Okay went to .3 space and tanked it in my bs the dps output seemed comparable to an easy level 4. I can see how it would cause problems for smaller ships, but then i already knew that.
But maybe my original post wasn't clear.
What i meant is that its not as if the sentry's stop pirating, but whether they encourage more a group mentality and discourage solo fighting. Gates seem to be an obvious place to find fights, since there is nothing in the belts.
Im in one of the least populated regions and yet to find me a day where I can't find someone in belts...

removing them wouldn't affect big gate camps much but at the moment if u attack a bs solo at a gate in low sec it's a real challenge to tank it and the bs if he's good. it's still possible to do with most bs in low sec but if u come across a decent fitted/skilled bs u can really struggle where as without guns u can pretty much kill anything on it's own. also a nano'd/stabbed hauler can easily escape a couple of ppl gate camping atm but without guns u could just sit there in a stilleto with +4 scram and mwd and get any t2 hauler etc coming through.
in conclusion. imo they need to be there.
