Is there a status update on the EvE-Lite client. I have been delaying buying a new phone, since I wanted to get a smart phone that was compatible with EvE-Lite. But with Apple releasing the iPhone, it is... getting hard to wait. Is there any update at all, if not an eta, a list of guaranteed compatible phones?
Hell, if developing it is a pain, just make an XML-RPC (like SOAP) for it availible and let us idle coders whip up a smart phone app.

one of CCPs better PR annoucements - the problem is they make a lot of noise but follow thro and delivery are lame delayed and dodgy - a bit like the lag everyone is having. Lots of noise but very little in the way of overall imrpovement
anyway i hope to see eve-lite soon but tbh forget about it until they need a big PR annoucement at some game show to keep emselves in the limelight

The EVE-Lite client started out at the University of Reykjavik as a project for a couple students in what I believe was their final term. They decided to pursue careers with other companies, but left the code for the client with CCP. I do know a position for Mobile Developer was on the CCP Jobs page for a number of months, but it is no longer listed. I will investigate the status of the project and post an update when I have more information.

Making an XML-RPC Service available for us would be fantastic from the players perspective. Hell, I probably would be one of the first to create an application for my PDA.
But CCP stated many times that they want the players to login to the game. Having the skill management available through a XML-RPC service would result in automatic training switching tools. Probably worse things if they make market transactions available trough a service.
I guess the thing is to just give enough control over EVE to make EVE-Lite services useful, but still need the full client for 99% of the tasks to do in EVE.
I would also love to test and give feedback to CCP if they ever make an EVE Lite Client available as I work in a company that writes software for PDAs and embedded devices. |

iPhone runs a stripped down OSX from what I've heard... and considering that the full EVE client isn't available for OSX I'd be surprised if the mobile version ever is.

The iPhone will run Cocoa so if CCP would just write a Mac version of Eve, they wouldnt need to do a mobile version. :)

Uhh last I read the iPhone isn't coming out for about 5-6 months still. So if you are interested in it hasn't it suddenly become easier to wait?

right... but before the phone was announced, I was happy with my crappy crappy free phone that I got for working here (Cingular). Makes calls and that is it. But with the iPhone I am actually looking forward to a smart phone, to something other than just a bit of plastic to make calls with.

I believe Apple have an agreement with Cisco, which enables them to use the iPhone name.

Hate to say it but the iPhone is not going to allow other applications to be installed onto it so it would have to be say a website or something like that for you to be able to change skills using it. He said it in the keynote or i read it somewhere I will try and find it again though.

Janks still remembers seeing that on your phone at E3!
Find out for us, for Janks has the Cingular 8125, the 'was' hippest phone for all the space geeks... then the iPod phone was announced. Oh well, it is still years behind the technology on the other side of the world.

Cisco foolishly just trademarked the word "iPhone", which 1.) Apple can just call it the iTelly and lawsuit is dropped or 2.) They can go to court and show Cisco's main interst isn't iAnything, Apple has that inheret trademark for years.
It won't slow down the phones release.

Heh heh...not anymore. See, Apple and Cisco we're negotiating about it but the negotiations we're on-going when Apple announced their iPhone. Due to this Cisco responded with an army of lawyers and as you may guess this may delay the entire thing. Read your local news medias for more info.

Cisco actually had the name iPhone many (7, I believe) years before the first iPod was released.
BTW, the iPhone will NOT be able to run third-party applications, so don't hold your breath for this, unless somebody creates a web-based interface that is. ------- My posts reflect my own personal views. I'm in this alliance for the fun, not for forum wars. |

Actually, Cisco didn't trademark iPhone, it was an existing trademark of a company they took over. Their claim to the trademark is perfectly valid as iPhone products are still available.
Point is, Apple = lots of money, and Cisco ain't daft.

Apple has a habit of appropriating trademarks that don't belong to them. It goes back to the very beginning of Apple, when they had to reach a settlement with the Beatles' Apple Corps. Which is all very amusing, seeing how Apple aggressively pursues litigation against anyone they think is infringing on their own trademarks.

To change skills when you are not at a computer? when you are at the beach, at work, school, on a date, at the movies, on the toilet, visiting grandma, in the hospital, at the bar, in the store, when your computer blows up, during a power outage, etc. etc. etc....
I think it would be very useful, I have a Dell axim x51v.. so hopefully they make the client work with windows mobile.
