People go forever without ever being blown up and when they do they get all depressed etc. well you have have gotten past that at a young age and can move on, learn from it and dont let it get you down. your ahead of most ppl in the regards that you can handle the ship loss now and move on whenever it happens agian. and it will :) welcome to eve and i hope my previous rambling made sense bc it doesnt to me
This is so true! I've been playing since mid October and tend to avoid combat with other players. I've lost four ships since I started:
1) Very early days my first Bantam went down to pirates in a an asteroid belt. I just didn't know the game controls, got all flustered and got shot up before I could warp out. I was very upset at the time as I didn't really understand that ships are completely expendable (you are not your ship!!). 2) Early days got myself a relatively expensive Merlin fully equipped and was having a whale of a time doing level 1 missions. Thought I was unstoppable. Warped into a nest of mercenaries for one mission and was shot to bits. Once again got flustered and didn't exit quickly enough. Quite upset at the loss of that lovely expensive ship and went mining for a while. Haven't used a frigate since - moved to Destroyers. 3) Fairly recently in a fully equipped destroyer was busy salvaging and had a nearly full hold. Someone took offence to me looting their wrecks and must have called in a friend in the same corporation. Next thing I knew I was scrambled, being shot to hell, too weak to fight back, too slow to run away and quickly became a ú5M pile of scrap. I was a bit shocked at the speed it all happened, and upset because it took me ages to troll round loads of systems collecting the ship and it's component modules. The money wasn't too much of an issue - a few hours salvaging or mining got that back. I did mourn the nearly full cargo hold of salvaged stuff though. Took a day to get a replacement ship up and running properly. 4) Very recently lost a similar destroyer through stupidity. Busy salvaging (again). I was too low level to salvage one of the ships. and its presence in my display was confusing me as it was similar to loads of other wrecks I wanted to loot. The wreck belonged to someone else. I decided to shoot it to clear it away. Targetted it. Shot it. Got a warning familiar to salvagers about committing a crime. Ignored the warning - then all hell let loose. Security status downgraded, red global "baddie" warning top left, Concorde warping in and taking me out with one shot. Ouch - I was only tidying up. Didn't even have time to think WTF. I didn't expect that shooting someone's (guristas) wreck would be treated like shooting someone's proper ship. I learned a lesson from that one. Upset at losing a ship due to my lack of undertstanding of game mechanics but considerably less emotional about it that the previous three occasions. Only took 2-3 hours to get an exact replacement up and running this time.
I haven't been podded yet - when that happens I will be gutted. Those implants are expensive!
NB OP - always ensure your clone is up to date. On a different topic I advsise the OP to look into the 11 learning skills and cheap set of learning implants as soon as possible
Good Luck.
I'm into manufacturing now so I hope you lose lots of ships in your Career
