I made a very unfortunate action while i was doing this mission. I blew away the control tower while suddenly there appeared a lot of cruisers near it. I panicked a bit and rushed to get the datachip and warped out.
Problem is that i indeed managed to acquire the datachip, but just when i would have warped away my Brutix got blown away. Unfortunately the chip was blown away with it. Now i would expect it would just respawn but i was being told that if the 'object completed' appears in the mission journal, the control tower won't respawn. However, i was also being told that if the datachip wasn't labeled 'specific item' that there might me other ways of acquiring the chip.
So, my question is: Is it possible to acquire another datachip with which i can finish the mission? I looked around in the market but there was only a "high tech chip" for sale while i need a normal one. Thanks for answering...

Just to make sure first--you're positive it was destroyed? i.e., it was on the killmail? If not, it'll be in your cargo can.
You said you looked at the market, did you check Contracts? I'd try that, as well as looking at contracts in other regions like The Forge. You can also put up a contract of your own, or see if anybody in your corp or Local has a spare. Obviously it'll help a lot if the data chip isn't mission-specific.
Also, I don't think the control tower will respawn, but it's worth a try if nothing else works.

Yeah, i'm postive it is destroyed as it said so in the killmail.
However, i made the no so wise move to go to my wreck make sure. The space was filled with over 30 cruisers/Battlecruisers and 6 Battleships. In 1 second my armor was destroyed and the next second my brandnew Brutix was blown away as well.
Quite ironic, as i managed to play for 1.5 month without ever losing a ship. I will remember this mission for a long time

Ayy, yeah that sucks, pwnd by the reinforcements. :( You're probably aware of it, but just in case not, you can do that kind of scouting in your pod without getting any aggro from NPCs. Anyway, sorry.

Well, it happens and won't happen again indeed.
If anyone reading this knows how i can get a data chip (can't find one in market and contracts), please lmk.

You're screwed. The only way to get another chip is to do the mission again or have someone else do the mission and give you theirs.
Somebody isn't going to be completing Portal to War (2 of 5) and it's probably going to be you.
