Edited by: KIAHicks on 03/12/2003 00:30:54 Well I think this solves a lot of the current problems. It doesn't solve all, and in some cases the problem just changes to a different method for the same problem.
But it does fix what my biggest complaint was, jump in lag. Its not the camping that annoyed me, it was the not been able to get a chance to active modules that would save your life. This fixes this. At least from a jump in perspective.
I for one will be making a 2nd copy of eve and heading to choas to help work out the bugs on this one :) I think the system is not perfect, but a huge improvement, and a rather elegent solution to the lag problem without introducing the chance of client size hacks.

Edited by: KIAHicks on 03/12/2003 00:37:13 Edited by: KIAHicks on 03/12/2003 00:35:15 out of intrest will there be any solution to warp in lag. For example a gourp of 6 are lag camping a gate in new caldari. you jump into the system and come out at a gate without pirates. You plan to attack the piraets with your fleet, you warp to the pirates and have no invuln warp timer coming out of warp so lag and die.
or will you only appear from warp with the same conditions as from a jump in?
PS I know this solves jip lag, and I'm really looking forward to seeing how it plays out :) I'm just intrested to know if warp in lag has been considered as part of the solution or will be looked into independantly.

The Carebears were already LOOSING with the current situation and JIP camping. It looks like CCP is giving them half a chance now.
were they? hm. if you say so...
With JIP camping how it is currently, everyone is a loser. The pirates/alliances that are camping get board... the players who jump in are 100% dead all the time through lag..
Its just a no win situation all around.
With the changes on chaos. Jump in camping occurs at stargates. Also 4 ships camping a jump in, may now be attacked by 4 equal ships coming to remove them. Whereas with the old system those 4 would not risk their ships as the first person to jump would die by lag.
Now you will get a chance to activate modules and defend yourself.
Much fairer imo.

Quote: A problem with the new warping is that gang warps are now ragged. [SNIP] Perhaps allow a way that a gang can enter warp at once.
True, it would require an option for all ships to gang warp at the speed of the slowest ship.
That is assuming ships could vary their warp speed (I mean in RP theory as opposed to programming wise)
If there is no RP game reason for ships been able to vary their warp speeds, then allowing options for fleets to gang warp at the slowest ships speed would solve the problem.
It would also allow gangs to form with the faster ships in the first gang, the slower in the second. The slower set off first then the faster, making even gang warping a little more tactical.

Chandra: Excellent decision.. Aside from increasing the possibility of pvp, it will also increase travel time, which will hopefully affect market prices and maybe even make people willing to pay for currior missions.....
I think having travel take a long time (as in long in REAL time) it makes the decisions to deploy forces a lot more tactical. It means if your manufacturing and have to take items a long way you'll prob charge more for them than you would at your home location.
Sure it will increase travel time and annoy some people, but imo travels too quick atm.
