I'm curious how CCP comes up with these ideas, and who makes the final decision regarding what to use or not use.
Of course i'm not in any position to be directly affected, just curious who is it that decides what to work on I guess. Does CSM have a say in the matter? capital changes: AOE is something we've had for a long time. Doomsdays used to be aoe and do ~70k damage out to 200km or something like that. it basically wasn't fun at all. giant freaking laser beam doomsdays sound pretty cool and give titans something to do. the current super damage single target cap only doomsday currently on titans is interesting but rather limiting. The new doomsdays seem like a decent mix of the two ideas. Will be interesting seeing new titan pilots learn to aim the things too
citadels and other structures are a pretty damn good example of ccp giving us a feature to build better sandcastles, and getting players to develop parts of space. maybe the whole asset protection thing goes a little too far, but over all looks interesting.

Pike, Sickle, Hand of God, Capacitor Overload, for one ship looks a lot to me like giving kids toys to play with. Add on SP purchase, character bazarre, dual skill training, and Eve looks like a sandbox MMO that is evolving to a theme-park MMO. |

Shouldn't you be complaining about Tributes AKA daily quests instead? Since those are actually a thing directly inspired by themepark MMOs. I think if they were just making them AOE again, people wouldn't care much. It's the weird unique mechanics behind each one which alter the core of the battle mechanics when they are involved.

Keep in mind it wasn't my intentions to flame the changes, I was simply curious about who has a say in making these changes because there are a wide variety of different people playing this game with many different opinions. Since the OP I have made many discoveries and I appreciate everybody who has responded - thank you! |

Yet again, you don't seem to understand what a themepark MMO is. To make EVE a themepark, the devs would force you to stop flying frigates when you are able to fly cruisers. They would prevent you from flying caldari if you rolled minmitar.
More tools given at the same time in no way makes something less of a sandbox. |

And how does "telling" somebody "you don't understand" make a sandbox MMO? |

How does throwing around the word themepark without knowing what it means make for a constructive thread? |

Because I have an opinion on a topic and I would like to learn more. I specifically want to know who has a say on changes being made, regardless of "why" I believe what I do.

Apparently the shape of the volume of space affected by an AOE is somehow related to whether a game is a sandbox or a themepark? |

That could be it - cause in the video I saw it looked like a big red "thing" sweeping space around the ship. |

So to summarize: 1. You don't fly Capitals 2. You don't need to fly capitals for any reason 3. You don't know how capital combat works (Evident by your posts) 4. You dislike the new options for capitals and are arguing till blue in the face about them
Analysis: You are ranting about things you don't understand and throwing around buzzwords intending to inflame. The fact you clearly have no part in this gameplay. Your killboard shows you are either an industrialist or more likely, an alt.
I dub thee: TROLL and do decalre
Daerrol was here before the Locke
Edit: You should look up what a Sandbox vs Themepark MMO is. These changes, while maybe good maybe bad, do not even touch upon that dichotomy and are in fact attempting to make it more sandbox by putting counter play to titans besides more Supercaps than the enemy has. |

tl;dr this stupid topic.
1) The Executive Producer, currently CCP Seagull (the savior is eve, oh may she reign long) sets the general tone and direction of eve. With inpust from the associtate producers. These people take the general direction and pass then down to the dev teams which them pick something to work on, come put with a plan which is kicked back up the chain to make sure it still fit xin with the general idea and they have the money to do it and then they work on it.
EP sets broad goals, teams work on little chunks of broad goals.
If you want to *****, talk to seagul or the team that is working on each aspect, which you can find in that teams blogs.
2) the CSM has ZERO power. None, noda, zip, zero, ziltch. The CSM is a focus group or an Advisory council. It makes it easier to get condensed feed back then trying to sort though thouseds of topics.
All the above is business 101. Depending on how the EP works, they could be micro managing every detail, or saying 'we are going to change capitals and pos with the goal of going to new space, someone work on this.' and the teams take that and run with it. one will work on caps, one pos', and one the new spoace.
Reported for.. ranting i guess

You give me an actual answer to the question, and then report the thread for ranting. A CSM who responded to the thread, could have given a productive response, and instead threw out some sarcasm (after which I discover the CSM forum). If anything this thread shows just how unproductive the Eve community can be - all of which also suggests Eve Online is slowly evolving into a theme-park MMO.

After 6 years of game play I decided to ask on the forums, because it "could be" more efficient than google. Is it possible people have "adopted" a method of game play in Eve and want other players to conform, or they are wrong? (that would suggest a theme-park MMO as well) |

I actually like the direction of the changes and they appear anything but theme park to me.
One of the common complaints about nullsec fleet warfare in recent years, has been the rise of the F1 brigade. Particularly in the Ishtar meta, land on grid, drop sentries, assist drones, anchor on FC and go semi-AFK. Other fleet doctrines have had similar approaches, where the bulk of the work in the fleet is being done by the FC and most of the fleet is less skilled.
CCP have been on a path of promoting more individual piloting and advantage to skilled pilots and these changes feel like they will support that.
With these doomsdays, pilots that aren't aware o what is happening and who aren't ready to respond individually to signs of a doomsday effect, are going to be hit. Fleets that have pilots ready to respond, to break away from their anchor to avoid a doomsday and then reform, who are maintaining awareness of what is happening in the fight, those are the fleets that will benefit most from these changes. That seems like a good thing, not bad.

This won't get a lock. Any discussion is a good discussion.
Accusing EVE of becoming a "theme park game" at this juncture, is supremely ridiculous. It is done by people under the pretense they'll be seen as gaming experts by tossing jargon around.
