This game shines in pvp but the pve part is really one of the worst grinds I've ever seen. Since you can't pvp all the time (lack of isk) I think it should be more fun to fight npc's. Right now you have deadspace complexes, mission running and ratting in belts, which all come down to the same thing: killing every npc out there (and maybe bringing back some item)
I have a few suggestions for missions, please add your own too.
-Covert ops missions, these require a cov ops ship and you have to move through a certain area filled with npc's without being seen. -'Stealing' missions, fly a shuttle or a special temporary ship and at some point you have to board another ship and fly it out of there. -Flying INSIDE buildings/complexes, not sure if this is possible with this game engine but it would be fun to be able to fly frigates or maybe special remote-controlled drones inside a building. -No destination is given but you have to use probes to scan a certain criminal down. -Interdictor missions, where you have to launch interdiction spheres to stop a certain group of enemies, perhaps assisted by npc sentries on your side. -Racing contests, fit an interceptor for racing against a certain npc pirate that holds the speed record of a system. -NPC gangs, fly WITH npc's instead of only against them, they would help you and you'd be able to control their targets and such. Only for missioning of course, not against players.
I realise not all suggestions are great but there is enough to do to make missioning a bit more interesting than it is right now and I thought all this stuff up in like 5 minutes. Another benefit of this is that some stuff that is ONLY used in pvp right now like (ship scanning) probes and covert ops would actually have a purpose in pve game play.

You have some nice ideas here. I do agree that the PvE aspect of EvE is lacking. It would be cool if CCP would flush out this aspect of the game a bit more. Of course you would have to flush out all the different mission types, but it could be done.

So long as mission ganking is encouraged in Eve, then one of these ideas can be implimented.
CCP is more than willing to sacrafice balanced and interesting concepts for PvE or anything else if it gets in the way of PvP.

some nice idears.. especially those two where you have to accually control the ships.. but with this engine it wouldn't really be possible, although a cool idear..

Seen a number of complaints along these lines including taking ideas from UT (capture the flag, Domination, Team Deathmatch, Assault (attack/defend an area or objective))

Good idea. Flying a CovOps near an enemy POS and dodgng wrecks is one of the most tense and thrilling jobs in EvE. A deadspace with obstacles and sentry turrets that can be completed faster with a cloaked frigate than with a heavy-tanking battleship would rule. Originally by: Drykor -'Stealing' missions
Brilliant. Have the ship itself be the victory condition, or have some crucial item in the cargo bay and let the player keep the ship upon succeeding. This would be a great way to get more faction ships and mods into circulation. A Navy Issue Caracal with a full Caldari Navy setup would be a sweet find, and even if you had to turn it in or lose huge standings, it would be great to be able to fly it at least until the mission was complete.
I'd add deadspace mining missions that demand a certain percentage of the ore or mineral yield of a hidden belt, so faster miners and more efficient refiners can derive more surplus and thus more profit from the mission. -------------- Civis Ascendant Sum |

Yeah I didn't really intend those ships to be superspecial or even useful but I guess it's possible if those missions are rare, maybe like storyline missions. Also I'm not quite sure what to do with the ship that would get you to the location, if it has to be cheap then the mission can't be too hard combat-wise, if it's expensive then the mission reward better cover the loss of that ship. Or it could be picked up by the faction that gives the mission later, after they 'invaded the territory' since the ship that had to be secured was already out anyway. Could always give some twist to this.

That's not bad, you could tighten the timelimit or demand a required ship that isn't too large to go in, in order to keep profits sane :)
More ideas please, think outside the box, it doesn't have to be completely possible with the current game engine, hell if the idea is good enough they could do some tweaking. And considering you can already have a ship docked in an 'inside' environment, perhaps coding something to fly inside a complex isn't that hard. Though the 'bumping' would be awkward.

I seem to remember flying a mission that didn't require you to kill everything. I wish I could remember what it was, but I had to get to a place, and pick up an item, but all the accelleration gates were unlocked, so I didn't have to kill on the way in. It was a Level 2 I think, and I remember wishing I had a cloaked ship available because it would havebeen a lot easier to just fly in undetected and get the stuff. As it was, the only ship I had was too slow to get to the next gate without taking a HUGE pounding, so i ended up having to fight it out anyways.
