Edited by: DayVV4lkEr on 23/12/2006 20:33:27 Is it just me or is this ship nearly impossible to fit ?
I bought myself an astarte and a Nighthawk today and started fitting both.
The Astarte was fitted in 5 minutes but the Nighthawk just seems to be impossible to fit.
This ship is insanly lacking Powergrid. Fitting a full set of Heavy Missile Launcher II plus 1 Medium Nos II means u have used 770 of 890 PG (all skills for fitting maxed except Adv. Weapon Upgrades that is on 4).
And Heavy Missile Launchers are quite easy to fit compared to Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II.
Is that a ganking ship without the correct bonuses for it ?
It might be *****ble as a bait ship for gangs or quite useable for smaller gangs but solo this ship is just useless.
Why is it always caldari that get the mission runner ships ?
What i should mention maybe is that a Nighthawk with an active tank fitted similar like an astarte needs 3 Reactor Control Units II or 2 RCU II and 2 Power Diagnostic II

Because missiles are the best weapon to kill NPCs with, so naturally all the caldari missile boats are good at missions. But thats not the purpose they are designed around. ---------------------

Yes all other races command ships seem very easy to fit. The nighthawk is tougher.
I suggest dropping the nos. I know these days fitting a nos in a spare high is a no brainer, so much so that people cannot believe that just perhaps, they should not?
From here how is it hard to fit? You can fit 3 active hardners, a large sb and a cap injector as well as a dmg ctrl, pdu and 3 ballistic control II's
Thats a gank setup that can tank too (hi caldari!)
Want more variety? Drop the bcu's and fit reactor mods like an RCU / PDU.

well of course your not suppose to fit a nos, its a command ship! Firstly, secondly do people seriously not look at this hsip and go "wow this might actually make a GREAT passive tank" lets see...twice as much shield hps then the cerberus...yet the SAME shield recharge rate. What did you say? The cruiser level gives you 5 percent more resists per level!? Wow...HEY WAIT!! I have an idea!! Lets passive tank it!!!
solo I use this ship for everything from missions to belt hunting. It can passively tank any spawn in belt spawn in the game with EASE. And this is with using three bcu so my damage is nice. As a pvp setup Im tanking 115 dps (not looking at resists just the recharge rate) wow still fitting a siege warfare link module.
I mean come on. Yes a little more powergrid would be nice, but claiming it to be useles???

Well firstly, yes the NH is hard to tank. Passive tanks rarely work in pvp as they require loads of med slots to work. And whilst caldari have that, you cant have the tackling gear aswell as passive tank gear. So Captain - youre wrong there.
With the powergrid needs of the launchers, active tanks are the only way imo, unless you want to sacrifice loads of dps. But welcome to the world of caldari. If we had those extra med slots for our tackling gear, we'd be the only race in eve. Keeps eve balance
But as you said - yes extremely hard to fit compared to other CBC, but also you can have much more varied setups.

After watching a Nighthawk tank 2 heavy damage dealing BCs, a Caracal and an AF dishing out damage to it repeatedly and not getting it below 90% shields, I really don't think it's all that terrible of a ship. ;) ----- CEO, Astrum Contract Services Group

ok difference of opinion? maybe but dont call me wrong. Command ships are gonna get called primary a lot because of the gang bonuses you give so you dont need to worry about tackling or dps, you need to worry about tanking. And if thats ALL that your worried about then passive tanking is rather beautiful since you neglect somsone using nos...but hey maybe i just dont know anything. STOP TRYING TO SOLO PVP!! thats not what eve is about, the devs have made that pretty clear.

While the lack of grid does seem rather extreme, you can fix that with an RCU II or some PDUs.
Personally I use 3 PDUs and 2 BCUs in the lows, and then 6 HML IIs, 3 LSE IIs, and 2 hardeners.
Tanks any lvl 4 mission unless you screw up and drew unholy huge aggros, but once I get some shield recharge rigs for it, even those screwups will mean nothing.
Plus you can always go 1 RCU II and 2 SPRS for even better regen.

It's fairly obvious that you have never pvped before sir.
Only a retard would call a command ship primary, which can tank like 3 BS. Much easier to kill the 3 BS, then kill the command ship...

NOS are not meant for Caldari ships, hence NOS using up more PG then CPU. Logically NOS are mainly meant to be used by Amarrian ships:
1. Because they have the most PG (to my knowledge) 2. Are the only race that has ships that specialize in NOS

I really get fed up with noobs posting in topics they know nothing about.
Command ships arent SUPPOSED TO. They have the ability to. The bonus they have doesnt mke the bonuses all that better. The field command are meant for combat, the fleet are meant for gang bonuses. As such, the fleet have better fitting abilities.
Now stop posting in a thread you know nothing about.
And secondly - captain - you said to not solo pvp. . . . WTF are you on? So, if im flying around flashing red cos im -5, and get attacked, and i meant to ask him to stop cos thats not what Eves about 'apparently'? rofl. Get a clue. Active tanks are the way to go for solo pvp, passive for gang. Go into pvp, and then comment here.

And for the love of God please dont tell me IVE never pvp before. Check my history and hush.
In the end your probably right, your not going to get called unless you get whooped real bad and your last man standing. The point is that you shouldnt worry about NOSSING or DAMAGE as a command ship. You need to put your gang bonus out there and stay alive. Which means tanking and gang boosts more then anything. Take that little blurb you copied and pasted and put it into the whole of what i said before you trash it.

You said a command ship will be called primary in a gang engagement, no one with the slightest ability to pvp would call a CS primary, unless the enemies are fleeing and you are trying to gank the most expensive ship that you can hold (in which case it dies anyway).
Thus, get a clue before posting.

Meanwhile, back on topic, for small gang warfare, I'd say a full rack of heavy launcher 2, a dread guristas large shield booster, 1 em hardener, 1 invuln 2, a DG shield boost amp, and either a sensor booster, 10mn ab or a warp disruptor. For the lows a mix of ballistic controls an power diag 2s, with the last low reserved for a damage control 2 or best named. Sure some of the fittings are expencive but if you're gonna fly around in a 200mil ISK ship, you may aswell fit it out decently.
Stay away from the heavy assault missiles, fury heavy missiles are easy to get away with if you need more punch and they're easier to fit. Plus the range can be used as an advantage.
The problem all caldari ships have to some degree or another is that they're shield tanks, and you end up having to sacrifice a midslot or two if you want to take people on solo. Thankfuly, just like the cerberus, you don't need every medslot dedicated to tanking. ----

Field command are made to be damage first, gang bonus second. Fleet are made with gang bonuses as a first, damage as a second.
You saying command ships aren't suppose to fit gang mods would be like saying a cov-ops shouldn't use a cov-ops cloak.
7 highslots on a Nighthawk, and 6 launcher slots, and 1 turret slot...
Now what makes more sense for that last slot, a rail/tractorbeam/salvager/nos, or a gangmode to boost yourself and your gang? Assuming you're the commander.
Yes, Command ships are suppose to fit gang mods. They wouldn't have the 99% reduction if they weren't suppose to.

I meant their primary function isnt for gang mods. It has one slot for them. Not all 7 of its high slots.
In comparison...you dont eat a trifle just for the cherry on top now, do you? ^^
Its an added extra, not the main buying reason ^^

yeah i agree with you here, especially on this type of command ship. Im seriously considering spending the 12 days to get into the vulture for its extra bonuses. But your right you have to be able to use the nighthawk for more then just its gang bonuses cause it is just one slot. I just dont like the claim of the post that it was useless because of its powergrid limitations.

It's not the main reason for you perhaps. For others it may be.
You can fit more mods with the proper skills. Part of their role is gangmod use. What people buy ships for will vary. Some sick bastards might buy them for uber tanked mining ships, doesn't mean that's what they're intended to be.

Just for your Info, the Vulture can easiely be tanked VERY extrem, fit 5 HAM II and 2 Med NOS II.
But on top of that u can still fit an MWD II and a Scrambler. Now tell me why i should use a Nighthawk ?
If someone wants and has the time too would be nice if u could get a damage comparision between 6 Heavy Missile Launcher II with nighthawk bonuses and 5 HAM II without bonuses.

Are you seriously asking if 6 Heavy Missile launcher with a 25% ROF Bonus and 25% Kin Dmg bonus can out damage 5 HAMs without any bonuses?
WITHOUT BONUSES 5 HAMS - 78.125 DPS 7 HMs - 75 DPS
WITH KIN DMG BONUS 7 HM's - 93.75 DPS
WITH ROF BONUS 7 HM's - 125 DPS
Simple ass calculation (Launchers * Damage Per Missile) / (ROF)
This is assuming base stats of the tech 2 launchers.
I am not now nor ever going to give up more then 45 BASE DPS to make fitting slightly easier. If you want to fly a Vulture, do so in a gang environment where it belongs. If somebody can correct me rationally I would appreciate not being ignorant, but I can't imagine soloing with it.
