Hello,
I might have opened this thread to a wrong section but I think that it has to do with skills so i opened it here.
I am currently doing exploration using a t1 fitted Heron. No implants or rigs (for exploration/hacking).
Sometimes when I approach a relic or data container I see a message saying: this container is too complex for you to gather anything of value. Usually I can hack the container but when I loot it, it does only give low loot (est price below 1M). Now I am thinking that if this message didn't popped it would give me more loot. Is this correct? So if the message shows my loot will be lower then what is should be. Because my friends who are doing it can usually get more loot then I get with almost the same SP in scanning/hacking.
Is this true? Would getting rigs or implants give me an advantage of loot?
My hacking is 4 and archeology is almost 4 (training 12h left).
Thanks

IIRC, that message pops up when you fail a hacking attempt. It does lower/remove some of the loot from the can. Make sure you aren't orbiting out of range while hacking, as that counts as a failure.
Also, take your time learning how the minigame works while you are in the (relative) safety of Hi-sec. Once you know what each powerup & defense does it becomes much easier. Each site (data & relic) has 3 different types of cans, easy medium & hard. They always have the same names for each difficulty. If you DO happen to be in low/null, the amount of "hard" cans is increased, and higher skills will help with that by giving you more attack & life in the minigame.
Hope that helps somehow, best of luck to you in future explorations! |

Ah thanks, I didn't know that it was removing loot if you failed it. Really thanks to give me a heads up for that. I mostly fail it once and second time I get it good. So I know the minigame and I have loot maybe around 400M in this month, so I did a lot.

I might be wrong, but I am fairly sure that loot doesn't get removed for failing to hack... Now if you fail twice in a row, the can blows up and you get nothing (you don't get hurt outside of ghost sites though, so wont lose your ship). But yeah, loot should stay the same amount.
More or less random number generator on what the loot is. If your friends are in low or null (or wh) sec, then they'll get better loot compared to high sec. Or they might just be hacking faster vOv |

Thanks again for replying, well I am in a WH with these skills and I do well ( in my opinion ), but I never get the same loots as they get ( you keep staying greedy tho xD).
They are also doing this in a WH, but I think they got a better class WH then I got. I think I got it I should just risk it and go in a C5 or C6 WH when I find it.
Thanks again for everyone. |

Try using a cargo scanner on the can before hacking it, will let you know exactly what's in the can before you even touch it. The message you're referring to only displays when you fail a hack and after 1000+ cans successfully hacked in my Eve career I can assure you loot does not change or some is removed. I would also highly suggest if you plan on making exploration a serious activity to train up skills for T2 gear. Hacking and Archeology to V will be almost mandatory for null sec cans, albeit a long train for both I know but trust me when I say having them are a godsend on some cans.
Good luck out there. Watch local, filter dscan for probes and ships, get to know local habits etc etc and you'll do just fine out here.

Are you staying in hacking range? The hack fails if you are getting out of the range of the module. |
