I'll pay a whole -ú1 for spaceship potato cutters or cake tins. Maybe a fiver for a jelly mold.
But yeh, for limited batch collectables that are of really high quality it's not that unreasonable to premium price them. I've got my rifter model, not fussed. Wouldn't mind some more small ones though. Even if I had the money that thing is massive and the cat would only sit on it all the time.

Wow, we didn't get 1,000 $ jeans, but now can own a 1,800 $ spaceship scale model!
Can't even see a point in this kind of licensing, so I'll conform myself with homemade scale models.

I have seen much higher priced artwork, if I had 2k to drop on it I would pay, as the Nyx was, and to a large extent still is, my favorite ship.
For other high priced art look ay this. https://www.bluethumb.com.au/leonlester/Artwork/Energy-Ecosystem

And ours is to judge whether that is approachable or arrogant.

Not every product need be intended for every person who plays the game. Some have no interest in physical goods at any price point, but that doesn't translate to the idea that there should be no physical goods.
Many IP's can and do produce goods with a wide range of price points, none more "arrogant" than any other.

I went through a numismatic phase when I had some cash to spare so instead of buying loads of different types, saved up and spent -ú500 on a Larissa coin. It's finer than all of the ones listed there (similar to the bottom one), is properly certified and is unlikely to drop in value. I spent a while researching Greek coins and that is one of the more affordable/accessible, plus it is a 2400 year old piece of art. It's tiny in comparison with the Nyx model - but so what? I wasn't paying by weight. I didn't discuss it with anyone because it was my money to spend at the time. Although I showed a friend (who spends -ú500 on handbags, using her hubbies CC) and she sneered, then showed my mum and she thinks it's gorgeous. Doesn't mean I splurge like that all the time on crap, or have a house stuffed full of artwork. But what's the point of working if you don't occasionally spend your money on things that please you? Each to their own v0v
Doesn't bother me that this thing is pricey, and I don't get what the point is in whining about it. If it was an unlimited run, I could understand concerns. I hope some cheaper stuff is released ongoing, but tbf you can get the CE, musterbrand stuff or a poster so it's not like there's nothing else available.
Although if I could commission Ralph to make me an EvE thing... or any player, that'd be cool too. I'd rather buy EvE art from players whose designs are approved by CCP for release - like with the Rixx posters.

I will wait for full official info as well. As a collector of models and such, I have some more expensive large scale displays. Many of which are similar to their limited run listed. I guess the main bit for most people is the maglev system and lighting. How that works, etc. and why it costs so much.
To have comparison for that price... I bought a quite nice vintage motorcycle for that much money or could build a fairly respectable computer, a high detail and large scale RC plane with jet engine, etc.
So for that money, would need to be big and justification of the lev. More likely the cost would be due to high detail casting and such a small run. The marketplace for a large eve Mothership display is quite niche....

While the price is high, I have to consider if its' value will increase over time. A small percent of eve's subscribers will be able to afford it, though with 500 to be in circulation and a potential interested player base of 30,000-50,000 ; It would leave likewise up to 1% of EVE's community available to purchase it.
If that figure is correct, up to 1% of us can afford it. In this case, not me.
If 2500 were to be released at $400, in lower quality, only up to 5% of EVE's players would be able to acquire the model and so on... At some point, the level of interest that the fan-base has for the model would recede under the amount produced and the model by then would be a far lower quality.
If only 500 are going to be made, CCP probably (guessing) is uncomfortable with taking the risk of producing more and that's just the way I see it. |

Just how little were people expecting to pay for a studio-scale replica?
The DeAgostini piecework Millenium Falcon runs to about $1500 and that's going to be based on a much larger market and therefore higher production runs... That's effectively the mass-market option whereas the Nyx is the bespoke end. |

Honest question. there are thousands of pumped up EvE players who want to get their hands on one of these models. What kind of idiot sets a "placeholder price" of $ 2000 and doesn't expect an uproar? Seriously? ( and nobody knew it was a placeholder price! ) |
