I think it's an excellent intitiative!
Although I would have loved to say 'Just join my corp, we're the nicest bunch around and we've got nothing against you guys', there are a few members that I just -know- would make nasty comments.
Homophobia is inevitable, maybe moreso in a gaming environment than in 'Real-Life', as people dare to say more to 'Just a name on your screen' because there are usually no means of retaliation. Just don't forget the Petition>Harassment button, because anyone harassing you certainly doesn't have my respect and should be treated as a punk.
Right, that went off-topic...
I think it might be a viable but slow process to get the corp started. I'm sure that there are quite a few players around that also have different sexual preferences and feel choked and censored in their current corporation. On the other hand though, others might also have settled already and might not wish to join another corporation at this stage.
Whatever you decide to do, I wish you all the best!

Originally by: Nealla Fraer I have been wondering,
How many people out there would like to join a minority corp. for ***, *******, Bisexual, Transgender pilots in EVE? (Straight Allies would be more than welcome, but homophobes, not so much.) I, myself, am getting annoyed by the rampant homophobia presented in many places within our galaxy and the gaming world as a whole. Sometimes, I would just like a place to relax and not worry about such things. All people of skill levels, jobs, and races would be welcome and we would operate just as any other corporation.
Input and opinions welcome. (No, not those types of opinions.) Thanks.
Sounds like you need a pirate corp, we're pretty relaxed about what you shag, I personally had sleezy cybersex with half the ops in #eve-online at quakenet, and i'm pretty sure don ZOLA has some raunchy prison stories.
I mean, when you've been in deep space for long enough, your buddies become...buddilicious, ya know? Is it really my fault I start finding them attractive?

What's to stop people joining and ripping you off, or podding you in hisec, or inviting some "mates" onto your teamspeak and making some "fun" recordings?
Haven't Privateers just wardecced your corp?
Even trying not to think about their motivations, EVE isn't the place for "relaxing and not worrying about such things"... of course you have to worry. Just hope you can pvp, dude...
Wonder if I'll see you selling your char soon...

Its interesting that people think sexuality is about politics.
I always thought it was to do with love (and of course sex).
If you choose to politicise these very basic human rights, thats your problem. EVE has a social element (Vent, RL meetings etc). I can definatly understand that some *** people would feel more comfortable around others who have a shared sexuality.
That said, I honestly don't think there is much genuine homophobia in EVE. I think its more to do with the insecurity of some *** people, rather than anyone particularly disliking them.
Still, anything goes in EVE. Good luck with it.

Well just i like i said before. Non- h o m o s e x u a l s are already been discriminated here even by the moderator by removing my post. Thats what i meant.
What`s next? Starting Corp recruitment for child abusers,or ppl who has s e x with animals. What you are or what you are doing in real life is your own business. It only not belongs here on the forum or in the Eve universe at all.

So you are classing homosexuals in the same area as child abusers? What century are you living in exactly?
And I'd be interested to hear how you think 'non-homosexuals' (of which I am one) are being discrimated against? Only if they choose to post discriminatory or downright idiotic posts like yours.
I dont feel at all 'discriminated' against by giving others the same rights I enjoy. Perhaps you are so insecure about your own sexuality you find this threatening? I believe the phrase is: grow up.

Do you actually understand what Privateers do? I appears not.
They wardecced my Alliance, despite the fact we are pvp 0.0 based and we will never see them.
Privateers wardec anyone and everyone they can, its their business model. Its what they exist for.

Well first of all you have to go back to school and take some reading lessons. Im not against the people but what they are doing and that voice always get slam down. What century i life in? Well i`m living in a century where the main cause of AIDS is h o m o s e x u a l behavior and millions of ppl are dying at it. Thats not what i`m saying but its been proofed by the medical world. People who have studying there half life to become a doctor or more. Do they have to grow up either?

And CCP dont`t want lawyers at there front door about this kind of issues. Very sad
If you want to relax and blah blah blah you always can make strikt rules in your Corp. If members show no respect than just ban them.

Ok. I just noticed that it looks like the forum is sensoring the G and the L words in GLBT. Am I seeing this right?!?!
Hey, I just joined Eve a few weeks ago and am looking for a corp. I play sporadically but was looking for something to kick back with at the end of a long day. (I work 40 hours a week and go to school in Columbus, Ohio.) Games are a hobby but I don't want to spend all day on them. Still I think it would be fun to contribute to an online community/game.
I'm a *** man and I agree that seeing other players typing "you're ***" or "fag" etc. gets pretty old pretty fast. Let's face it, you never know who's on the other end of an avatar. It would be nice to group with some people that may be more likely to share the same values and such.
Thank you for posting this. People need to see it. I think, in addition to the Ethnic Relations, Corporation Management skill, maybe some sensetivity training would be nice. (For my Amar character.

Do you think it would make Real Life (RL) headlines if some online game had RL groups clashing online? I mean, like if some skin heads' had a capital ship blow up a GLBT corporation's fleet or vice versa.
Wouldn't that be interesting? Then too, would we end up like that one old star trek episode where the computers fight simulated wars and tell people when they got killed?

I don`t see why what people`s sexual preferences are, should influence how they play Eve.
Anyone who is friendly, and/or competent within a Corp, is welcome in my corp, whatever your leaning...
(FYI, this character is female, tho in RL I`m not.....and I don`t care whether you are animal, mineral or vegetable)

Hi , I can say that my corp will not treat a *** corp in any other way then we treat any other corp , and if i found my members harrassing someone because they dont agree with their lifestyle they would possibly be kicked from corp. Though i have to warn you there are alot of people who may not feel the same way. good luck with it. jaybo34 ceo shield

Edited by: Dezzereth on 12/01/2007 23:20:13 Personally I don't like the idea, mainly because I think RL attitudes like sexual orientation are thing that do not belong in a game. I don't go to a gaming convention and ask the others I play with: "You homosexual? no? good" either.
That said I don't care who the others I play with are, no matter race, nationality, gender or things like sexual orientation. If I don't like somebody it wil be because our personalities are not compatible, and not because of any of the above mentioned traits, and if I like somebody it will be again just because of compatibility of personalities. This goes to board games as well as computer games. Take Gothie as an example *waves*. I know him for about a year, and I think of him to be a great and fun person, yet I couldn't care less about his actual sexual orientation - he is the same funny guy, be it as a hetero-, bi or homosexual.
If you start up a corp like it, I wish you the best of luck, but, as I already said, I think certain things should be left out of a game.

I think you're right - some things should be left out of a game. Which is why some people feel uncomfortable and unwelcome when discussions in their corp/alliance chat use words like ***/ghey/fag etc as insults, even in jest. People spend enough time in rl putting up with that kind of nonsense and maybe feel they would like to escape in Eve without running into it here too.
What I would say, is that there are plenty of corps and alliances out there full of smart, mature, balanced, secure people who really aren't concerned at the possibility that one or more of the people they're playing with might be LGBT and, on the whole, EVE seems much better on that score than most other MMO's. Of course you can't legislate for idiocy, there's always going to be someone who can't cope with the notion of different sexualities and feels the need to make a point about their own lack of imagination through "***-bashing" of one variety or another. But that's life - whether it's the real or Eve version. It leads to the question of what you want to do about it which, I guess, is what's lead to the original post in the first place.
I remember a similar thread to this one on Eve-I about 6 months after release, which was quickly shut down at the request of people who felt they didn't want to be forced to read about that sort of thing (as if they were in some sort of Clockwork Orange type situation) - an example of such idiocy, IMO. So it's nice to see it getting room to breath here. Also, going to the 'what if' question Ashiana posted earlier
Originally by: Ashiana What's to stop people joining and ripping you off, or podding you in hisec, or inviting some "mates" onto your teamspeak and making some "fun" recordings?
Nothing at all would be the answer to that question, as it would if you asked it of any other corp in Eve although, if it was done as an attempt to harass people because of their sexuality of course, the EULA is there to stop people doing it. But then why assume that a corp full of LGBT (and straight) people would be victims? What if they get together a solid PvP core and defend themselves? What if they attract members who are smart enough to set up corp systems to minimize the chance of corp thieves/spies? I guess the point, for people who have experienced discrimination from corps they've been in, is being among a group of people you can trust not to make your sexuality into an issue. I know I wouldn't want to have to worry that a corpmate might let personal prejudice get in the way and hang me out to dry in the middle of a fight. You may not be able to relax and not worry about such things in Eve as a whole, but you should at least feel like you can in your own corp.
Best of luck with it, I say.

I say that too, maybe I'm a paranoid old *****
However TS harrassment would be nothing to do with EVE-O, you'd have to go to the police and good luck with that
So if you guys/gals do use TS/Vent, make sure you secure your TS against TEH INVADIN HORDS.
TBH I probably just feel bad because I don't know anything about that and can't help :p
