So after two and a bit years playing eve, I realised that there were other online games out there. I got World of Warcraft for Christmas and I must say its a great divertion from Eve.
Anyone else play this game, and if so, how does it affect your Eve time?

I played wow for about 5 months after I became a SWG refugee.
Wow is fun, but only part of the time. 0-60 is a grind, but its a decent grind, with lots to see and do along the way.
The problem with wow is there isn't any purpose to the game. You can't change the game in any way. You just collect your gear and then go collect more gear - or participate in meaningless pvp. Bragging rights is the only purpose you have to do anything. It gets really mundane after a few months.
It's definatly a game to experience though, enjoy.

I've been having a break whilst long skills train and have been playing Rappelz instead, a free to play game a bit like WoW,
Whilst I found it pretty good for the first few days, once I got to level32, I was left thinking that all the game involved was going round and bashing monsters of one description or other. I guess it was interesting to kill stuff 17 levels higher than the character i was playing and to annoy everyone on vent talking about my armor tanking Holy Warrior who drank cap boosters and which needed a cleric to remote rep him, and confusing everyone by talking about buying stuff with ISk.
Eve is like a new girlfriend - you know its going down at some point, its just when and for how long. |

Edited by: Raem Civrie on 07/01/2007 22:09:10 WoW is a pretty good diversion from EVE, mostly because you can jump in and out of it. Doesn't have the same tendency to create strong obligations like EVE. And it isn't EQ2.
The whole "EITHER OR" mindset of so many EVE players when it comes to WoW is a bit childish. Like you can't enjoy both EVE and WoW at the same time (or in alternating doses. A couple of months of EVE, couple of months of WoW). Stops ya from burning out on EVE, for one. ----

wow will consume and destroy your life. I quit a year ago, sense then I have lost 70lbs, made 20k more a year in rl work and spend a lot more time with my friends and Family. Eve has a great leveling system imo. Casual friendly! |

WoW is like that hot eighteen year old blonde. Fun to play around with but probably not somebody you'll have a long, fulfilling relationship with. Well, maybe you'll see this screen soon enough and come back to the fold. ___________________

You're kidding, right?
World of Warcraft is the most boring MMORPG I've played in my life with the exception of Maple Story.
I would go so far to say that Runescape is more exciting than WoW.

That's really saying something.
Personally, I enjoyed WoW while I played it, but I'd never tried Eve. Eve is far more fulfilling, as an ealier post said.

World of Warcraft 2142:
In World of Warcraft 2142™, players choose to fight for one of two military superpowers - the Alliance or the newly reformed Horde -in an epic battle for survival. Armed with a devastating arsenal of gnome crafted weaponry, including crossbows, mind control devices and explosives, players will also take control of the most lethal mounts known to man. Massive Kodos wage fierce combat on the ground, while futuristic nether drakes rule the skies. When taking on these new fantasic mounts players will need to use their wits and an arsenal of new gnome-tech countermeasures like flares, grenades and rocket boots to level the playing field. ___________________

See i can understand why people would be entertained by wow prior to playing EVE. However after putting in some quality time into EVE i can't even begin to comprehend how wow can still be enjoyable, it's just so static, cookie cutter and boring.

WoW is pretty sweet for what it is. the problem i have with it and other mmos is that after playing it 2 years i don't have any sort of lasting accomplishment that makes my character stand out, especially after the expansion comes out. EVE is way more variable and with the skill training system you still have some edge on the competition as a reward for specializing and dedicating time to your character. ---- Would you like some cries with your whaaamburger? |

True that, but I can see how it could be an enjoyable game even so. Sometimes you just want to turn the brain off and veg in front of something. WoW is certainly good for that.

WoW was great for a while. The pve stuff is pretty much second to none.
0-60 was no where near a grind, it was mostly fun
The problem was on hitting 60, Blizz decided that all 60+ content required a mass amount of people taking a mass amount of time to do raids so I quit DAoC kicked the raid stuffing out of me and that has far far more level grind than WoW
WoW pvp was fun but fast paced and pointless.
Now, if Blizz fixed the 60, now 70+ content to allow solo and single groups to compete against the mass raid in terms of rewards, then they would have kept a hell of alot more of their subscribers...
Caldari: Don't have to worry about transversal, falloff/optimal, cap, tracking, how your damage type is being tanked, ship speed, the direction you are moving... etc. Easy Mode w00t!! |

Ive been playing Everquest II and Eve pretty much at the same time. I Do dabble in Wow but thE similarities to DAoC in the endgame are pretty much the same. Get to 60, get all the gear, and PvP in the same boring static battlegrounds day in and day out or try to find the non existant PvP in the gameworld or the constant zergirrific hell that is Hillsbrad foothills. Pretty much boring, I will give WoW credit for excellent game based on their Warcraft world, but it does get old quickly. I prefer everquest II. More content and more quests with multiple steps that can quickly consume time. But at the end of the day, all the games have the grinds, it just all depends on which grind you like best.

WoW was a lot of fun for about 6 months. Once you've made a charcter of every class and played them all to 20 (2 weeks), you can pick one and play them to 60. Then it becomes a question of how much grinding you want in your diet....
Things to like about WoW...
It's simple. You can run around and kill stuff without any consequences, because there's almost NO death penalty. It has pretty graphics, provided you don't want realism. You have hundreds of servers to choose from, so if you annoy people, there are lots of places to run to. Quests hold your hand every step of the way.
Things to hate about WoW...
It's simple. There are no consequences to dying, so dying is a valid mechanic to finish quests (see corpse jumping). There are hundreds of servers, so you'll never find all your friends in ONE place. Quests hold your hand every step of the way. You grind from 1 to 60, so that you can grind away at the same instances for those rare drops, or so you can grind away at Battlegrounds PvP for warlord gear. Nothing in WoW is NOT a grind. Male night elf death animations are the most pathetic ever devised for any computer game.... seriously. Average mental age of WoW players appears to be about 8 years old. Train up your 133t 5p37k V skill!
