The password is not your 'account password'. There is no reference to it being that whatsoever. The password is for website access when your account is setup, if your application is accepted.
As for the real name, date of birth, etc, there is a note at the bottom that these are for internal use only.
I've never felt 'insecure' about providing this info to HDY, and my account passwords are always different from my website/forum passwords for security reasons anyway.

The reason we do this is two fold actually...
We provide our members with internal email addresses (@hadean.org accounts) in addition to accessing their own pilot dossier (for history, story, descriptions etc) and to access their forum accounts.
