The festive period is almost over and I would imagine that the devs will be returning to their seats en-masse soon enough to pick up the baton from last year. The first thing I do on logging into the forums is to check for Dev Blogs, none of late (they have holidays in CCP world??) so I'm assuming there are no major show stoppers.
With that in mind, I wonder how Revelations has actually officially bedded in.
Have their been any data trawls, anyone looking at comparisons based on fact, not just the players moaning on the forums? Did it go better than expected, or was it just another patch (albeit a hugely anticipated one).
I'm not talking so much about the bugs, they happen after ever major patch and I laugh at the "I quit" posts that come up every time. I'm not talking so much about the features, they're always up for discussion though so I wonder how the majority of players have found things like the gang system (I like it, not had any problems) and the new ships (balance/usefullness being a subjective matter)
I'm mainly wondering about lag and stability and load balancing and the like.
I have had issues just of late and on talking to corp mates, found out that there was much I could have done (and have since done) to make my client run better but all that while I was *****ing about lag and quietly cursing CCP and just blaming Revelations. How many others have been doing the same?
In general have CCP made the game more stable, less client crashes? faster fps? bigger fleet battles possible?
What are your thoughts?
I still don't like jump queues. I still think server load balancing is borked, (giving up after 3 minutes to jump into a system I know is empty, loooong session changes 4tl)

It seems somewhat better than before Christmas but needs a bit more work especially if subscriber numbers continue to rise. It also looks like Invention needs to be tweaked a bit more. Overall I'd rate this as one of the smoothest and best implemented updates. We just have to see where CCP are going with part two now. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

great expansion thus far. Added a lot more depth to PvP and with the introduction of the tier 2 BC's CCP has definitely levelled the PvP playing field making it easier for everyone to participate in it. The addition of rigs also holds a lot of promise, although currently it is still too cost prohibitive to really be widespread
Haven't done any of the exploration or salvaging stuff, but from what I've heard quite a few people are partaking in it and finding a new way of enjoying Eve. So definitely a great expansion thus far.
Dare I say lag has also improved, although just a tad.

The gang system generally is not liked because it is mostly percieved as cheap and hard to use. Juggling command positions around is a pain, especially in combat situations. The gang and broadcast system docked below the overview is not well liked. It lags quite good. You better don't try to use drones if you want to see anything in the overview.
Revelations revealed that the timeframe for Kali is way out of any planned shape.
Factional warfare has been explained - or one possible implementeation for the next first step has been explained - on gamespy. You join an NPC corp. That NPC corp will be at war with anouther NPC corp.
The options to stabilize and improve the client speed are mostly well over 3 years old and often enough can be traced back to beta.
Yes, ccp as an Icelandic company, is mostly on winter holiday atm, with schools and university closed down along with many other companies. Devs included.
The current mostly lagfree situation comes from the very point of holidays. There's no need for full logging and debugging mode on the server.
The patch went kinda smooth. The patchpatch and the patch patch patch cured some issues. The patch patch patch patch has been stopped.
Vivox is still missing. --*=*=*--
The cause for this is not yet known, but we do have a possible fix in testing. by Sharkbait | 2006.09.20 |

t2 productions went on while the consumers were digging in... a few prices dropped ^^ - example: cap recharger II now for ~16-17mil
anyway: tiny details have been accepted/adapted to mostly well (standings in chat-userlists,AC rof/dmg - basically all weapon tweaks,warp-to-0, "stretched defenses", ECM) while the (very) big additions lost their attraction after a closer look (invention, combat boosters, etc...)

I suspect I'm one of few that actually likes the new gang system.
The only problem I have with it, is that it's always attached to the bottom of the Overview. Very problematic for those with little screen space.
I'd be a happy camper if I could tear it off to wherever I needed it. Actually, a whole Overview revamp would be welcome. _______

The new ships are nice, I like the hp boost, I love the BC agility boost, I love the ECM nerf most of all. Problems remain and the new regions are a wild card, it will be months before we can gauge the economic impacts. I don't really care about the gang changes, wrecks are kind of meh, and Invention seems so pre-nerfed I doubt it will be important for months. Although friends have made hundreds of millions from it already.

Pretty much crap.
2 good things, but hey took rather little effort for the devs to make. -WARP TP ZERO -NEW BCs(they fill an important niche)
3 modest successes -NEW FLEET STRUCTURE -NEW BATTLE SHIPS(pretty much like the old battleships) -CONTRACTS
Everying else is pretty much a flop but of varying degrees. -INVENTION in a total bust -EXPLORATION is almsot a total bust -RIGS were a joke at first and seem to be coming around, but its early -GAS CLOUD MINING is a bust -BOOSTERS are a bust
Basically all the stuff that mattered from the patch and took any serious development effort is joke except the new contract system. Its nice but I dont play the game primarily for trading.
Wherever you went - here you are.

lag and system hangups and ctds are on the rise, jita doesnt cope. Um lots of UI bugs and errors.
Some good things gang system suxor as does invention
removing tech2 protections or boosting factional ship spawns to give players some nice named stuff and lower prices
exploration still takes to long the drops are reasonable some are bugged

I hate to say this but. . .
Pretty much crap.

1 modest successes -NEW BATTLE SHIPS(pretty much like the old battleships)
Everying else is pretty much a flop but of varying degrees. -NEW FLEET STRUCTURE (hell the interface needs a complete redo) -CONTRACTS (see all the "why did you allow for this blatantl obvious scam to be easy to do threads on contracts) -INVENTION in a total bust(except for the fact that the Developers basicaly knew this, told their corp and buds not to participate, and the relaunce the T2 loto with them and their buds R&D points "un inventioned") -EXPLORATION is almsot a total bust(Except for the fact that the Developers got to play the rest of us for suckers on that too, sinking ISK into a system that had almost nothing to scan, and if you find something the payout for the high casualty rates and time invested are far worse than you could have gotten ratting with no loss)
-RIGS were a joke at first and seem to be coming around, but its early(this one I suspect they wanted to work right the first time considering how quickly they fixed it!)
-GAS CLOUD MINING BOOSTERS is not just a bust, but they are so worthless that you have to wonder why they even bothered. . . Oh RIGHT! they play the game too! they knew it was a bust to start with!
Lets face it, its a CCPvP game. . . And I would not have it any other way! ---------------------------------------

I agree on that one. The gang system itself isn't the problem and nor is the overview, (it wasn't a Revelations featureand I like it) but the implentation of the fleet control system into the overview is a real pain in some situations. I think if it could be tabbed with the general over view somehow then you could use the space for which ever you needed to at the moment. Also that bit with the "need armour...etc" should be able to be moved completely if it can't be collapsed.

I disagree with that statement although it was softened with the 'almost' tag. I have a former corp mate who tells me he's found all sorts of stuff including jaspet fields in .7 (for miners), Hidden complexes and the like for the NPCers. He did say that some of them disappear before he's had time to fully take advantage of his finds but the stuff is out there, just needs a bit of work to find it.
I do wonder what happened to vivox, although TS is just fine so it was always going to be a curiosity at first.
