Did you read what I wrote? I'm talking about faction passive resist amps. They use no cap.
I think Beef meant that because a "standard" drake has loads and loads of cap to spare (because no shield boosters+missiles dont use cap), it can easily use active hardeners, instead of using passive hardeners. |

Originally by: Kinsei Isamu I want to move on to level 3s. I have the money for a Drake and fittings. I'm wondering if the following will be adequate for all level 3s: Highs: 7x heavy launchers (arbalest, or xr-3200s) Meds: AB, 3x LSE II, 2x hardeners (rat type, or invuln fields, depending) Lows: 1x PDS I (can't use PDS II quite yet), 1x Shield Power Relay, 2x BCS II
That should be able to complete any L3s without breaking a sweat. Well, except "The Blockade", you need to be careful there, but still doable.
You could switch to HAMs if you keep the AB for some extra damage against larger targets, with much less reach. Personally I'd advise against, unless you have very good drone skills (T2 lights almost a must in this case). Or you could keep heavies and swap out the AB for a 3rd hardner or even a shield recharger, and the PDS for a second SPR... moderate cap skills should be enough to run 3 hardners permanently even with 2 SPRs.
Add 3 purger rigs and you should be able to do some L4s too, your only problem should be with breaking the tank on some BSs... this is where the change to HAMs could do you some limited good, but with good skills and T2 BCUs you should be able to break their tank even with Arbalest heavies, so not absolutely necessary to swap out.
P.S. Get L5 engineering and some levels of advanced weapons upgrades ASAP. _ MySkills | Module/Rig stacknerfing explained |

What do you think of this seup for mission and ratting?
kind of a mix of modules but the PDS and RDU are necessary to fix my PG for all the other stuff, until I train adv weapon upgrades. As for the resistance amp's I have most of my Shield Compensation skills up to lv3 or 4 and I figured I may as well use them Drake

Quote: Of course: will this be able to tank level 3s?
You do realize its lv3 we are talking about
that tank could tank most of lv4 without breaking a sweat
with BC lv3 you can just rush through most lv3: high: 7 heavy II med: 2 LSE, 1 AB, 3 hardners low: 3 BCU II, 1 nano/iStab (just because) rig: (optional for lv3) 1 purger + 2 nav rigs
For lv4: high:7 heavy II med: 3x LSE, 3 hardner low: 3 BCU II, 1 relay rig: 2 purger + 1 power grid (for the third LSE without having to replace 3rd BCU with RCU)
with that setup and BC lv4 (with shield skills 4 or 5 of course) you can tank 95% lv4 missions with no probs -------------------------------------------------- Yes I'm a forum alt, what you going to do about it? |

That's like my setup. With less damage. You don't need more than 90/s with 85+ to the 2 damage types. (kinetic\therm). Focus on damage after that. I've got about 100/s on mine with 4x BCU II's. No need for more than that tbfh Coke Habbit |

I've run a ton of level 3s. I've only played for a month and a half, so my skills aren't that great. The only mission I've had to warp out on is The Blockade. I haven't tried the Angel Extravaganza bonus room, but I can tank the Guristas Extravaganza bonus room just fine and clear it without warping out.
highs 7 x heavy missile launcher - best you can afford
mids 3 x large shield extenders (I use Regoliths) 3 x active hardeners (I use an inv field and 2 rat specific usually)
lows 2 x shield power relay 2 x PDS
drones (I only have Drones III) 2 x Hammerhead I 1 x Hobgoblin I
rigs none
I've recently gotten Engineering V and swapped out a PDS for a BCS and fitted a tractor beam. It's slow but I feel very safe.
I've lost a Drake on Pirate Invasion but only because I was stupid and aggroed everything in the last room. Always wait a bit after warp in to see what - if anything - aggroes before you start shooting.

7 heavy launchers
4 large shield extenders 2 hardeners
3 PDS 2 Power relays
this is a very strong tank, should easily run level 3's though i haven't tried it out personally yet...

well at least I won't run into problems,Only problems that I find is that I need 2 Reactor Control Unit II to fit everything so is it permissible to fit these to a drake or just wait until I train up ADV weapon Upgrades?

OK... that gives: - 16653 shield hp - 56 shield hp/s recharge
EDIT: I don't need rigs, do I? So expensive.
HIGH 7x Heavy launchers 1x tractor beam MED 2x LSE II 2x Resistance amplifier EM/KEN 2x hardeners EM/THERM LOW 1x DMG controll II 2x BCU II 1x Shield power relay
I'm using this setup, with those hardeners, you get 70+ on all resistance, you can switch for specific resistance. am able to do all lvl 3 i've tried including blockade

EVERY level 3 mission is a breeze in a drake. I tanked level 4 Silence the informant yesterday in my drake which is largely tech1 fitted (except the large shield extenders) and without rigs, and I never got into real trouble. I did have a corp mate in a raven to deal some damage though, which is something the drake is lacking. But I haven't found one level 4 mission I wasn't able to solo tank with ease. I haven't tried worlds collide yet though :)
