Edited by: FosterK on 23/12/2006 11:53:42 That has to be the most stupid idea I've ever read concerning this game.
Going by: "why should a clone retain memory not present at its creation", you're suggesting that you don't buy new, higher SP clones, but you just get what you're given when you're podded. So if you're podded and end up with 5m SP, your clone reflects that - anything you learn after that is void, really, but those first 5m SP are safe, stuck and there forever. Completely unfair to newbies, who will never be able to advance from their starting SP as, shock horror, their clones stay forever at 900K SP, now matter how much they train, they'll default back to that when they're podded.
Look at it this way - for the average player, a month equals one million SP.
A player decides to train up for 3 or 4 months, starting at 1M SP. He has 4 or 5M SP by the end of the 3-4 months. He go into PvP. Gets podded. 3-4 months down the drain INSTANTLY. He realises how crap that is, and he quits the game forever.
Now look at it again from the perspective of a player with 20-30M SP. Say their last clone was two months before this was introduced, and they're podded a month after it. That's 3m SP gone.
If a clone was made at x SP, and you gain y SP on top of that before getting podded, all of y is gone. You go back to having x only. And your new clone is made, able to hold x SP. Hence, you will never be able to lose the SP you have earned before the patch.
My point is, with the system you're suggesting, players are never going to advance in the game. It doesn't matter how many SP you gain, if you get podded, you're going to go back to 900K if you're a newbie. All your suggestion does is keep the better PvP'ers and those with higher SP and experience in that position in the game forever.
I could be wrong, but you're either wanting to turn EVE into a society of carebears who live in High-sec permanently, due to the risk of losing everything they've trained since character creation... or... the one I find more probable... you're being challenged by newer players, and losing to them. This annoys you, and the obvious way to stop this happening it to put a cap on new players, so that they cannot possibly become capable of attacking and killing you - because every time they're podded, they go back to 900K.
What kind of crap game would it be if you had to train for 4 or 5 months just to go to one battle, maybe two, before getting podded and having to wait another 4 or 5 months?
Regardless, EVE's death dynamics work fine, don't try to fix what isn't broken.
