I heard about on guy, who got his account hacked? Can it realy be done?

9 times out of 10 people who got 'hacked' had the following happen;
- they gave their info to someone else who misused it
- they sold the account/character and need a good story
- they made a mess of things and need a scapegoat
But yes, keyloggers can happen, read the sticky on this forum. Basically don't use 3rd party programs and run a proper virus checker.

I am pretty sure personally that keyloggers is a scarecrow CCP uses to scare customers off 3rd party stuff ;)

You forgot a possibility:
-download a program to modify EVE, automated mining script or whatever, and it had been planted with a keylogger in place.
Or maybe it just runs such that whenever you turn it on, it mines a whole container of ore and then messages the author to come steal it from you. ;p

It could definitly happen. I play online poker so this is something I am espescially sensitive to because its not just your stuff being looted and some missing ISK, but RL currency that they can get. Often the keylogger can be attributed to a 3rd party program. In the poker workd there was a program to calculate rakeback that did just this, many people hacked, real money taken...

keyloggers were originally created as a security feature so you could monitor activity on your pc whilst you were away from it....
eg spying on the missus etc...
they have been changed so that they can be downloaded on to your pc and to send data to the internet.
if you are not careful you can lose account names, passwords etc, not just for eve but for your internet banking etc.
this is why you should only install software you trust. its why we say dont use third party software.
if you use firewalls/virus scanners and common sense (!) you should be ok!
