Hello,
i made some tests with my raven today and got this numbers:
with 6 Cruise Missile Launchers II and 3 Ballistic Control Systems II the DPS on structure was 454,93 (this with 5% rof imp, so in in pvp situation without implants ~5% less). The skills concerning DPS are almost at maxout (only 2% in dmg and 2 % in rof left (lvl 8 skill must be trained to 5 for this)). So even if i train the skills to maxout (wich takes more than 1,5 months) the dps will be under 500, getting less on targets with a smaller signature radius than ~230 or/and faster than ~770 m/s.
I read people with turrets do like 1200 or even 1400 dps. In chats some said Cruises are useless for pvp, train for Torps ... so was the training for Cruise Missiles useless when i like to do PvP ? Or are that turret-dps numbers not very realistic, just possible dps when counting wrecking hits ?
How do you think about it, can a Cruise missile raven be of any good in pvp - or is it too bad to kill a bs (as torp-ravens or turrets outdamage it by far) and smaller targets (as here the drake & other bc/cruisers out-perform it by far) ? Would you stay with Cruise Missiles if you had trained them to 5 + specialization to 4 if you'd decided to switch from pve to pvp ?
Thanks for any input.

the dps on cruise is pretty poor - the only trick they have is that they can fire from well over 200Km.

They hurt cruisers and slow friggies, then again so do torps tbh..
As always it depends on what you're facing, you'll probably get more use out of torps and much higher damage against BC's and bigger.

You cant compare Missle DPS with Turret DPS.
Cruise missle raven works very well in PVP. You also have the advantage of being able to use FOF. put a smartbomb on aswell.

Cruise missiles have a myrad of advantages over torps- alot faster, much greater range, better hits vs smaller targets, easier on the PG and CPU, cheaper, less cargo taken up, longer periods between reload, F.O.F's.
There's quie a few theoretical situations where cruise are preferable, and in strictly defined situations you could use them. Trouble is PVP is the least predictable thing in eve, they simpley arn't powerful enough for PVP. Unfortunaly they're missiles version of rails dual 250's, while they could do with being more like 350mm (ie closer to torps). --------------------------------- There's a simple solution to every problem. It is always invariably wrong |

i use a cruise raven in pvp, its god versus anything smaller then battleships...
-cruisers die in 2-3 volleys -battlecruisers go down fast aswell -destroyers can be 1-volleyed if using precisions -so do interceptors -afs are also 2-3 volleys....
although ive also taken on battleships with it and won, remember, its not about outdamaging, its about outsmarting...
eeeeeeek my sig got nerfed again :( |

I will happily take out a torp raven any day with a cruise raven ... the fact is that the setups that a cruise missle raven can utilise are so much more versatile and solid that it would be stupid not to use them, saying that though torps do have their uses in pure gank situations but since the nerf of javelins i prefer to use cruise even more.

They have low fitting requirements though, and can be good in battleship combat, if you keep your low DPS in mind.
