Edited by: Stavros on 02/12/2003 17:06:57 Ok I am dead set against these changes and here is why.
Firstly the majority of people whining for 'mixed fleets' are just being rather idiotic.
By the time a player is experienced enough to be useful in combat and not just a total nooblar, he/she will be within a day or so work of owning a cruiser, from here it is only a few days solid mining to get him/her a bship. So WHY would he/she want to fly a frigate? Answer he/she wouldn't.
So why else should there be mixed fleets, just to FORCE people into frigates? Oh cos thats REALLY great that is, all these people have worked for weeks to get their fleets of bships together and then suddenly OOOH look half of u have to jump into frigates, sorry about that ok? just go sell your hard earned bships on the market kthxbye.. Yeah right thats gonna go down well... reallllly well..
Also if you notice that throughout this thread you have two types of people, the people who actually pvp alot and do it well, evolution guys (even frst :P, but not sutty COUGH pod yourself COUGH) are all deadset against these changes because they understand that whilst they might be a step in the right direction, it is too late or maybe too early to implement them at this stage. In the mainstay, the people whining FOR the changes are noname people who are not big players on the pvp scene.
Anyone who pvps knows that most of the targets u will ever engage in a fight, will easily escape you. This is a given, its what keeps balance in the game, if everytime there was a fight one side was annhialted not many people would fight. However under these new changes, it will be nigh on impossible to kill anyone without them escaping. For example atm I am in a scorpion with level 4 signature analysis and an f-90, my lock time is around 2-3 seconds, I warp into a belt I can have an indy or cruiser locked down in under 15 seconds. Under the new changes I will be lucky to do it inside 30, who on EARTH is going to stay around for 30 seconds whilst enemies are sat next to them? Nobody thats who...
Its ok I hear you cry, you can BRING a frigate along! OK ill just bribe one of my friends out of his HARD EARNED bship and into a frigate, so now we both warp into somewhere and he can lock MUCH faster than I can. He locks the enemy cruiser down, but ooooh dear whats this, the cruiser pummels the frigate with fof missiles before i can get a lock on the cruiser to kill it! GREAT!!!! GO MIXED FLEET COMBAT!
So after all that pointless drivel we now get to what I am actually trying to say, these changes are probably nice, WAY to extreme in their present form but given some moderation they are a step in the right direction. HOWEVER with the game as it stands they will just totally stuff it up without LOTS AND LOTS of VERY significant changes like the removal of invul timers, the removal of loading lag, severe nerfing of fof missiles. All this of course will have to be implemented whilst we wait for the tech 2 patch which DONT FORGET has been promised to us before xmas (yeah right honest ). I fail to see why these changes are being forced apon us now, when they are not needed and will just overly complicate the delivery of tech 2 and other more needed features like alliances and terrotorial control.
The baseline problem atm with eve, is that people have NO reason to fight. Corps own NOTHING that can be taken from them by force of arms, nor do any of the ingame alliances. If these alliances/corps had to fight or loose their terrotory/other assets, you can BET your ass that they'd be cramming everyone they could get into frigates/cruisers to help defend their stuff. THIS is the way to achieve mixed fleets, not by forcing it through stupidly retarded gameplay nerfing (yeah honestly because I can REALLY imagine the huge battleships takeing longer to lock something up than a mining frigate, yeah right BATTLESHIPS the clue is in the name gettit?).
Well anyway thats my 6.5cents worth of spiel, if you disagree with it you are wrong k?
