Very annoying thing has happened a few times now so I'm gonna go ahead and ask about it even if it is a bit of a noob question.
I have some Breachers and Slashers bravely defending my outer region. My dastardly opponent then decides to play the Ice Ore location in said outer region. This brings the shield on my ships to 0. The ships die right? They get crushed by the roids or something, most annoying bit is that he then warps his carebear mining fleet in and mines the damn roids.
Very powerful location when played right, not sure if it even counts as damage dealt (for Insurance Fraud).
1. Is Ice Ore able to kill ships as it enters play? 2. Does Ice Ores lowering of shield count as damage dealt? 3. If 2=yes then can Insurance Fraud be played before said damage is resolved so I can at least get something out of the situation?

Unfortunately for your situation, your opponent is right on with the rules, and plays Ice Ore rather smartly. As per the rules, if a ship's Shield value ever drops to zero or lower, it dies. I do not believe that this would count as damage since it is only changing a cards normal value, and does not specifically say "damage" in the effect, so Insurance Fraud cannot be used either.
Ice Ore is particular effective against Minmatar decks since their ships tend to be high on the offence but near zilch on the defence. The best thing you can do to counter this is to defend using ships with better Shields or find a way of canceling Ice Ore or its effect when it comes into play, long enough to move your ships around and put something more substantial in there, at least.

Yes, thats the way we've been playing it. It's a very effective thing to do in the early game against a Minmatar deck. Ice Ore only costs 2 isk to play and can put a rather big dent in the early buildup of your opponent.

Cyrano's been beating me to the answering lately, but I thought I'd chime in to remind you to check out the official CCG site, www.eve-ccg.com. We've got a nice little FAQ database over there, as well as a searchable card list and very active forum. The CCG site is also the place where we'll be posting the latest news and player-written articles about Second Genesis. --- Zack Walters EVE: The Second Genesis Organized Play Coordinator CCP Games |

"If a ship receives damage that is equal to or greater than its shield, the ship is destroyed and placed on its ownerĘs scrapheap."
this is all i can find in the rule book about shields and damage. if i read this right a ship with 0 shields still have to take damage to die.
i know a DEV said its diff and i'll rule it that way but he someone can point out where it says if a ship has 0 shields it dies.
