That's the major point of discussion here in the Kingdom. For 300 years, we've fought, bled and died for our autonomy and it was only recently that the Kingdom rejoined the Empire as a sovereign state.
Obviously, I think the best outcome is Khanid's victory in the Trials. The Empire needs stability and a strong military commander and Khanid is the best to provide both. We are at war and need the leadership of a true warrior. However, a Khanid victory will probably signal the end of the Kingdom as a separate political entity.
Should he lose (God forbid), things get murky. He may decide, as in the past, that will not follow the tradition and simply return to the Kingdom as it's king. I don't think this will force another secession from the Empire. Quite frankly, neither side wants another war considering the threat posed by the Drifters. The safe ISK if he loses is that he returns as King and things remain as they are.
In theory, he could die. The Trials are dangerous in and of themselves. Things get really complicated at this point.
Khanid has not named an heir to the throne of the Kingdom or his House. If he names an Heir, that person will be an instant target for political assassination. Why? Without an heir, several Khanid Houses will push for a full union with the Empire. Others will push for renewed autonomy. We would be very lucky to avoid a civil war at that point and let's not forget how this will effect the Kingdom's and Empire's relationships with the Caldari.
So if Khanid wins, House Khanid becomes the Royal House and the Kingdom will likely be fully and completely absorbed into the Empire. This will probably cause several of the more conservative groups and Houses to suffer from a mass Cerebral Vascular Accident.
If he loses? It all depends on his will and if he names an heir. My King has not survived as long as he has by taking chances and not having the next several moves mapped out.
To be sure, these Trials will set the course of Imperial and Kingdom futures for the next thousand years.

It is solely because he has a..... history of ignoring Scriptural Law when it disadvantages him that I would traditionally be against his participation at all. The tradition of the losing competitors exists for a reason. There is no reason he should be able to enter the trials without risk to his person and potentially ascend the throne when in any other situation he would be asked to take his own life.
However this is a decision that so far beyond my station it is not my place to ask whose wisdom brought his participation to fruition. |

To this end, I have faith his Majesty will make the right decision.
He stated all those years ago that it was not his time to die. Now however it seems that God has ordained he must again fight through the trials to be held up to the light, to test his worthiness.
I believe he will succeed.

The Official Position of House Uriza, Is as following: Today, Orders of the Privy Council and Decree to the Faithful from the Theology Council were issued on the matter regarding the Khanid House. House Uriza is satisfied and pleased to see the adoption of our solutions proposed, clarification of a matter among Houses, and the dispensation granted for Garkeh Khanid to stand again for Succession to the Seat of the Emperor.
While House Uriza greatly appreciated the discussion on our white paper on the matter, we are compelled to stress that todayGÇÖs Orders and Decree are binding, legal, and holy directives which have closed the matter at the highest level. Thus they cannot be questioned by the loyal and pious of Our Holy Empire.
House Uriza wishes to acknowledge the immediate and succinct response of the Imperial Succession Committee. As such, we commend for their decisive action and glorify their work for the greater good of our Holy Empire.
Finally, to Our Khanid Brothers and sisters, Welcome Home. It has been far too long since you were in full union in Our Holy Empire. It has been too long your voice has been missing to sing in unison GÇ£From Genesis, Beyond Dam-Torsad, For New Eden one and all.GÇ¥

It's something to consider.
Perhaps it is time for the Council to revisit the subject of Shathol'Syn? Khanid and our late Empress both faced accusations of breaking this and both went on to become very capable rulers. All the Heirs are important and the loss of any of them would diminish the Empire as a whole.
Khanid however, is the best choice. We are at war, we need a warrior. The ramifications of his victory will be complicated, at best.

Well that was a fast course-correction.
I hope you didn't hurt your arm patting yourself on the back. Your paper had absolutely nothing to do with this and the topic has been the subject of discussion long before you tried to interject yourself into matters that are far above your head.
And who said anything about a "full union" with the Empire? King Khanid's standings as an Heir aside, Khanid's legal sovereignty has not changed one iota. You'll notice our trade agreements with State corporations, the Empire and CONCORD are still valid, yes?
I've declared my intention. Who will you fight for?

The Shathol'Syn is likely to have been a progressive and liberal perversion of the Tradition.
Originally, I suspect, the rite involved the sacrifice of the losers' slaves, not the suicide of the losers themselves. As I have elsewhere explained, the liberals and progressives have been slowly altering Scripture throughout the ages, removing references to blood sacrifice and replacing them with instances of self-sacrifice. The Shathol'Syn is one more example of this. |

I have no clue why you have this perception that such authority was never challenged. What was asked if the Khanid wanted to step up into their full glory as Heirs, and if so what were things to consider. And if they didn't want to step up, then nothing had to change. |
