This still's one of those ideas that look fantastic at midnight when you're really drunk.
Each of my accounts has 3 main chars. Each of them got a fair share of training so they can do what they are alive for. Each ofthem has a separate history and all have their own way to see the world around them.
You know, this is the part where roleplay might come into the game for some players, while others just use them for metagaming in form of scammers, alt-scouting and suiciding.
Okay, one of the chars is a throwaway one for fooling around with the char generation system ...
If you know a way to get rid of metagaming without removing the ability to play different roles, post it. --*=*=*--
The cause for this is not yet known, but we do have a possible fix in testing. by Sharkbait | 2006.09.20 |

Oh, so having alts on the forums is baaaad, but having an in-game corp of PvP chars who are funded by their noob-corp alts is fine?
(They wardec anyone, and have tons of targets in Empire, but at the same time their own industrials and missionsers are safe. Yeah, THOSE people could grow some balls)
In other words, I couldn't give a sh** about this forum "issue". ------- Daar

agreed. You want to stop alts on the forums, well the stop them in Eve as well. And if you don't like that idea you are a huge hypocrite.
Not that I want alts to stop in either, frankly I don't care.

what can someoen have agaisnt otehrs posting with their alts? Only thing you could want to do with the real name is go grief or anoy him somehow. That is lame. Keep forum and game separated. I think that you hsould have a login that is NOT the game character in fact. If brute force doesn't solve your problem.. then you are not using enough!! |

So instead of 30k people online, we will be back to 8k?
Eve is designed to require about 4 accounts, everything above that is optional. Most people can easily run 3-4 accounts and have enough time to troll the forums. If everybody had 2 good computers at home, running 8 accounts at the same time would be very doable ... this should tell you something about eve.
A one character one account RPG would be great, but that would not be eve. Eve is not about risk versus reward or consequences for your actions, eve is about alts and afk-ing. The devs want chance -based systems like probing and exploration, and insanely low slot limits like lab slots, factory slots, contract slots etc... Hauling that is best done with 3 freighters slowly traveling through space while you eat dinner. Welcome to eve.

Would solve 50% of eve's problems. Multiple accounts cause lots of problems too but meh, at least they pay CCP for doing it.
Gods i HATE alts. Both on the forums and in game.

This is where posting with an alt brings you. Pure utter pile of crap if i ever saw one. It doesn't require that, but if you think you need to have 4 accounts to 'pwn' at a game then i feel sorry for you. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Originally by: Necronomicon Why CCP dont just make you choose a single char from your 3 and that is it, done, dusted, that is your forum account, never to be changed. At least then ppl who lack the balls/spine/cahoonas to post with their main will have to pay CCP for an extra account to troll/flame with.
You ban NPC corp posting in Corp and Alliance, then allow blatant alt made player corps to invade instead. End this insanity, one character per account may post. You wanna troll and flame with immunity? That will be an extra 7 pounds a month Sir ;)
Well there is a thing about multiple account holders. I have two accounts. Two characters. But can you imagine trying to figure out who owns 21 characters?

1. Im no alt. Unless your definition of alt is "no sec status and in NPC corp". Obviously i have plenty of accounts so the term doesnt mean much anyway. 2. you dont "need" to have 4 accounts. Neither do you "need" to grind ISK, or fly anything besides t1 frigates. Some people even get HACs for free...
However, its undisputable fact that 4 accounts > 3 accounts >> 2 accounts >>> 1 account. With the slow pace of the game, you can comfortably pvp with 2 accounts. You can have a third for scouting (pretty safe to safespot and cloak even in 0.0) and a 4th for cynos. And there is plenty of room to expand. Network of scouting alts / cyno alts, gang mods etc..
And thats just ship pvp, in pve or the industrial side of the game, you cannot have too many accounts.
Its not me who designed it this way, neither did i say anything about wether i like it. But if you think that you stand a chance with just one account and one character, you are kidding yourself. Of course, i am not a high-ranking officer of an alliance, so maybe one could skip all those hauling and cyno alts and let the slaves do that.

3 accounts full of mains is fine, he would just have to pick 1 out of each account to be political/flamebait/trolltastic with on the forums ;)
I have 3 accounts only 1 char per account is in a corp other than one I own. If I have something to say and I dont feel it affects my corp, I will say it, if I step out of line, Eddz will kick my arse; if I don't think it is worth it, I keep my mouth shut.
Claiming alt posting is wrong by stating "I want to flex my e-peen about mining veld in Venal, but dont want to show up my corp/alliance as being a big bunch of roid chewing pansies" is not really a valid argument.
Carlsberg dont make Eve Pilots, but if they did, i wouldnt be one of them.

Something iv'e wanted to bring up for the last few months.
This thread gives me that opportunity.
Iv'e noticed a disturbing trend lately, mainly what would seem to be alt's... are derailing threads with such absurd postings, usually way over the top 'for' opinions on the more controversial issues we have here.
The more i see it happening, the more i think there's some kind of collective effort behind it. It certainly annoys me.... because i see it happen time again after iv'e writen a constructive post.. which ofcourse gets flat ignored because all people do is jump on the absurd.
Me... while i don't like to call scapegoats... i certainly don't discriminate against those that wish and choose to play in npc corps...
This ones up for open debate.

*not* because I'm scared someone on the forum will track me down and fight me because of my opinion,, but because my opinions etc. dont represent my corp, and could also give away details about my corp.
For instance, someone wants to rant and rave "blah blah you know nothing about 0.0 because you havent posted anything about it"
Counter? I rat and mine in venal. Done. Now, *who* do i do it for? that's the important part i wont reveal. I could be Toxin, D2, MM, anybody. Not gonna put my corpies at risk like that.
Do i post in alliance and corp? Nope. My allegiances have the appropriate voice.

Unless you are posting using your real name and where you live, then you are using an alt to hide behind.
If you are geting so upset over a game forum, then maybe you need to take a break.

I believe the OP is referring to the character on the Alliance/Corp forum with a name like "This Alt" in a corp called "was created to bypass the forum rules" or something similar.
People are using the *letter* of the law/rules to defeat the spirit of the law/rule.
THAT is what ruins it for everyone. ----------

Edited by: Doppler Shift on 03/01/2007 17:47:24 Edited by: Doppler Shift on 03/01/2007 17:46:22 Frankly, I don't see the problem. Only when posting "facts" - as in real game incidents - do I find that there is a reason for people to post them with the actual character that "experienced" them. And then only for reasons of credibility.
"Epidemic proportions" you say? "Epidemic" denotes something that is negative in nature. I disagree. I think that "mission running" and "pvp" and "playing of games" have all reached "epidemic proportions". Not to say "drinking of water", "eating" and "sleeping".
Or, to put it simpler, why not? Who you are doesn't matter anyway. There are the in-game channels for that anyway...
