Seriously, The Assault has like 120KM to the first gate. Pirate Slaughter is like 60KM or so to each gate...why must the missions have such long treks to the gates? What is the purpose other than making the mission take far longer than it would otherwise? =\

Edited by: Damian Vilsalant on 10/01/2007 10:58:42 i also find this the lamest thing in a long time... pure time sink that really slows down the game play to a near halt... i kill all the NPCs and then i go afk for like 20 min until i finally reach the goddamn gate. the only real effect it has on game play is that most ppl try to reject all the new missions. the only other effect that comes to mind is the fact that all the spawns exist much longer on the server.
please change this in the next patch (at least for lvl3s and 4s which most ppl do with slow ships). |

completely agree with damian here. on some mission it seems the only challenge is to reach the gate before getting to bored and ctrl-q. like on massive attack.. 90k to the first gate while shooting omg!!!! 5 cruisers and 11 frigates! Really like some of the new missions though, the blockade is nice:)

As said before it's just annoying timesink to make you look at gate getting slowly closer when you are out of NPC's. I even had to squeeze local nanofibre in my regular Raven setup bcos of those distances (Dont have enough power nor CPU left to fit afterburner with launchers and rig's)

- Use afterburner and it will go a bit quicker. - ... - OH, you don't wan't to spoil your shield-tank? Use a Armor tank! - ... - What? Armor-tank doesn't work well on Raven? Well, use another ship then! As an example: Hyperion can tank alot, have an AB running and fit eight large guns. - .

I'm quite comfortable with the 5 slot tank (no faction items) of my Raven. The only time I removed the AB from my Raven was the first time I did the Zazzmatazz mission, was overkill, now-a-days I do that mission also in gank mode.
Maybe the the OP just needs to work on his skills, those that reside in his character sheet and those he has between his ears.

I've got to agree that trend towards adding long treks between gates is a bit of a pain, but it has it's advantages if your mission is in lowsec, becaise at least you've got time to spot them on the scanner, or if they do warp in on the same section you're in, then changes are, you'll be far away enough from the warp in point for it to make it pointless.
I'd prefer the long trek missions to be fewer though. Maybe make the gates closer together, but lock them if any NPC's are left in the zone?

Train Navigation Skills
I'm really suprised by how many people just assume that big ships are slow and neglect these skills.

I can think of several reasons ccp did it.
If you have to warp out then its a bit of punishment.
If you get probed the pirate has to do a bit of travel and your not likely to be at warp in spot so you can just decamp.
But in general its not to big a deal just set course for gate and kill everything. I usually find myself arriving at next gate by the time ive killed everything.
Some missions it pays to kill the first agro group such as the level 4 mordu.

Poor game design and devs who consider isk vs time to be more important than "fun". They're not even trying anymore. And whats with the wall sections? millions of wall sections. Brilliant, lets add tiny pieces of wall that ****s up everyones overview hooray! Remove large collidable object you say? but that removes loot structures and mission objectives too?
Rant aside, missions suck and anyone who plays eve for missions needs a headexam.
