Parallax has been successfully deployed on November 3 during a slightly longer downtime.
Parallax delivers the much anticipated "Brain in a Box" performance improvement, as well as further fine tuning on sovereignty, jump fatigue reductions, a new opt-in probe scanning map, new ship skins and many more small changes.
The full details of all changes and improvements are available in the Parallax patch notes.
Please post general feedback and discussions in this thread.
Report issues with the release on the PC in the Parallax issues thread. For Mac users, there is, as always, a thread on the Macintosh forums for discussion of this release here.

The new scanning interface should now be enabled. Check your ESC menus under "General Settings" - you should now see a box called "Try The New Probe And Directional Scanners".

Yana Shakti wrote:Thanks CCP. You guys put out a hell of a game. Its current state is impressive and your plans for the future even more so.
That said, the new d-scan needs a fair bit of work.
Please remember that the d-scan is not a work of art. It's one of the most important combat tools in the game. A pvp player lives or dies by their dscan since it's the main source of real-time situational awareness:
* Did that Enyo just warp in together with that Merlin? There was no fight? Why not? Maybe they're together... * Where is that Sabre now? At the gate? Nope. At a nearby pounce? Found him. * Who's within 5AU of me? Within 1AU? * Where's that Venture? Nope not dead ahead. So scan as I warp.... ok Belt 4. Bouncing.
The d-scan needs to be hair-trigger responsive and to offer real-time rolling intel. Your new version sure is pretty. But it doesn't take into account the cognitive dimension of the HUD tool. It doesn't swing around in space nearly fast enough. And it doesn't let the player change course and activate ship modules simultaneously as they gather intel. Or so it seems to me.
Please make sure to keep letting us use the old version while you bring the new one up to scratch.
Peace, love and autocannons.
I'm not sure I follow. The Directional Scanner hasn't changed mechanically at all. It moves in space at the same speed as your camera. Please provide some examples of it not working as you used to? Could this just be a feel thing?

Jack Hayson wrote:A few remarks about the new probe thingy:
- Hotkey for the scan button only works when focused on the probe scanner window.
Makes it kinda useless while scanning because you are focused on the map when moving the probes around. You'd have to click on the probe scanner window and THEN the hotkey works, but at that point you might as well just click the analyze button.
- you can't resize the probe range by dragging the edge of the spheres when you are zoomed in to far. You have to zoom out until you see the entire scan area.
- can't drag probes around properly because the mouse-over popup of the probes keeps getting in the way
Other than that it seems to work.
For point 1 - noted, will take this back to the team. Point 2 - I believe this is a defect and have reported it as such. Point 3 - I recommend you remove Probes from your "Marker" list at the top left of the map.

3/ please can all remaining cosmic sigs remain showing in probe scanner and space after one has been fully scanned (having to ctrl A now to see them again). This is retrograde.
4/ Having to click twice to launch my current formation of probes, this is retrograde too.
5/ The separate screen/solar system map is impossible, you have to chose between seeing all your windows open or having a max map screen . if you do that you can not see; ds, local overview, chat and modules in view. Its been 1/2 hour its driving me crazy
Thank you.
Sul.
Thanks for the feedback!
1 - Will take it back to the team if there is enough interest in it 2 - Have requested this 3 - As in, have the list default to not holding your selection after you scan? This was a bug that we fixed in the old system. Will see if this becomes popular as a point as it's an interesting situation 4 - This is a custom, saved formation, yes? 5 - Would I be correct in saying that your issue is in fact that the map hides the HUD when in fullscreen mode?

Lamajagarn McMyra wrote:Love the look of the new d-scan and probe map, functionality is not to shabby either. There are some things i would like to see improved before willingly swapping over full time tho.
Ability to filter out cosmic signatures etc, tried combat probing for ships but still had cosmic signatures in scan window after deselecting them from filter list.
Moving probes around is sometimes hindered by planets etc causing pop up menu when "probe center" overlaps with planet.
Changing size of probes, feels a bit harder than in old map using the way of just draging in the edges.
The possibility to click a celestial in map and have camera turn there is great, if it would also be able to center on anomalies it would be even more useful. Would also be nice if this function was available in full screen map (maybe it is and i just failed).
Thanks for the feedback! I can't reproduce the signature filter issue - are you manually ignoring the signatures, or are you using the filter list? Did you create your own custom filters at all?
When you say "pop up menu", do you mean the tooltip allowing you to select the planet?
Changing probe size has a few new tricks to it for sure, but might I suggest jumping into the Shortcuts > Combat settings and binding the Decrease / Increase Probe Scan Range commands that we put in? You can of course continue to use the manual resize, or the keyalter resize, but I find the keyboard shortcut to be the most efficient myself.
As to the anomaly centering, we are going to wait and see if a lot of others request this before making any decision one way or the other.

Carrion Crow wrote:Initial D-Scan feedback:
1. Why change the location of the scan button?
Having the call to action button to the top left ( instead of the right ) is unusual - we expect it to be on the right.
2. New scan button has an animation - this is unnecessary and makes it feel slow.
We're used to hammering constantly on D-scan - this makes it feel super clunky.
3. Like the filters
Initial probing window feedback:
1. Can we go back to solid background colors?
The underline instead of the block color makes it much harder work to see what the actual anom/sig it is.
More scanning practice to do.
"Hammering constantly on D-scan" - you might enjoy the keyboard shortcut called "Refresh Directional Scan" that we put into the Combat Shortcuts menu :)

Durzo Flint wrote:There really, really, needs to be an option to turn off the "cosmic signature" tool tips when mousing over one, it steals your cursor and makes moving your probes very difficult. After about 5 seconds of using the probe scanner, everyone's gonna figure out that all the red dots are cosmic signatures. Once we move our probes over a cosmic signature, the red dot steals the control of your mouse cursor and you can no longer adjust your probes using the cube in the middle.
Also, why was the crosshair cursor removed from the probe scanner? It was better than a pointer in my opinion.
Also, can an option be made to use just one of the new scanners? A few of my corp members like the new d-scan, but not the probe scan.... but you can't use one without the other.
Would a customisable delay on the tooltips serve equally well here?
Right now there is no option to use one new scanner and not the other. The old systems will be removed in an upcoming release, so we will not be adding in further opt-in/opt-out options relating to the new system at this time.

Easily the single best quality-of-life improvement I've ever personally experienced in the game; mind you I live in wormholes and scan more than anything else I do so perhaps this really hits home for me more than some. Absolutely awesome job.
There seem to be minor display bugs here and there which I'll assume we can report and will get fixed up over the coming days (for me, it's mostly the probes disappearing on the scanning map...however just hitting alt to resize, without resizing...just hitting the button, seems to fix it for the moment).
I'm not sure what the other posters are referring to - the DScan hotkey works fine for me regardless of where the focus is for what it's worth. In fact, it sometimes screws with me if the focus is on the DScan window as pushing the hotkey will invoke a search on the pull-down list of presets rather than do the dscan :)
Bang up job. Will be playing and scanning all day just to revel in the glory of what I'm seeing here. I for one welcome our new scanning window overlords. o7

Thanks. Please do keep those bug reports coming - feel free to mention my name in the title if they relate to probe scanning and directional scanning, and the new solar system map. We know about the oft-disappearing picker - most annoying... The other posters are referring to the Analyze button in the Probe Scanner rather than D-scan, which currently doesn't function if the Probe Scanner window isn't active..

We haven't changed anything mechanically in that regard. Thanks for your reply! To answer your question: You had to select All in the drop list in the filter field and it refreshed the Windows. That action was suggested to be able to see the "new" ghost site at the time it was introduced. Keep the good work!
I used to hit "show anomalies" twice myself :) Just double tapping any number 1-5 with the window active should theoretically do this (applies and then removes a quick filter) with the new system, but it's not something I've specifically tried out at this time. Be sure to let us know if there is a degradation in functionality here (though if there is I'll likely find it in my wormhole tonight! :D)

Ah, interesting...I didn't even notice this. I suspect it's because the process I use while scanning is accidentally always leaving focus on that window so it seemed fine :) Also love the hotkeys for the filters in the Probe Scanner window, absolutely love the toggle to flip between camera orientation and free-move with the dscan display (took me a minute to get my head around what was going on but holy crap once it clicked I was stunned) and the list goes on... I'm sure some of the things being raised in this thread will improve it even more but for the moment, rose coloured glasses and all that --- it's such a dramatic improvement over what we had before I'll be willing to put up with much inconvenience in the meantime. Be aware though that one bit of fallout from this change is that as fast as I was at finding someone at a safe in space by manually range-finding, we can now do it with blinding efficiency. I welcome this as the whole "finding people" thing is one of the things I really enjoy in the game, but it is going to be much faster than it was previously to get those combat probes with small radius on someone in a heartbeat. Lookng forward to the resulting mayhem :) ~N
Fair few things are "hidden", and will all be explained in our dev blog going out tomorrow. Will be keeping an eye on the d-scan feedback in terms of how fast it feels.

Heading out soon. Just wanted to post the current list of confirmed issues for Probe Scanning, Solar System Map, Directional Scanner and Beta Map from today's release.
Probe Scanner window background doesn't obey transparency and pinning coloring
D-scan visualisation is not toggleable (workaround: Close D-scan window)
Probe Scanner Window becomes active after each session change when stacked
Signature List in Probe Scanning Window snaps to top after each scan
Probe Scanner width settings are not retained
Probe control box does not always display to users (Workaround, press Shift)
Probe Scanner filter hotkeys react negatively with Save Location (Workaround, don't use numbers in BM names)
Signatures in map no longer appear after one has been selected
Now takes 2 clicks to launch Custom Formation
Beta Map appears all white when used when docked for some users (Workaround: Undock, or use old map)
Solar System Map in full screen mode covers up HUD
Keyboard shortcut for Dscan refresh works only when dscan window is not active if bound to a letter
Don't panic if you've given feedback and it isn't on this list. Some issues we want to wait with and see if a lot of people react similarly or differently before deciding on a course of action. Also note that just because a defect has been raised, doesn't mean it will get fixed in the way you imagined. Thanks so much for all the feedback and bug reports today - more tomorrow!

The new probe scanner looks awesome in principle, however I have a major problem with it.
When your cube that represents all drones lands behind an icon for a moon, belt or anything else (considering I already turned displaying probes off), I cannot click and drag to move my probes AT ALL when trying to drag around the cube.
I had situations in Systems where all 4 arrows AND the cube were covered by icons, which made the probes unmovable.
it would be awesome if the icons and the popups that show up were not layered OVER the cube and arrows that move your probes, otherwise using the new probing system seems to be quite problematic!
You could try toning your tooltip sensitivity down a little. That's what I have done and it works like a charm, with no real impact to the remainder of my functionality in the game yet. We are going to take a second pass at layering, but I strongly recommend trying this out nontheless.

Changing the intervals in settings helps a little bit with the best performance on interval 1 and the worst on 4 and immediate. - Unless i'm missing something, why are you now separating the scanning window from the system window, like the old map? The issues we have with the new map aren't with the concept, just the implementation. The map is cluttered, the icons stack and scanning feels more clunky than it used to with the old map. Some fine tuning and detail was needed, not an entirely separate map. This has fixed none of the previous issues.

- Why can't the scan UI's scale in transparency? That's ******* annoying.
+- The Dscan visualization is a nice thought but largely unnecessary for anyone that knows how Dscan works.
+ Thank you for implementing a drop-down list for probes. I don't care about seeing them, never have. This saves precious UI space.
+ Scanning filters are better implemented than they were.
+ Everything listed in scan results is looking much slicker.
At first glance, a few nice features. Mostly, you're fixing things that weren't broken.
PLEASE bring back the single map
1. Please deselect "Align Directional Scan to Camera" (3rd option in the top left of the solar system map). 2. Feedback overwhelmingly dictated that the windows should be separate. There are a lot of filters to reduce clutter in the top left hand corner of the solar system map. 3. This is an issue we have rasied. 4. Issue that was fixed in today's deployment

Forgot to carry good fonctionalities to the next version? - I can no longer refresh my probe scanner screen. What's the refresh rate of the probe scanner? Will any new object appear immediatly on my probe scanner?
That last question is a crucial survival thing in WH.
Keep up the the good work.
Thanks
Having the last selected formation be autoselected is definitely something we overlooked from what I can see. Will raise a defect on it. How were you refreshing the old screen? We haven't changed anything mechanically in that regard. you used to be able to tick and un tick anomalies to manually refresh probe window to show new Sigs. Maybe we can actually add a button to refresh probe window? This is important as when warping around a system the probe window does not automatically update distances from you to anoms or sigs. This comes into play while hunting from dscan to know what sigs and anoms are in D-scan range.
Yup that's what I did too :) Refresh button is an interesting notion, but a guaranteed, smart refresh would be better. Will discuss with CCP Colgate. I suggest using the tactical overlay to let you know what sigs and anoms are in D-scan range, btw. It shows in the Solar System map.

Copper Rei wrote:I heard nothing but hate toward the new scanning options and the beta map. It appears that CCP is trying to force out the old and make us use the new map with all it's fancy icons and labels. I hate it. I know of no pilot who likes it better than the old map. Please stop trying to fix what was not broken. You can only break it.
Today I log in to find my scanning probe window all changed and labels gone so my sorting doesn't work, and I bring up F10 map and there are no probes on screen when deployed. The probes show up on the F9 map but that map is windowed and does not behave like the old map which can do full screen to replac the entire space graphics.
This plain sucks for us older exploration pilots.
I have survey data and several feedback threads that disagree with the subjective part of the post. The F9 map can be made fullscreen as you like - just use the options in the top right, or double click the system name.

The old map works fine, but it doesn't work with the new system. Unless you mean the beta map when you say old map, which indeed we have removed scanning from in favour of this new Solar System map.

Saisin wrote:I like most of the improvements to the D-scan map/windows, especially the probe's arrow changing colors when mousing over it.
I miss having the circle showing the current scan %. Being color blind, and red on black being hard for me to see, it helped me locate the exact location of the sigs better. Now, I do like having the white circle and the name showing up when mousing over the name of the anomaly. it would be nice to be able to click on a sig in the probe window and until another sig is selected or moused over there, the white circle and name on the map would remain visible.
I do like the 1-5 shortcuts to change fileter quickly. it would be nice to be able to drag and drop these to tie them to a specific filter of our choice. Can a filter that has the number 1-5 assigned be deleted? Also on one of my alt, I see only shortcuts 1-3 and a line and the other filters below do not have numbers.. not sure why..
I do like the D-Scan layout, but it would be nice if the D-Scan view on the map only shows when D_scan window is currently active. I usualy have both scan window and D-scan window open and tab between them. I'd like to see the D-Scan bubble on the map only when the d-scan window has the focus. Right now you have to close D-scan window to remove it from the map.
Thanks for all the good work!
Having some feedback from colorblind users is great. Thanks. We do actually use colorblind emulator tools when developing to try and mitigate these issues as much as possible but of course getting user feedback is preferred.
Right now there is no way to reassign the default filters, but that's definitely something we could look into if there was sufficient demand. Can you file a bug report on your alt from in-game please? (F12)
The D-scan view is getting a toggle in an update soon :)

Seriously CCP there was nothing wrong with the way probing worked before. Changing things just to be able to say you did something to earn your paycheck hurts the game. Maybe you really didn't earn that paycheck after all.
It's seems like it's a game with you people to see how many subscribers you can run off by making the game worse.
....and no you can't have my stuff.....
Sorry, there was a known issue with the probe window where the box sometimes doesn't appear. Pressing shift once fixes this. We will of course fix it properly.

Thank you.
Sul. All of this. Point 1/ made me hunt a ghost sig for a minute. Also, filtering Anoms is by far my most used filter. Takes now two clicks, I wouldn't mind if it got back its own toggle.
Just press 1 to filter anoms with 0 clicks (and 1 press)

Mr Floydy wrote:Just an initial thought on the new scanner window. I've not used it in anger so can't really comment - but in terms of features it seems ok. Definitely room for improvement though... http://i.imgur.com/BfMF67c.png
Why?! Just why have a drop down button then an uncheck button. Just let me click the wifi button to toggle! You can hit the focus current location button without needing a drop down list... Also, when you have it the camera locked you can't double click on your probes. Can you make it so when the camera is locked we can still double click on our probes to centralise the view there? If we then want to switch back to dscan locked we can then just then (please) click a single button to re-enable it. Quality of life change that I can't see why anyone would be against there. edit - how about just making all the icons visible on the scanner window. The full screen/window/dock has no reason to be a sub menu. Again make it possible to do it with a single click?
There are likely going to be more options in that menu. I totally get that it's weird now though :)
We can't change the fundamental paradigm of how the camera works at this time, so for now it will need to be a toggle. We can definitely make that toggle more accessible if it's going to have to be used a lot though.

I filter probes out using the Markers toggle for this reason, but also I decrease my tooltip sensitivity so I don't get auto-popups.

Quick update post following team meeting.
So, after taking the points about Scanning onboard, here are some changes we'll be working toward:
Make signature circles in Solar System Map (SSM) bigger Make them highlight if probes are over them (more obviously) One click to get to last custom formation Show all remaining signatures in the SSM after you ignore one in the Probe Scanner interface Add visual D-scan toggle to SSM window
And here are some defects we're going to try fixing:
Probe control box not always displaying Probe scanner width settings not correctly retained Signature list in Probe Scanning window snaps to top after each scan Various issues with filters, particularly custom filters General performance issues (keep those bug reports coming if you have performance issues - no multiple reports though from same computer please) D-Scan Overview Filters overhang bounding box Probe scanner interface not snappable to other windows Structure and Scan results are displayed inconsistently.
Please note - this is not an exhaustive list! There are other issues that have been raised in this thread that we are researching more, or waiting to get more feedback on before committing to an action plan. For instance, there have been a lot of remarks about the scan progress lines, the color of the D-scan sphere, and such. These will be iterated on over time, so don't expect fast changes to them. The HUD showing through the Solar System map is something we'll have to put more time into investigating too - don't think that because it's missing from the above list that we've dismissed it or forgotten about it.
I hope these changes show you effectively that we are committed to iteration and we still want your constructive, well explained feedback!
