Err, I guess I miss being a noob when these threads looked original even if they weren't.
I guess there's always a muppet giving a reply like this
My 2 cents:
- the feeling of a vast universe you had when flying around, encountering not too many people - roid belts to mine in in which you could actually mine in without running out of roids and having enough ore to build a shuttle - a healthy economy with actual profit margins on normal production lines. It existed, with a hub system maxing out on 150 locals. BRING BACK THE HIGHWAYS ! - Not having a profession for everybody. Face it, we don't need salvaging, hacking whatever. The basic idea behind Eve works but is severely outdated and is not optimal anymore with 32k online. - Server stability and a stable server. It also helps finding a stable server.
I'll be honest. Eve has long lost it's magic after all the rubble they put in, especially in Revelations. We don't need more weight, we need more functionality. The capital ships were the last functional content. I'm pretty sure many people play Eve out of habit or by lack of an alternative. I know I'm only staying in because of the company. -----------------------------------------------

I miss no level 4 missions and complexes (yay for no PvE!).
I miss dual MWDs. I was too young to ever make any use of them in PvP but they were fun none-the-less...
Mostly I just miss the sense of wonder. When not everybody had billions. You could still earn billions but it was really pointless, because the biggest thing you could buy was a battleship. Everyone was on more equal footing.
I also miss the old politics. Things seemed so much clearer then... Although it probably helped I was a newb then. Much clearer than today - CA are the pirates, Xetic are the carebears, FA are the moneybags, etc. No wishy-washy crap or hundreds of different little alliances. ___

to be honest, insurance sucks .. without insurance T2 wouldnt cost so much, battleships would NEVER have been so common, salvaging would be a complete different thing, npcing could have been something totally different ... i blame insurance. I miss the frig mass and agility on the blackbird, multiple ab/mwd and oversized, jumping directly to the station when you jumped into a system you frequented and most of all multiple options for missile types in all launchers. I used to love my cruise caracal. I still have a kessie with heavy missiles in it's standard launchers somwhere. And before I forget, defenders that worked.

* The times where 30 people in a fleet made you feel "omg what a big blob" * Oversized afterburners on frigs, inties and cruisers * Pre-Kali scanprobes * The time where everyone wanted to go into low- and nulsec because the isk was there instead of just being able to fire up another lvl 4 mission and generate more free no-risk isk * The old highways that at least spread out the market a bit better * The Alliance PvP before tech II range ammo was implemented. At least you would be able to do some interceptor stunting and actually tackle people

im already looking for an alternative, same as others, and tbh there are none like eve or anything close to replacing it (a good thing once), if someone does find one let me know.
My own fault like, i dont have the patience anymore for what i consider to be boring elements ive done for the past 3 years like mining and agent missions, their just plain boring for me, leaving me with my chosen profession, the thing i actually want to do fulltime, low sec feared empire rat. With hindsight id not have chosen this path, but i did. Too much restriction on my profession is making the game less enjoyable for me now and a few others, wed all probably bail now if there was a filler-in game, but theres not.
Ah well, keep the skills rolling on, hope 1 day theres a reason to continue my profession, till then im playing stuff id rather not like bf2142 and guildwars.
Eve still rocks, mostly more for the new people, less for the old farts.

Mining Bisk in .4 systems in fields that were so big they covered 2 grids and you had to warp from good roid to good roid (Even the commen was 30m-50m apart). Fields that actually looked like fields not a compact shopping bin.
Running into someone in low sec and not even considering them a threat, actually they were looking for some one to help rat or mine as were you.

Non blob-based warfare No logging No POS No carrier/motherships PvP was not about blobs and EW There were honor in PvP and 1vs1 etc was respected. You couldn't make several hundred millions / day in empire. You couldn¿t make several hundred millions / day by owning one T2 BPO.
Why could it not stay like that?

Edited by: s0cks on 27/12/2006 12:00:29 - No sentry's at gates or stations in 0.4 or under! - Oversized afterburners and missiles on frigates - Being able to PvP in frigates alone! (still possible, but not as easy) - A security status that increased over time - Proper corporations and alliances that had respect and were looked up to - When not every 1mnth old character had a Battleship, and to see one was actually quite exciting/scary - 100million ISK meant you were properly rich - ECM that could be calculated and would work!
On the plus side there are a lot of good new things. But I don't think I've ever looked back and thought the the game was "worse" to play back in the old days. Reasons I've quit in the past were lack of action. That can still be said of today... unless you're a 0.0 *****.

I miss old 0.0 wars. My first war I was in the DSMA, vs FA. Went down to Fountain on my own, in a (v. poorly fitted) Caracal. No MWD, no AB, no instas, no scout, no WCS, nothing. I made it down fine and hooked up with the main DSMA fleet and joined in on guerilla raids on FA stations. Hell of a way for a 1 month old character to get into the game - thinking I was bad-ass in my Caracal, then seeing a DSMA fleet full of Ravens and Apocs all pounding a PCS. Epic.
Now all these newbs have their WTZ and WCS and inertia stabs and cov-ops and they still complain about 0.0. Darn kids!

Things like this:
Within the vast Amarr Empire you can peddle in anything from dull agricultural products to slaves and illegal hi-tech wares. Alternatively, you can plot with the Amarr Emperor or the Heirs behind the scenes. Just make sure you're not accidentally crushed by this behemoth of a state.
The Remanaquie Federation is the exact opposition of the Amarr Empire. Here, you can wheel and deal as you please. Everything is condoned, even encouraged. The only question is, are you extravagant and decadent enough to make it to the top?
The Caldar Empire has only one motto: efficiency. To cut it here you must be willing to follow the rules by the book. But the rewards can be astronomical. Everything the Caldarians do is of the highest quality. Sucker up to them and they'll give you access to the toys of your dreams.
The Minmatar Republic is always on the lookout for talented individuals. This is the dream venue for all you clever and ruthless power players. Just remember that the Minmatars consider their promises the same as rubber: not to be broken, but easily bendable.

Oh, yeah having 2 cruiser sized MWD's strapped to a rifter and making it go a little faster was fun as well. The server stability.... well lets just say it was stable while it ran, the rants about pre-castor the world was good sorry have to wonder if you actualy where around in the early days or just in the last few weeks before castor hit. Other great things where the posibility to see things for the first time (a BS springs to mind, even the Carriers, Freighters and Dreads have seen me undock to do a fly by salute) Figuring out how to do stuff is always cool when you discover something new in the game or find you are now able to do something you have never done before (mining, scanning, ECM, missiles, flying a new ship I love those moments)
Basicaly I miss about EVE pretty much nothing, all is still there in a larger scale easier access kind of way (for the old characters) having recently started a alt from a completely new race I now get to go thru all the cool stuff again but without the frustrating moments of finding out that your plan to take over the universe doesn't work because you forgot about or didn't know that... Now I know all I need to do is join BoB and kiss a DEV's butt for a few months and hey presto 5 extra slots of my chooice and all the powergrid and CPU I can eat

Lol I for one am still playing this game for the sheer enjoyment not out of habit or by lack of an alternative. I also play cause CCP rocks and everything they added in Revelations makes it, Imho even better.

I quit two other MMORPG (Asheron's Call and Dark Age of Camelot) to play the BETA of Eve.. After playing Eve, the others just had no more appeal.
- I miss Ark in .4 - I miss selling Rifters for 500K - I miss multi-MWD most of all, I think. - I miss the ablity to cancel warp mid-warp, which was very useful. - I miss the option of lighting ab/mwd while still coming out of warp, ensuring you never slow below top speed. (not as useful now with warp to 0) - I miss uber-tracking arties, pwnage torps, kessies of doom. - I miss flying a cruiser when a cruiser was the best ship to be in. - I miss running m0o blockades in lowsec. I miss Ywev and zZap. - I miss stackingstackingstackingstacking mods. - I miss 75% hardeners. (was it 75%? That was a long time ago) - I don't miss old non-chance EW.. way overpowered. I do miss pre-Kali EW though... 3 points on a racial is a bit low when some ships have over 30 strength..
- I wouldn't mind lagless fleet battles.
- I wouldn't miss blob wars. - I wouldn't miss node crashes because of blob wars. - I wouldn't miss POS warfare, which causes blob wars. - I wouldn't miss level 4 agent missions in high sec.

I'd just like to point out the irony of saying you play EVE for "lack of a better alternative". If there is no better alternative, then you're bemoaning the fact that EVE is the best game out. Obviously I'm still a young character but this game is freeform.. that's why people love it. So if you're that bored why don't you gang together and do something new.. maybe try to go civilize the new regions for example.

The unknown. Playing EvE before I read the numbers and chatted to some of the old pro's. A lot of the fun was the crazy setups (that I was too noobish to know wouldn't work).
The fact that even with less people you would get more decent PvP. No-one was kill board obsessed so people in even the biggest alliance would be willing to risk their ship without an OMGBLOB supporting them one system over. ________________ What you do is you store up the rage, let it fester while you gain strength, then use it to gank those weaker than you... and so the circle of life is complete |
