Most of the organizations that do not want to admit defeat do so because of a collapse of leadership.
In many cases, the leaders themselves drive their groups on like zombies because they know that their own standing will suffer by an admission of defeat. For some, losing power in the organization is a more important issue than the success of the organization.
In other cases, an organization is left without solid leadership and continues to fight because of the lack of direction. They just simply don't know what else to do The lack of solid leadership has left them without a purpose, so they just continue doing what they've been doing all along.
In all cases, however, there is a misunderstanding of the implications of defeat. Especially in EVE, defeat should just mean the end of Round 1, and the beginning of Round 2. However, many people seem to be unable to see beyond the present.
Sometime it also depends on how the organization had been motivated from the beginning. If the starting mindset is such that the organization is already running perfectly, the leadership is doing its job properly, and operations are being conducted ideally, and then defeat is still imminent, there it's quite natural to expect people to think that there is no future. After all, they were already as good as they could have ever been, and yet it still was not enough. This mindset is very interesting to watch out for. The usual symptoms are the scattered and anonymous attitude that "the only way you could have defeated us was by usage of HAX", which follows from the fallacy of perfection.
An organization, however, that is under no illusions as to how anything can always be improved will always look towards a better future. Leadership that leads based on fact will not have to deal with any sort of "political ramifications" or fallout. An evolving leadership does not stand to lose influence in the aftermath of defeat, as it exhibits a consistent capability to admit its mistakes, learn from them, and improve.
