Does anyone know how long space craft stay present when derlict? I tested this with a n00b ship and it seemed to float there for several days until i came along to self-destruct it. Is there a limit on how long they can be there or do they become persistant, all be it, not secure things like sec tainers?

Which reminds me.. sometimes I'll see a ship leave a station and just hang around, eventually warping off somewhere. It's called 'Derelict', and it's not a player.
What's the deal?

Sometimes the game bugs up and gives people a Derelict tag. I don't know the cause, but I think other people do. _______________________________________________________________________

Until someone who is smart scans the system. And find a bunch of free ships.
Its easier to simply leave them in a station. -------------------------- Vist the Jericho Fraction Forums

If the ships are over 20 au's from anything, there is no way they can find them, since u can't warp to scanner.

If they show up on the scanner you can find them, it just takes time. If its a BS then thats time well spent.

Yeah.. until the direction scanner gets "warp to" options.. You can still slowly but surely get to the ships the same way the ships got there in the first place.

or worse yet, you loose that bookmark all your ships are at and you have 3 BBs and a crusier floating around space for all eternity... ------------------------------------------------ Serve the State Join Channel CAINCOM |

Not so long ago I mistakenly deleted a BM to a can full of pirate loot, which was located 20 AU from the nearest warpable object :o
Since anything dumped in space by a player is located between two warpable objects, you can always retrieve it by doing mini warps and setting bookmarks, and when you're close enough (in the hundreds of thousands of kilometers), go manual with a few MWDs and directional scans...
Retrieving my stuff (~35 mil worth of ****) took me about 2 hours.

I would be carful with that - once a shuttle vanished I parked at a safe spot.
Noone could have stolen it, since it was at a BM ~ 5 AU from the next warpable object and I didn't found it with 2 AU scans - even if I left it while it was moving at top speed there was no way it could have made this distance in the 4-5 hours I left it there.

... Don't presume that; someone paranoid can always make a temporary bookmark between two objects, then use it to create the 'real' bookmark between the point in space and a warpable object ;s

And a mentally deranged lunatic could make 2 bookmarks between 4 different objects and then make a miniwarp from one to the next an drop his can there.
How do I know what a deranged lunatic might do? Good question. -Othnark
