The changes to Capitals and the Citadels are a little bizarre. AOE and a giant beam that sweeps the area causing damage, looks too much like what you would find in a theme park MMO. What's next, a Fedo Unicorn that we can ride in station?
I'm curious how CCP comes up with these ideas, and who makes the final decision regarding what to use or not use.
Of course i'm not in any position to be directly affected, just curious who is it that decides what to work on I guess. Does CSM have a say in the matter? |

It's actually a valid question. I pay for the subscription to play this game. Then CCP makes changes that suggests giving EVE the same appearance of a different game. |

Here I used to have a sig of our old Camper in space. Now it is disregarded as being the wrong format.
Looking out the window I see one thing: Nothing wrong with the format of our Camper! Silly CCP......

How they come up with ideas? They have these people that call Developers. Teams of them, as a matter of fact.
Does CSM have a say? Yes and no. We see some things before you do an give our reactions to them, some positively and some negatively. Whether they choose to listen is up to CCP. Me? I like the AOE weapons and the 'backhand of God'.
Not in favour of the ridable Fedo, though. Have you SEEN those things?

I'm thinking the Devs are between the Game designer and CSM/Forums? I don't fly Capitals, no need to, can't imagine anybody having a reason for an AOE, or "lightsaber". So very curious right now where/how these people get their ideas.

AOE and a beam slicing - at same time. Why? What was the problem to solve, or what is desired result? Resembles a theme-park because of all the options you find in a theme-park to keep your attention instead of watching you wander away to a different theme-park. |

A role for titans other than just bridging?
A way to nerf titans EHP and damage, but increase their utility?

Grouping ideas together (along with carrier changes, and citadels) suggests a new ride rather than more options/tools (a decent sized "group" of ideas rather than options/tools) - theme-park mmo versus sandbox. It looks really weird. I guess it makes sense though with all the new ships, and players asking for more. |

OK, so you don't know what a themepark game is then. Themepark games force you to follow specific paths. They don't give you the option to deviate from whatever path the developers intended. Giving the option of a new DD for titans in no way forces you to do anything with it in game.
If EVE were a themepark game, I would be forced to use AOE DD's to be successful in the game, as the developers would be forcing me down that path. Given my current training plan will keep me from even flying ANY capital ship for a solid few years (at minimum), this is not a themepark.
The devs are literally just giving more tools to us in game. No one is forced to use them by any means. |

Yes. Giving and forcing are different. Im curious who has a say what the devs decide to "give us". Sandbox and theme-park are different - but when devs decide to lump a bunch of new features, I decided to ask about them - because in my opinion, it is starting to look like a theme-park mmo. Sort of a "thank God CCP doesn't do what those other people are doing....but then, why are they making the decisions they are......"
So once again, who has a say in the matter, the CSM - because FYI that is basically what I am trying to ask. |

So @ 7:48 is the reason WHY I am asking. Used to watch that video every day - that was before EVE was nerfed/buffed to what it is today........ the game is still awesome, just asking. That video was a lot better, and more clear, before the video was nerfed due to copyrights. Eve being what it is, almost tempted to find out how much it would take to return the video to what it was with the audio it had.
But yea, the new stuff coming out, and the way they're doing it, makes me wonder who has a say in the matter besides the DEVs drawing from a hat. |

As an example, one-shotting versus hitting a button, before focus fire. The changes next spring suggest removing the intricacies involved, in order to accomplish a goal - hence "theme-park". |

I personally don't want to have anything to do with theme-park MMOs. The thought of AOE "flying through space" doesn't make sense when looking at what other people are using in the theme-park MMOs.
However I can see how a DD may cause AOE. The Valkyrie video shows that to us: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZ4gpjwJa08 (@ 3:05). Placing any kind of AOE type weapon on a ship, proactively for that reason, suggests the theme-park mentality. In my opinion it is a fine line that needs to be looked at - like Eve players do. |

Of course i'm not in any position to be directly affected, just curious who is it that decides what to work on I guess. Does CSM have a say in the matter? capital changes: AOE is something we've had for a long time. Doomsdays used to be aoe and do ~70k damage out to 200km or something like that. it basically wasn't fun at all. giant freaking laser beam doomsdays sound pretty cool and give titans something to do. the current super damage single target cap only doomsday currently on titans is interesting but rather limiting. The new doomsdays seem like a decent mix of the two ideas. Will be interesting seeing new titan pilots learn to aim the things too
citadels and other structures are a pretty damn good example of ccp giving us a feature to build better sandcastles, and getting players to develop parts of space. maybe the whole asset protection thing goes a little too far, but over all looks interesting.

Yet again, you don't seem to understand what a themepark MMO is. To make EVE a themepark, the devs would force you to stop flying frigates when you are able to fly cruisers. They would prevent you from flying caldari if you rolled minmitar.
More tools given at the same time in no way makes something less of a sandbox. |

tl;dr this stupid topic.
1) The Executive Producer, currently CCP Seagull (the savior is eve, oh may she reign long) sets the general tone and direction of eve. With inpust from the associtate producers. These people take the general direction and pass then down to the dev teams which them pick something to work on, come put with a plan which is kicked back up the chain to make sure it still fit xin with the general idea and they have the money to do it and then they work on it.
EP sets broad goals, teams work on little chunks of broad goals.
If you want to *****, talk to seagul or the team that is working on each aspect, which you can find in that teams blogs.
2) the CSM has ZERO power. None, noda, zip, zero, ziltch. The CSM is a focus group or an Advisory council. It makes it easier to get condensed feed back then trying to sort though thouseds of topics.
All the above is business 101. Depending on how the EP works, they could be micro managing every detail, or saying 'we are going to change capitals and pos with the goal of going to new space, someone work on this.' and the teams take that and run with it. one will work on caps, one pos', and one the new spoace.

You give me an actual answer to the question, and then report the thread for ranting. A CSM who responded to the thread, could have given a productive response, and instead threw out some sarcasm (after which I discover the CSM forum). If anything this thread shows just how unproductive the Eve community can be - all of which also suggests Eve Online is slowly evolving into a theme-park MMO.

After 6 years of game play I decided to ask on the forums, because it "could be" more efficient than google. Is it possible people have "adopted" a method of game play in Eve and want other players to conform, or they are wrong? (that would suggest a theme-park MMO as well) |

I actually like the direction of the changes and they appear anything but theme park to me.
One of the common complaints about nullsec fleet warfare in recent years, has been the rise of the F1 brigade. Particularly in the Ishtar meta, land on grid, drop sentries, assist drones, anchor on FC and go semi-AFK. Other fleet doctrines have had similar approaches, where the bulk of the work in the fleet is being done by the FC and most of the fleet is less skilled.
CCP have been on a path of promoting more individual piloting and advantage to skilled pilots and these changes feel like they will support that.
With these doomsdays, pilots that aren't aware o what is happening and who aren't ready to respond individually to signs of a doomsday effect, are going to be hit. Fleets that have pilots ready to respond, to break away from their anchor to avoid a doomsday and then reform, who are maintaining awareness of what is happening in the fight, those are the fleets that will benefit most from these changes. That seems like a good thing, not bad.

This won't get a lock. Any discussion is a good discussion.
Accusing EVE of becoming a "theme park game" at this juncture, is supremely ridiculous. It is done by people under the pretense they'll be seen as gaming experts by tossing jargon around.
