There is an easy way to make pirates happy.
- Make the warp free zone for gates 50km.
- Have the warp free affect both warp in and out.
- Have warp free zones for stations at 50km.
- Make minerals and modules 100 times larger.
- Remove the turret from the freighters.
- Make the cargo bay of the freighters 100 times larger.
Why do you ask, because the prey of pirates are freighters not warships. Pirates should, as they do now, run from a combat force. I could list why this is good for PvP but would most likely get flamed.

Edited by: Sylia Masters on 01/12/2003 03:11:36 That would make Eve unplayable. 50 km (40km with 10km towing range for stations and JGs) is a long long distance. Depeding on the ship config it could take a good 400 seconds (6 minutes 40 seconds) to reach either of these.
1) It takes less then a minute to blow up an indy 2) It adds 600% to the travel time of each system 3) Agent missions and mining are now very impractical.

Your math does not completely work out. Most indies can handle 4 or more ABs. I use 4 myself and do 420+mps without MWD on my Bestower. The distance from the gate you need to be to jump is 11km. At 400+mps, which is not that hard to do, then it takes about 90 seconds to do 39km. This does not make the game unplayable. Stations are not much different than this.
Agent missions are borning but they are so easy it is a joke. As to the issue of mining, I did not suggest that ore be bulker, larger, so freighters can carry more ore to make mining easier. What this does do is make it hard to move many modules or minerals with warships, you will have to use transports that will have to be protected.
I guess I just dont agree with your reasoning that this is bad.

Okay, so you have covered a ship with 4 afterburners equipped...
Now lets talk about a 30 jump trip out into 0.0 in a battleship that does 150 m/s.
That's a minimum of 11 minutes of travel time per system, not including warp time which can often take over a minute itself.
Do the math. You're talking about almost an hour for every 5 jumps. Unplayable about sums it up.

Well, that is a good point. How about warships having better shielding and can take the strain of warping closer to gates and get the 30 or 35 km that was stated is going to happen by the Devs? Then this change mainly affects the movement of goods.
But even then your 30 jump trip is going to take 1 hour not counting time warping with just what the Dev's are going to do.
I still think the same warp free zone should be around stations.

If we're going to do something for pirates, lets implement slowly degrading CONCORD response and sentry gun strength from 0.9-0.1 systems.
Viola, plenty of happy pirates.

I think the other thing you need to do for pirates is ensure that there exists a "way back" into empire space.
It shouldnt be easy, but pirates should be able to repair their security status. It is unreasonable to ask someone to wait 40 days so that he can enter back into 1.0 space if he has killed a few ships. Especially in light of the rampant security hit bugs and flawed system.
I actually toook a securiy hit a few nights ago when I deactivated a module that was on autorepeat. -Othnark

What we need to do is make an item that lets the pirates/bountyhunters increase the range. DO u remember how boring traveling was before u got ab-MWDs? Now u wanna make it 6 times worse? Not everybody has these skills you know(I do ) The mouintan the noobs have to climb is far enough.

hum. guess what you really want is a server called Pirate haven, and other called carebears central, a third called everybody else, and a 4th called chaos.
this is not Burger King, you do not get it your way.
what you suggest would just add to the player base decline and finish of EVE as a game
but then again you did say it was to make pirate's happy. I thought they were happyest when they had gate or JIP lagged all to hell and pod killed everybody insight or could pod kill newbies outside starter stations My alt hates me, I don't know why. he won't even talk to me anymore |

OK i am a complete pirate n00b (as im about to reinforce with my post ;-) ) but what so dificult about warping into the minig fields as I have/do and loosing off a few rounds at minors? Works for me. Amazing how many people don't protect themselves when mining in 0.4 or lower .... just deserve it :-)
And now I have trained up one of those webythingywatsits I should atually get a couple of kills! lol

In my honest opinion, battleships should not be able to fly at the STUPID speeds that they already can achieve with MWD's. The stresses on the hulls of ships that large accellorating that fast would tear them appart. Battleships are SUPPOSED TO BE SLOW.
If you want to gallavant accross the universe, then get in a shuttle or a frigate.
In fact, just get rid of MWD's completely. All they do is screw up PVP anyway. Its not like you don't already have the ample chance to warp to a safe spot as soon as you see anyone enter the same system as you, but now you can get into a fight and then wuss out and run away at a billion km/s?
It is all about roles. Frigates are supposed to be fast, nimble, and easily blown up. Battleships were supposed to be slow, turn like drunken slugs, and soak up lots of damage and dish out crazy amounts.

Quote:

No, stupidity caters to anyone's whim. Making yourself a target, and there's really no better way than flying an overburdened hauler through dangerous areas alone, is stupidity. Going to a place whose entry stargates all but have a billboard stating "Get Eaten at Tank's!" is stupidity.
Quote:

Who says they have to make a positive contribution to the community? Not CCP. We can go through the box quotes again, but that's been done. But let's turn that around a bit...
What was the last positive contribution anyone made to the community? Your wallets do not count as the community. Me? I was travelling through Aridia and someone took the time to warn me there were pirates in the area. So I turned off the autopilot, stopped at the stargate and guarded the gate open so she could escape. Didn't know what ships they had, had blueprint originals in the hold. Turned out to be bbirds, which were kinda outgunned by a scorpion.

Odd, I get plenty of useful things done. Even when the pirates are about. Don't try to blame the game's or your personal failings on the pirates. They have nothing to do with consistancy in the rules, bugfixes, new content or your lack of a spine.

I just had to spend 2 and a half days including a 60 jump round trip going from -6.1 to 0.0. It only took me 2 ship kills and many drone kills to get here. Dont you think that disrupting my play time for over 2 daysis good enough of a "punishment" If i want to correct my status? Why should I have to wait a month and a half for this?
Believe me 2 days plus is plenty of incentive to get pirates who want to travel the empire to be VERY selective about targets and to reconsider every action they take. -Othnark

Yeah I think you pretty much nailed it there. Of course you canŠt get rid of the invul timer until they have fixed the load lag.
Personally I thing it would be one of the worst idea ever to always warp 50km from jumpgates and station. I wouldnŠt mind seeing something like a random factor where you warp somewhere between 10km and 50km. __________ Capacitor research |

Lets face it, there are many more carebear exploits in this game than combat ones, but they NEVER get dealt with. Its only once someone actually loses out that the devs do anything.

Actually this is very doable, since I do it on one of my unknown alts often enough. It's just that you're apparantly not smart enough to pull it off.

"Hmmm...ah yeah sorry, "efficiently" eh?"
I'm not whining saying that I should be able to do so without risk (I think there should be risk, and there is). I know that I can't do it without risk, so therefore I make my millions in empire space, and let you fools sit at JIP's all day long and not get a chance to pod me.
Don't you guys worry your pretty little heads about what I do in empire space. You always told me if I'm not gonna PvP, to stay in the safe systems, well that's what I'm doing. But yet, now we have PK'ers b!tching about how they can't come into empire space because of thier sec rating. Too bad! Stay in the systems you belong, and I'll do the same.
I have mined in 0.0 space for bis, but quite frankly, I can make enough in empire space and not have to deal with you at the same time.
So, you may think you are smarter than me and all, but... ...been there done that. I was just using it as an example of something a non-combatant can't do in 0.0 space, just the way you guys wanted it.
When the time arises for me to foray back into 0.0 space, I'll take the proper precautions to cover me in the case of an unfortunate greifing.
Till then, enjoy the JIP camping guys, you should be proud of your accomplishments, and the way you add such rich content to the game.
Don't bypass the profanity filter. Thanks. - Orestes
