Something I've noticed recently while browsing the market is the strange difference between T1/Named X-L Shield Boosters and the T2 version.
The stats for the T2 version trump the T1 versions in everything but fitting(Common to T2). However, at this stage the fitting difference between an XL SB II and a T1/Named SB is inconsequential.
T2 version gives: 400(Cap) / 5(Sec) = 80 Cap / Second 600 Shield / 5(Sec) = 120 Shield / Second 600 Shield / 400(Cap) = 1.5 Shield / Cap
X-Large C5-L Emergency Shield Overload 1: 400(Cap) / 4(Sec) = 100 Cap / Second <Worse> 480 Shield / 4(Sec) = 120 Shield / Second <Same> 480 Shield / 400 Cap = 1.2 Shield / Cap <Worse>
X-Large Neutron: 400(Cap) / 4.5(Sec) = 88.89 Cap / Second <Worse> 440 Shield / 4.5(Sec) = 97 Shield / Second <Worse> 440 Shield / 400 Cap = 1.1 Shield / Cap <Worse>
X-Large Clarity: 400(Cap) / 4.25(Sec) = 94.12 Cap / Second <Worse> 460 Shield / 4.25(Sec) = 108 Shield / Sec <Worse> 460 Shield / 400 Cap = 1.15 Shield / Cap <Worse>
Now, this does not take into account skills as skills. The major difference between T2 and T1/Named is the training time. T2 requires a single skill, Shield Operation, to be trained to 5 while the others only require 3. The difference is 4-8 days of training depending on your Attributes. If you are shield tanking, you'll want Shield operation at 5 anyways. So, with a short training time and double the benefits for the training(Better module, shorter shield regen time), it doesn't make sense for a shield tanker to not train the skill to 5.
The main issue is that in many regions there are hundreds of T1/Named versions of the XL Shield Booster selling every day, but the T2 version only sells 15-30 on a good day. It isn't the cost because at 2-3M each, the T2 version is definitely not expensive.
Is there any real reason why people use T1/Named versions of this module instead of the T2 version? I might be missing something, but the question just plagues me.

Edited by: Alexander Knott on 20/12/2006 00:46:35 It's the fitting cost. The advantage of the T2 booster over the C5-L is power efficiency, which on the Raven often isn't enough to sell people on the extra 60 CPU it costs to fit one.

It might have to do with the people that are using the tech 2 boosters. The players with the skills to use them, most likely lose less ships than the people who can't.

Alexander is correct, it's the fitting. The CPU on a raven is tight as it is. You either go with cl-5 and 1 more pdu or t2 and a co-pro in place of that pdu.
Most people a very reluctant to using fitting mods (other than pdu) so they go the cl-5 route. ---------------------------------------- A Guide to Scan Probing in Revelations |

I used a Large Shield Booster II when I was in a regular raven and my skills weren't so hot. It worked pretty well, maybe even saved my cap back when I often forgot to turn the booster off.

Exactly what Raven setups preclude the extra CPU use the T2 version has and what are the fitting skills that you have when you've had issues with the module?

Edited by: Hoshi on 20/12/2006 01:41:52 6x siege 1x xl boost, 1x boost amp, 3x harderns, 1x painter 0-3x bcu, 2-5x pdu
Would be the standard fitting. A few modifications here or there depending on skills and taste.
For example using t2 siege, t2 hardeners, t2 amp, named painter, 1 t2 bcu and 4 t2 pdus, leaves just above 10 cpu with a cl5 xl booster so you are 50 cpu short with a t2. ---------------------------------------- A Guide to Scan Probing in Revelations |

this other then the raw cap efficency of the Gist-X must be why officer XL boosters sell for a billion.

I'd rather use a T2 Large type other than a named XL if I don't have enough CPU. Efficency is much more important than speed for shield boosting IMO.

If you have the money, go and get a Dread Guristas XL Shield Booster. Same Attributes like the XL T2 but the same CPU need like the C5-L, but you have to spend at least 140Mio ISK. And of course you don't need Shield Operation at lvl 5.
