with bad English.
Mastery is a (useless) number. Actually knowing how to fly is better in the long run. If you have actually mastered the ship then putting what can be a several hundred million isk skin on it is a great way to show that.
People will probably go out of their way to kill the ship. Your mastery would be seen in defeating them. As I know I am a master or pretty close (by skill level) on quite a few ships. I also know I can find many good non-master pilots (again by skill level) who will have little issue making my ship explode.

I like this idea, and would support it. This is certainly something that would be well deserved for hitting mastery 5 on a ship. |

Supported. makes it kind of unique to get them. Right now it is like "ugh, why bother training all these skills to V when the combined bonus is 1%". 448 dps with all level 4, 451 with all 5. |
