I've tried again, but when the downloader at the logon prompt tries to download the patch, it show this error:
Quote: There was an unexpected error while retrieving patch status:
Unable to download file o2/test/evepatch28296-28750_test.exe from the server. Error: url //ccp.vo.llnwd.net/o2/test/evepatch28296-28750_test.exe not found
Do you want to go to support page?
However with adler's version information, I changed the url to: http://ccp.vo.llnwd.net/o2/test/evepatch28296-28863_test.exe
And installed it that way, but still now luck. It still closes the window without a warning when I select the character and get the 'Entering game as Chruker...' waiting bar.

WTSUnRegisterSessionNotification call still there. You can grab wtsapi32.dll from XP install (%SYSTEMROOT%\system32) and place it in [EVE]\bin but then you get WinStationRegisterConsoleNotification missing in winsta.dll
Oddly enough, this function is not even listed on MSDN

Same problem back as with the vivox test before revelations hit. I get to choose character, it starts logging in and then the client goes poof.

I tested this today with the help of Agril (thanks Agril!). On my account, the "Join Audio" option in a channel does not work. Specifically: - I do not get a confirmation beep - After "Join Audio", the choice is again to "Join Audio", indicating that it did not "take" - I can see the green audio bubble of others, but hear nothing. They cannot hear me speak, and see no green audio bubble for me.
Things done to set this up: - Audio was already enabled. All volumes at default "4.0" and Voice "9.0" - Ran the Audio wizard. Output is SB Audigy 2ZS, input is mike. Confirmed that the wizard picks up my mike input - I can hear EvE game sound fine. - Restarting the client did not help. - When exiting the client to restart, it "hung" and had to be killed through Taskmaster.
System setup: - Windows XP 64-bit Pro (<- is that the issue right there?!? XP 64-bit does NOT allow 32-bit drivers, in case you're trying to load drivers for this functionality. Also, if the code that does Vivox runs 64-bit native - it might, depending on compiler options - all DLLs it loads would have to be 64-bit native.) - Audigy 2 ZS, with recent drivers - no on-board sound; on-board is disabled in BIOS - GeForce 6800GT, recent drivers - AMD Athlon 64 3700+, 2GB RAM, some NForce mobo or other. Been a while since I built this box :)

Hi,
A corp mate and I were testing this a few days ago and found a few things.
Firstly the eve window must be on top for u to be able to talk..... this is an issue when running two accounts and also when reading forums etc at the same time.
Secondly when using the middle mouse button as my talk button the transmit(?) would remain on at times when button was not depressed. In other words he could here me after i had stoped pressing middle mouse button. I could stop the transmitting by tapping the middle mouse button again.
This problem does not occur with Team speak whith my middle mouse button as talk button so i do not think it is my mouse.

Originally by: Chruker When I start the client with and logs into the game, I can get to the character selection screen. However when I click the character and get the entering character in game bar. The game window closes without any kind of warning or error message. It doesn't generate dumps, and it doesn't restart the client as it does when it looses connection.
This all started on the day or the day after that Vivox was enabled. Before that I could regularly connect to the test server.
I've tried copying the working TQ installtion 5-6 times and then upgrading, but still with the same exit to desktop.
So far I think the client versions that has been on were 28505, 28599, 28750 and 28296.
Well 28750 wasn't really tested since it came on at a unscheduled downtime, so I upgraded, but then the server was downgraded almost immediately. This has happened 3 times or so for me. A bit annoying but now I've made a zip of the TQ installation so it is a bit faster to make a copy.
Anyway, I've also noticed on TQ that the client could make strange sounds during severe lag cause by my computer being busy with some file operation. However that strange sounds just like an electrical noise when a mic. is being plugged in. I had wondered about that, but since the Vivox code must be dorment in 28296, I guess that there could be a connection.
When I just tried it, there was a small patch upgrade to 28912. Whatever has happened between yesterday and now, something has made it stop crashing.

After installing todays patch to 28986, I'm getting the crashing thing again. At the same point.
I tried to attach a debugger to EVE and then let it crash. It just gave this unhandled exception:
First-chance exception at 0x0187fe11 in ExeFile.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation writing location 0x00000000. Unhandled exception at 0x0187fe11 in ExeFile.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation writing location 0x00000000.

I beleive vivox is causing a CTD with eve on Windows Vista Ultimate x64. Is there a flag we can set in prefs to prevent eve loading the dlls.
I'm gussing this is what's causing the problem after the character selection screen.

Same here. Vivox is evil to Vista. But there is a way:
- backup your /bin/Vx*.dll (3 files) - login, and when on character select, DELETE those 3 files. Kill them completely. Insult them. Insult their mother. Insult the city where they were born. - proceed with login as normal
Some weird things happen, like Local disappearing, but at least we can test everything else. When you rerun the client, copy the 3 .dlls to their original location (/bin), repeat the whole process.

I¦m running vista 32bits since last week and was running smooth. But yesterday, two of my three accounts just stop working. When u select the char, game start loading and crash to desktop saying something abou DEP closed application. The problem is my third account is working normally.
Anyone has any idea? That two accounts is bugging are on voice server test... The issue started a few hours after I emailed ccp for the voice test.
All accounts are working fine on XP.
I tryed everthing. reinstall. prefes.ini, disable dep for eve.exe and install game in another parttion. Also, windows says cant run exefile.exe on bin dir without dep enable.
Thanks.

Vista is simply the worst, most incompatible OS ever to be released. badvista.fsf.org has a good deal of documentation on the incompatibilitys of Vista with anything worth using that may help you isolate the issues your having.

Edited by: Seraph M on 05/03/2007 06:16:22 Edited by: Seraph M on 05/03/2007 06:15:48 Vista is working fine. EvE was working fine until Vivox was integrated. That tells me it's an integration of Vivox bug, not some mysterious Vista bug that only appears with this new adaptation in a video game.
Same here. I have retail version of Vista Business. It DEP's after I select my character. Attemps to change settings has not had any affect. This has made my client unusable. Can this "add-in" be optional?
