I always wonder where people get those disconnects from, cause i have three computers running and almost never get disconnected.
And... well... its not like they are forcing you to play the game |

There of course was 24 hour downtime today (STILL ONGOING TECHNICALLY)
If you bothered to read the news that was on login for at least two days you would have known.

Yes, 24 hour downtime to solve some hardware thingies.
And check your own system, before letting your anger out on the commuity of EVE-online. Look in the Known Issues section.

You came at a bad time, if you don't have patience during a downtime then you're sure as hell not going to survive the long-term, so its best you leave now.
Buh-bye .

Can I have your stuff!
As above I think you should check known issues etc as the problem is more than likely to be your end. If everyone was having the same experiences as you, the game would no longer exist or be growing. 100k subscribers says a lot!
I've been playing since autumn '05 and I've never had any serious connection problems which weren't down to local issues.
Maybe your just too immature for this game!

Dude... I wonder what would be your experience playing online games...
I¦ve played Rainbow Six (the first one in gamespy) for like 1 year, then Medal of Honor for 2 years, then America¦s Army for another 2 years. Migrated to World of Warcraft soon as it released and then played for another 2 years.
Now I'm playing EvE for like 1 month, and after 7 years playing online games, including WoW, all I can say is Tranquility is one of the most stable servers I ever played.
The conclusion is: Don¦t play mmorpg¦s in a PC-XT with 16mb ram and a 56k modem. Twice the pride, double the fall. |

Here's a thought. I'd have loved to see this guy's face while trying to play AO back in the day that they tried running trough the TCP protocol (which was the main reason playing sessions were so horribly unstable). Would make for entertainment of epic proportions!
Tranq is DEFINETELY the most superior server in existence. Expecially considering no other MMOG can get close to having 30K users on ONE single server. |

Indeed.
Try to play World of Warcraft after any patch.
Or try to ambush an horde city with 3 full raid groups with only 40 ppl each and the server just go down. Everytime.
120 ppl together = server crash
And tranquility sux? Yeah right... Twice the pride, double the fall. |

Okay with the keep it up part because eve is not perfect... yet. There's still a few stability issues, server and client side. But hey it's a living program, evolving every day so that's pretty standard. Besides the technical accomplishment eve is implies that we, as pionneers of the mmo world, do have to undergo a few glitches now and then... That's a price I'm willing to pay to enjoy the depth and width of eve-online. If you're not prepared to endure a few bugs and/or downtimes for server upgrade, play chess, not MMOs. ----- " There's no brave in a 5-to-1 fight. Just 5 cowards and a fool. - Perhaps. Are you joking? I always CTD when I play chess, and then my opponent slaughters me while I franticly try to log back on. In the new patch, they totally nerfed the bishop (he can only move diagonally now, on one color), and the queen is a starting class! WTF is that? Screw chess. I'm going to go play WoW. --- Real men structure tank.

I experience disconnects from time to time but EVE and the CCP folks are usually ready with a patch.
The thing about software development is that anything out the door to the customer is going to be buggy. The right way to develop, and this is what CCP does really well, is to always be making improvements and fixes.
Take a look at the evolution of Windows, for example, from 3.1 to XP and now Vista. The early verisons of Windows were amazing for their high levels of crappyness. But since software development is always an on going process things got better and better with Win 98, 2000, XP, and now Vista. I'm not an apologist for Microsoft. This is just an example of how good development works. EVE is the same way from Red Moon Rising (and earlier) to Revelations, and from patch to patch.
EVE would really suck if there were known problems and the dev team NEVER made any fixes. That's the bad way to do software and this game does not follow that model in my opinion. This is very well done.

Well actually, its more like 150,000+ subscribers paying $15 a month which equals over 2 million bucks a month, or about $25 million a year. But I don't think you get nothing... they have released a number of FREE expansions since 2003, and the game is constantly evolving, plus the hardware Tranquility is running on is being upgraded - I mean, that's why there was 24 hours downtime yesterday. If you are getting constant disconnects then maybe it is an issue at your end, or your ISP.

I was a bit upset by the downtime, too. But then again I didn't read the News so it's my own fault. My only reason for being upset was because it interrupted my training plan for that day. I had planned on training various small skills while at work but the downtime messed that up. If I had read the News I would have just started a longer training skill and wouldn't have worried about it.
I'm still new to online gaming and I don't know how often this stuff happens. But I do read the News now. And I wasn't sure if training had ceased during the downtime or not. I had also wondered what would happen if you were trying to get back to a base and the server went down before you got there. What if I had to leave for work and the server came back up. Would I just be floating around out there? What happens?
