Again I am sorry for offending you guys. I guess this is just a game and at times it seem to be so much more. I try to understand the view point of many and I guess seeing Sean's mom ask for answer led me to a shallow place and a short sighted approach to using these forums.
As the OP I would ask that this post be locked and taken down
So, I'd like to add something here, even though this thread is locked. The reason for me doing this is I've had a few people contact me about this thread, and the OP calls me out directly for some reason.
Given that the thread calls me out directly, I'll offer a response.
Please bear in mind that this is my personal opinion, rather than my professional take on things.
More than three years later many people in our community and a hell of a lot of people here at CCP miss Vile Rat terribly, myself included, and the community really is still hurting over what happened.
When a community loses a wingman, a content creator, a fantastic leader, a candid and skilled diplomat, and moreover a family man, friend and an all around lovely guy, this will always be the case. The EVE Community has lost more than a few players over the years, some of them high profile, and some of them more reserved and out of the public light. I've lost a couple of very close friends myself.
Loss has touched everyone in EVE, be that via natural passing, death in service, or other reasoning.
The community is aware that there's a search for truth around what happened, and people should of course be held accountable, but you're not going to find any of those answers on the EVE Online forums, and you certainly should not discuss politics here.
I have no problem with anyone posting a memorial thread on the forums for a fallen wingman, and our fantastic volunteers will make sure that it's moderated appropriately, but please stop posting political stuff, along with stuff like "sorry falcon you can ban my account", because all you're doing is pushing a political agenda and trying to draw attention to yourself, in a place that politics is not allowed to be discussed.
VR is missed by his wingmen every day in EVE, there's no doubt about that. He's missed as a player of amazing character, a skilled diplomat, a fantastic and inspirational leader and a rock solid content creator that served his alliance with the utmost of dedication.
That's how he'll be remembered in EVE, as one of the most skilled, dedicated and respected pilots to ever grace New Eden.
The negative reaction to this thread has nothing to do with EVE being "just a game". The negative reaction to this thread came from people for exactly the opposite reason, it's MORE than a game to every one of us, yourself included.
This also has nothing to do with being "old school". Hell, I can remember the days long before DNS was even a thing.
What I can assure you of though, is that the reaction to your post has everything to do with having the correct sense of respect and decorum for the memory of one of the most widely respected and loved players in the history of EVE.
Stop posting political stuff. Stop posting about warnings and bans.
Cheers,
- F
