Edited by: Snow Monkey on 03/01/2007 15:52:43 I'm not sure if this has been answered before now, the search option on these forums isn't the best...
How many bookmarks were removed in the purge, and how much of an effect has this had on performance etc? Was there as much resources freed as you'd hoped?

If I recall correctly, they said that bookmark use accounted for 15% of database activity.

I've requested some numbers resulting from the warp to 0 change and bookmarks. I do know that before the bookmark overhaul there were over 270 million bookmarks in the database, the majority of which were removed by users or the server. I'll pass along the information when I get an answer.

There was no felt improvement ingame unless you really had a lot of bookmarks.
If you had a lot of them, the login and recovery from jumpsickness went much smoother. But that was well known, but widely ignored by people who bought thousands of BP. --*=*=*--
The cause for this is not yet known, but we do have a possible fix in testing. by Sharkbait | 2006.09.20 |

Call me what you like, but i'd rather not have to wait 3 months for it in blog form to get posted on the boards.

Oh mah god, 270 million? 270,000,000 / 180,000 accounts = ~1500 per person! _______________________________________________

I had a few hundred self-made bookmarks. The auto-purge got all but about 25 of them, and I've since deleted all but 4.
I've noticed a dramatic improvement in load time going into the game.
I've also noticed, in general, that Jita seems to be much less laggy at a given level of users than it used to be, although I have no way of knowing if that's due to bookmarks or something else. _____ Lifewire is a big, ugly, mean... carebear. |

imagine how much there would be if they didn't remove it.. i mean.. new regions, new bookmarks, more people buying it.. we'd be well good on our way to the 400m bookmarks by now...
I'm glad they are gone.. how sad I am that I spent money on em to begin with.. but you can't have it all. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Xaroth Brook Brainiac of Doomcraft |

I had about 200 now im down to around 100.
It removed all my gate instas, fair enough, very few of my station instas, got most of them myself.
Unfortunitly it got 3/4 of my safe spots, all my super safe spots that had been handed down from generation to generation... that kinda sucked. Noticed some slight improvements with logging on, but then i guess i wasnt the bookmark hoarder being targetted.

1500 seem few. People were selling entire region BMs. Lonetrek + Forge alone reach around ~1100 BMs ___

You can make bookmarks in this game!?!?! That would have made my Veldspar lovin' so much easier than approaching...
But speaking of BMs, I still have BMs that are within range of stations and gates so it seems that not all BMs was purged, but the BMs load so much faster now - good change.

Ya about the same idea.
Lot of old bookmark pointing from ancien jump still exist :D They were probably removed in RedMoon period (around 40-50 stargate).
They should reconnect all old gates, run script of bookmark and disconect old gate again :D
Could get an extra 10-20m useless bookmark. __ UI Overhaul Eve Links http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&thread |

I received the datamining request from the operations team concerning bookmarks. Please keep in mind that there are bookmarks in locations other than People & Places that need to be removed, so there is still more to be gained over coming weeks and months.
Approx. number of bookmarks in the database at the introduction of Warp to 0 and bookmark deletion: over 280 million. Number of bookmarks deleted: just under 227 million. Number of bookmarks remaining (user owned or 'in the system'): ~33 million. Amount of database space freed: ~15 GB
Performance improvement data is still being examined. Please keep in mind that massive code and database structure changes were made at the same time bookmarks were deleted, so we cannot point to any one change and say, "This was responsible for a x% reduction in latency." However, we know disk queues and db waits are lower and player log-in and session change times have significantly decreased.
We still have more to do, as the community deletes bookmarks, we still have to remove them from the deleted item database, aka the 'junkyards'. As this progresses database performance will continue to improve, but these improvements may not be readily apparent to the community.
We've made it a long way, but still have a bit to go. The community has been great with their support and continuing to delete unneeded bookmarks will help out even more.

Good to see... But I'm not removing my bookmarks due to the workload it would take me. I had to clear out my cache too many times, so all folders got mixed up. Too many valuable Midsafes - scanning points - sniping spots (an the like), etc.... remain cluttered in the mess i've made ... I'm sure now that we don't have the "loading/copying" helps the servers' resources aswell...

I had about 600 or so before - I just used certain routes, not entire regions.
I'm down to about 20 now and those are for things like posses, secure ammo cans and warp bubble anchoring points. --

15Gb, over 240m records? Crikey!
How does this affect users who have deactivated their accounts pre-kali, yet still have a few thousand bookmarks? I am sure the total number of bookmarks is insignificant, but still.
