Tomorrow (Saturday) I'm shutting down EVE-Files. We have been pushing the resources too far and the only option is to shut it down.
But before you go scream nooo you son of a biach! It's your own fault, going from movies in the size of like 50MB over a year ago now your movies are 500MB, so blame yourself!
So you just have to do something else, coz there is no way I can keep it online - after all the servers need to be shut down in order to add more hardware.
You thought I would shut it down permanently? Right... sucker! The part about we've been pushing the resources too far is indeed true, at the point of this post there is aprox 8GB free diskspace for your files, hopefully those 8GB will hold the night since more disk will be added tomorrow.
Upgrade list: * More disk * New heatsink for the CPU * Additional heatsinks for the drives * New UPS * OS upgrades/patches (in mind I haven't rebooted the thing since May 27th) * General maintenance
I was supposed to do the upgrade on the 24th (X-Mas here in Sweden) but my girlfriend told me off so I have to do it tomorrow instead.
There will be another maintenance session at a later point as well since I did not receive all expected parts today, so I am still waiting for some things to arrive but I have enough to perform the first phase anyway.
/c

With sponsoring on the connection and a real-life work to pay for new hardware (and a lot of flowers to the miss' for all late nights lol)

While donations are nice (real or in-game) I think that CCP have more important things to do than to push for my services (you all seem to find your ways there by yourself ). But of course I wouldn't say no to CCP's support or gifts.
But as I said before, I don't do this in hope to get anything in return, I just provide a service that is not available but which is needed. My work is done when CCP implement their own hosting linked to a pilots account directly.
Originally by: PirateShampoo I think if we did that i dont think he would actually have to work in rl, and within 2/3 months he would b driving around in a lambo laughin at us.
Noone can quit EVE, and with that in mind I doubt there would be a lambo, I would most likely push that money into even more hardware and faster connections... /c

Have had that on my mind but I don't like the idea of deleting EVE material no matter how hold or un-accessed it is, EVE-Files is keeping history - and that's how I will try to keep it

If i could come with a sugestion: turn it to a torrent site, so ppl can get hosted dribbles of downloads of the files, but, say, needing to host their own super large 1gb movies.
Tried it, torrent wasn't that useful, plus it is nice for everyone to have one place where a lot of things is stored. But yes I've had thoughts of using torrent for the larger files, I might be forced in the future but until then I will do my best to keep it like it is or make it better.

Tbh if you are having an idea to run a similar service like EVE-Files I think you should give it a thought or two before getting into it (based upon 'I wish I could figure out how to set up a server. It seems so easy but I could never get it to work.') as it involves a whole lot more than just setting up a server (hardware, internet-connection, software etc).
After the upgrade it will be around the 1TB class storage (not that much but quite some amount since it's all EVE related).
Originally by: Lucifer Fellblade I saw Chribba in 0.0 once. It made me smile. Chribba ftw, EVEfiles rules.
I am not done with 0.0 just yet...

Update on current progress. Things screwed I got a BSOD when upgrading the OS, much fun, couldn't do jack as it kept starting the setup every time and died shortly after. Managed to solve it and the software upgrade went fine.
New harddrives are in place and the storage shortage is no more (for another few months). UPS connected and running, heatsink - next time perhaps. Patches and such are fine.
I will hold you to wanting it to be online a while longer, I am expected to show up at a dinner party in 15 min and I prolly have at least 1-2 hours left of moving files, defrag, general lazyness - so I'm just gonna leave it doing the defrag and go to my party
Hopefully the defrag is done when I get back home tonight but I figured another few hours is something you all can stand (if not I will accept it as your x-mas present to me - the waiting ).
Anyway have a good evening and I'll be back with an update later tonight.
Sorry for any trouble this 'extended' downtime is causing you and your EVE-addiction

I have an old box laying in Malmo with 10x120Gb drives i used for an ftp server before i moved to Thailand and my work there are upgrading the link from 200 to 400 and then to 1gbit finaly with Song, is there any help you need for hosting stuff etc ?
Ill check how the stuff are on work back home and how happy my bosses are to host stuff they cant make money on...
./Traxman
If you have the possibility to provide a fast link sure that'd uber, if you have a machine, even better I can easily hook up additional servers as mirrors, the major factor is the connection atm since they need to be fast (100MBit+) and flatrate links.

Welcome back. EVE-Files and associated services should now be back online, there may be some delay for the DNS info to refresh but it shouldn't be more than 20-30 minutes.
Please report any errors that you may encounter, thank you for all your nice comments and your patiance during the downtime.
