I am finally training salvaging as a skill and i was thinking what kind of ships everybody uses..
I was thinking of using a inquisitor for instead of an industrial for 3 reasons: 1) Better Speed. 2) There isn't much point of having cargo space in the thousants if u dont use it (don't know how much cargo space loot from salvaging takes but i guess some hundred's of m3). 3) It has 4 high slots so i can fit 2 Tractor beams and 2 Salvaging Modules cutting time in half just for salvaging from an industrial.
So i ll strap on an afterburner/mwd and expanded cargohold and its good to go
Any comments about this fitting? I intend to use it after i clear missions to scoop up loot and salvage (I currently do lvl 3 missions so i guess the cargo space will be ok) and i can get around 500 cargo space with it from basic expanders

I use a vexor with 4 salvagers, 1 tractorbeam, AB, med extender, shield booster, signal booster and a mix of nanos and istabs for highsec belt salvage (I zoom around and clean out other ppls rat wrecks) and use the drones for the occasional rat. Some ppl have mentioned the destroyer as an excellent platform for salvaging but I disagree since it has cap issues.

Brutix is great salvage ship.
High: 3x Tractor 4x Salvager
Mid: 1x 10mn AB-II 3x What ever you want (Shield tank?)
Low: 5x Cargo EXP (950+ m3 space)

I use an Ishtar with 2x tractor 3x salvager. That way you can actually kill things so you can salvage them. Like do certain lvl 3 missions and just rake in the parts.

When using a Gallente cruiser, I'd go for a Exquoror. 4 higs & cargo bonus, so it's nice and easy. I'm using a Megathron for salvaging 4/4 in highs, MWD, cap rechargers, expanders and Nanos. 1500 m3 loot at 134m/s (over 1000 m/s with MWD). I can clean out most lvl4 mission in one go, and I have a backup BS avaible, if the mission is not suited for my Domi (drones aggro and stuff)

As long as you're not expecting hostiles, a destroyer makes a great salvage vessel....3x tractors and 4x salvagers on my Cormorant, almost frigate speed, plus it's reasonably good size cargo make things reasonably easy.

I use an Exquoror, 4 salvagers in high, nanos in low and and AB. I'm hoping that once I get to use MWDs that I can stick enough cap recharge boosts on to run an MWD indefinitely.
One thing I found with mission looting before salvaging came in was that my playstyle (rails + keep at range) means that the loot is dropped in a long line instead of a blob. This means that I wanted decent speed to move around, and because this is over 500m/s currently a tractor beam isn't any use for me. And thats before considering the missions that place the NPC groups some distance from each other, meaning more travel.
So I use the 4 salvagers. I try to position myself with multiple wrecks in salvage range, but this isn't always possible (especially if they still have loot in them). If I can get multiple in range I will split the salvagers between them, but otherwise I will run all 4 on the one wreck. -----------------

I use an exequror because destroyer dont have enough cargo and especially cap. Even with ~1500m¦ cargo I have to jump out mutliple times on some missions (lvl4). I use 2 tractors and 2 salvager so I can pull 2 cans behind me while running to the third. One has both salvagers on it while the other is in waiting.

If doing large lvl4s I do the mission, then go back with an exeq to loot
4 tractors
HS8 MWD med cap battery cap re cap re
3 named expanders with a sec container in hold to get even more room
I try to go in a straight line through the miss as much as poss with the other cans in clumps
then I come back with a catalyst
8 salvagers (norm use in groups of 2 on targets)
1mn MWD small cap battery I think
3 cap relays
had no cap problems from what I remember

Typhoon:
4 Tractor Beam 4 Salvager I
100mn AB II Slot 2 (who cares) Slot 3 (who cares) Slot 4 (who cares)
Signal Amplifier II (makes me able to lock 8 targets with this ship)
3 Partial Hull Expanded Cargohold (because I had them handy, gives over 1100m3 cargo space)
2 D-Type Nanofibre 1 D-Type Inertial Stabilizer
Not to fast, not too slow and you can drag 4 cans behind you as you move to the next cluster of cans and salvage each of them at the same time.
I had a similair setup in a Catalyst but found out it lacked cargo-space so I upgraded to a Phoon.

A destroyer is a great salvager: many slots for tractors and salvagers, fit a AB, plenty of cargo, if you wish add an extender or 2. I cant imagine anyone going salvaging with a fightingship: you usually go salvaging after the fight, so you need to change ships. Or is there anyone out there who goes hunting and has a slot or 2 for salvaging mods...?

I like domi more. 2 tractor, 4 salvage. 100mn microwarpdrive, 4 cap recharge 3 expanded cargo 2 inertial stabs 1 nanofiber 1 large rep
With your phoon, have your tried 2 inertial stabs and 1 nanofiber? I think that would be faster. Also, why the AB instead of microwarp?

I second (or is it 3rd or 4th?) the Destroyer post. I loot and salvage simultaneously all of my level 4 missions in my Cormorant.
Setup:
Hislots 5x TB 3x Salvager I (by the way, running all 3 on a wreck at one time seems to work faster)
Midslots 1x 1MN AB II (400m/s) 2x Cap Recharger
Lowslot 1x Expanded Cargo II
Rigs 3x Cargo Optimization (15% increase per with a drawback of armor strength)
757m3 cargo space, fast and cap never runs out. Works like a charm and very fast.

Thrasher... 6x salvager, 2x tractor (possibly going 5/3) AB, 2 cap rechargers 2 cargo expanders
I never have any issues with cap and aslong as I can tractor the wrecks I can work my way through loads of wrecks in sort order. The only real problem I have is cargo space, but atm I just jet can all the loot and only hold on to the rig peices then stash those once I get about 500m3 (I just fly alliance space salvaging left over wrecks and such when I'm board :P )

I'm a big fan of using a destroyer to clean up the wrecks after a fight. They're small and fast and can be equipped to have decent cargo space. I always equip a MWD for cleaning belts in one of the mid slots. Good for quickly closing the gap between wreck clusters. A cruiser sized AB should fit for complexes where the MWD doesn't work.
In complexes or missions, having another account with an industrial can help haul, but are not necessary. You can always tractor a jetcan around for extra storage and come back later with an industrial.
Here is a comparison of the four racial destroyers:
Amarr: Coercer Hi: 8, Med: 1, Low: 4, Vel: 220 m/s, Cargo: 300 m3 With expander 1s: 180 m/s, 580m3 With nanofibers: 300 m/s
Caldari: Commorant Hi: 8, Med: 4, Low: 1, Vel: 210 m/s, Cargo: 450 m3 With expander 1s: 200 m/s, 531 m3 With nanofibers: 230 m/s
Gallente: Catalyst Hi: 8, Med: 2, Low: 3, Vel: 225 m/s, Cargo: 400 m3 With expander 1s: 195 m/s, 656 m3 With nanofibers: 285 m/s
Minmatar: Thrasher Hi: 8, Med: 3, Low: 2, Vel: 240 m/s, Cargo: 400 m3 With expander 1s: 220 m/s, 556 m3 With nanofibers: 280 m/s
I like the catalyst for belts. It can be set up for the largest cargo space, but will have trouble with more than four salvagers runnings at once with only one mid-slot dedicated to capacitor recharge.
In a complex or after a mission, the Commorant has the capacitor staying power to run up to six salvagers with three midslots for capacitor recharge.
You'll have to play with your high slot layout. I've had good results with 3 tractors / 5 salvagers. There does not seem to be a stacking penalty for using multiple salvagers on the same ship atm. I'll usually work on two ships at once, three salvagers on a battleship, and two on anything smaller, while tractoring in another.

Yep. I have a salvager and a tractor on my ratting Domi. It isn't fast, but you don't have to bother with switching ships. The salvager replaced a Prototype Dual 250. With the extra grid I replaced the 100ABII with a 100MWDII.
Dedicated salvage ship is a Catalyst though the cargo cruiser would work well too.

Well, I've been ratting in .3 space with 4 x 150MM Tech II railguns and a salvager on my Thorax...but that's kinda suboptimal, I have to admit. Think I'll try the destroyer idea. Love those 8 high slots on the Catalyst.

I was using a harbinger with 4 tractors and 4 salvagers for a while to loot and salvage L4's. I switched back to an Exequoror with 2 tractors and 2 salvagers.
Exeq is cheap and replaceable, warps fast and moves fast, with a big cargo bay. I can loot 97% or so from the missions, on average. Sometimes I have to come back to fill up again but usually I trash the junk to make space for more.
Harbinger is wasted and slow as a looter, and a bigger loss if a WT wacks me at a gate.
I found the total time I was spending with either ship was about the same. I don't really see the point in using a destroyer with 8 slots to loot L4's - there's just not enough room in cargo for nearly 1000m3 of cargo.
Recently I added 2 Salvage Tackle rigs to the exeq, though I haven't noticed a large difference in looting speed. I will add one more to fill it up and see how that goes. Barrier Solo, CEO, INSM, ISS Join us! http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadid=402528 |

Commorant - used for cleaning up after Lvl 4 missions
Hislots x4 TB's x4 Salvager I (x5 & x3 works, depends on mission your salvaging)
Midslots x1 1MN AB II x1 Cap Recharger II's (can run x2 T1's if you like)
Lowslot x1 Expanded Cargo II
Rigs x2 Salvage Tackle I (using multiple salvagers per wreck dosn't help, Rigs improve 'changes' and therefore time and/or qty) x1 Cargo Optimization (never filled hold yet while running solo, maybe 3 salvagers??)
Started off using a Drake cos it was lying around ,but being sensible, this is by far the most cost effective solution for mission runners. Eight Hislots and a good sized hold are key.
If running as 'garbage collector' behind a killer, with this setup you have time to clear an area and unload before the next stage is complete.

Hurricane:
Hi: 3x TB, 5x Salvager I Med: MWD/AB, Shield Booster, Sensor Booster, Cap Recharger Low: 3-6 Cargo expanders, 1-3 Nano/Inertia Large Secure Container in cargohold
Since some of the missions are 80-100km across and cans do spread out, using MWD is actually not a bad idea. Just throttle it or fly to a big pile of wrecks and start tractoring while you sit still. Empty wrecks should only be tractored to within 5km since duration of TB is 5s. Deactivate when within range. Use 1-3 Salvager on each wreck depending on how many wrecks you have in range. For missions without salvage, I use an Exequror with 4 TBs, AB, SB, SB, 3x cargo expanders and 2x LSC. -----

its funny you got all these ships. The commorant cost 2 mill. a Domi cost 100m. Why they hell would you spend so much money on a salvage rig? When the cheaper setup accually will do the job at the fraction of the price

Well i've just built myself a Drake for salvaging and looting. I'm looting belt rats exclusively, based in 0.0.
My current layout is 4 TB/ 4 Salvagers 2 Large extender II's/2 Hardeners/ Signal Booster/MWD 3 named expanders + 1 nano
That gives me about 600m/s with the MWD which only ever needs to be on briefly to get in range of clumps. I've also bought myself some rigs but haven't fitted them yet. I'm hoping it will speed up the process significantly. ** ** ** ** ** **
