No, seriously... if I'm wrong, I'm wrong.
BS ratting in 0.0 is great, sure. But lowsec? AF/cruiser could take those spawns on with NP, and get away from pirates quicker.
Yeah, I misread, thought it meant 0.0.
Lowsec BS is stupid.
not so. You can jump a tempest at 100km from belt and 1 volley the cruisers an 2 volley the BC (very fast). You are safer since you are not inside rocks and quite aways from the center of bet. If you have a fellow on a cheap ship to go tehre and get loot and salvage like in a dest. Its the best way to clean low sec belts in no time.
It also gives you chance to simply decide taht that cruiser down there ratting at 100 from where you jumped deserves to die with 1 shot. If brute force doesn't solve your problem.. then you are not using enough!! |

Flying anything larger than a Cruiser in low-sec, ratting or just traveling makes me feel unsafe. Because I know that people will see me on scanners & decide if they wish to jump me. If they do, the are probably confident that they can kill me, and then I'm toast since I'm too slow to get the hell out if being tackled by some inty.
Why do I feel unsafe? Well, because taking down BC & BS's in low-sec belts is what I do for a living, and I know the way that goes.
Of course, I also know how to prevent being jumped (most of the times atleast) so it isn't very often things go bad.
But to answer the OP:
I believe it is they are bored at the moment, going out killing some rats for that moment. T1 Frigs are enough for 0.4-0.1 killing, and it makes it exciting as well.
I'd prefer ratting in a fast ship such as AF/Stabber/Vagabond. That way I can get the hell out fast enough.

Hell, I've fought two ravens in a Nanophoon (ravens being the anti-NP), and very nearly killed one that couldn't hit me with his torps. The other one had Jav torps for some God-only-knows reason, however. Those sting ;.;
Moral: Watch for T2 ravens.
Umm, unless ur in a really slow nanophoon, torps(including javelin) hit for like 1 damage...
The real anti-nanophoon is a nos domi. You cant maintain the mwd with him nossing you and you wont break his tank before you run out of cap charges.
quickfit tells me i get 180dps on a 4450 m/s nanophoon.
Use brain instead of quickfit.
Javelin torps do exactly 0.5damage to my 5km/s vagabond. Same with a phoon at same speed.

Oh the irony.
Sig size Vagabond= 115m Sig size Typhoon= 320m
I'll leave the conclusion to your, apparently excellent, brain.
