Edited by: BaroteToo on 21/12/2006 08:03:38 A thief stole some of my ore tonight, right in front of me. I just spent an hour and 20 minutes refining an argument in this stupid ass format, that allowed me to lose ALL of my work, in one stroke of a left-button. I started out unhappy, I'm FAR GODDAMNED MORE unhappy now.
The thief/parasite ended up turning ME into a theif (in view of the game's rules), when I tried to recover the ore from him that had been stolen--I'm going to use "parasite" as if it's the theif's name here.
What parasite did, was to steal from my can, drop the ore into space, and then transfer the entire contents of my can into the can he just dropped. The "anti-thievery rules" instantly made parasite the owner of what I had worked for 45 minutes to get for myself.
I came back and forth after that with fighting ships and haulers, just trying to recover what was rightfully mine--trying to balance losing a less valuable hauler against a far more valuable battleship should parasite be ganged with someone or with other members of his corp. He finally killed a hauler (with mods that was) worth over 100M.
We chatted afterwards. He was all buddy-buddy, as usual. He was "bored." He didn't usually do this (though his corp's ticker is "POD"), and he knew WAY too much about how the whole thing was SUPPOSED to work for anyone to believe that this was his "first time," as he claimed.
After the theft, he WANTED me to to attack him with drones while I was mining. That would have allowed him to attack me, with impunity. It would have been "self-defense" on his part, which would have let him kill me, in my mining ship, which was worth far more than the hauler he eventually killed--that was his PLAN, all along. Kill one ship, or the other. Or, just make me give up the ore, because of the "rules" of the game. Good rules turned to bad purposes.
I don't think the "anti-thievery" rules were set up to help thieves. But there are some parasites around who think that's exactly what they were for. I'd like to be MUCH more insulting to thieves and parasites, because I consider them to be total wastes of skin and air; but, I don't have the space here.
Once, in Court, contesting a minor charge, I got to see an armed robber make an argument b4 the Judge. Parsite claimed the "assault with intent to commit great bodily harm" charge should be dismissed, because it was only self defense. It seems parasite pulled the gun, told "victim" that he better hand over the cash, or parasite would shoot victim.
Victim, defying ALL logic, was enraged and attacked parasite. Parasite then had no choice but to defend himself by fracturing victim's skull with the butt of the gun. Parasite had actually done victim a favor by not going ahead and shooting victim, as threatened. The Judge wasn't buying any of it, as I wasn't, and as NONE of us should buying it here.
When we drop a can in space, we can't drop another can for 3 minutes. So, there is obviously some program sub-routine that stops this. I propose that another sub-routine needs to be written that is similar to the "no-can-dropping" one. Once you commit theft, you can continue to commit it all you want, indefinitely.
This means you can take all you want out of space and into your cargo, incurring the risk that goes therewith. But you CANNOT drop anything out of cargo while you're in space (but, in this case NOT for 3 min. but, instead) for twice the 15 min. of the "aggression" period, or 30 min. Also, you can't shoot back unless you're being fired on and warp jammed or otherwise prevented from leaving. If you can't shoot and are being fired on, you should go anyway. If there is to be protection from theft, let it not subject us to the loss of our ships. Otherwise, it's a scam, and no protection at all.
