I'd like to see something capable of taking out frigates for Capital sized ships... Even the Carrier
Something like a 75mm gatling rail II battery (or equivalent for other races). An Extra Large turret that fit's into a single high slot, but has a battery of say 8 individual 75mm guns that have the same attributes as their frigate sized counterparts so they are fast enough to track most frigates.
It wouldn't be something you'd fit lightly as you'd be losing a valuable High slot, but it would give capital ships a means to fend off attaks from swarms of frigates.
I'm thinking something along the lines of the Phalanx systems that most western warships are equiped with.

this sounds like the FLAK-gun idea I've tried to write about. A highspeed FLAK-cannon send out projectiles that detonates near enemy ship. A large ship should be able to defence itself against frigates if the pilot is ready to loose 1 highslot. A flak-cannon could also require high power and cpu making the sacrifice even greater for the pilot of the capital ship.
Amarr could get FLAK-laser. A extreme highspeed lasercannon spreading laserbeams in a 10degree angle hoping some laser sometimes actually hit a frigate (meanwhile you get a discoeffect you can enjoy meanwhile your cannon is missing it's target).
Caldari could get a highspeed rocketlauncher sending out clusters of rockets that doesn't trace it's target but explode airborne and hopefulle deal some damage to the.
Anti-frigate should be a complement to drones and make large ships being able to fight back small ship if the pilot are willing to sacrifice a highslot (or maybe two) and give up power and cpu. It's not ment to be a a weapon all battleships add just in case to be invinsible against frigates.

Yeah, that's the real sticking point.
It is not meant to make every BS out there invulnerable to frigates, but it could be used to convert one into an anti frigate platform... meaning that if you kit it out with the flak turrets, it would have next to zero offensive capabilities against anything bigger than a destroyer, and wouldn't be able to shoot outside of 10km, but could shred any lightly armed frigate that wanders within the kill zone.

Hmmm, a high slot module that does non specific damage to small ships in the area...
/me thinks that sounds somewhat like a smart bomb.

It really sound like a smartbomb but 1 big big problem with smartbombs is that theyr range is 5 km on the LARGE so most tackling frigs can simply stay at 6 km or more web, scramble shoot and smartbomb hits all targets inside that radius so dangeours for friends and drones of yours. So I see the smartbomb as the anty drone weapon but because of the small range and high cap consumtion not good for anything else.
Yes there are NAMED officer smartbombs with like 10 km range (worth fitting on a capital ship too expensive for BS because of the high price not including mission runners where if you smart dont have to loose your ship).

And that's kind of the point of the battery of turrets... It would be a targeted system not a hit everything in range type affair.

does a FLAK-gun sound like a smartbomb? I might have wrong cause I've never used a smartbomb but doesn't smartbomb destroy everything within 5km? We don't want something that can destroy everything within 5km. We want the ability to fit larger ships to be a platform for escorting other large ships. And 5km is way too short. 10km is nicer but how about special ammo giving given range. ammo1:great damage within 10km but no way it can reach further. ammo2:great damage within 10-20 but no ability to deal damage within 10 or further then 20km. ammo3:dealing damage at 20-30km ammo4:dealing damage at 30-40km
FLAK-guns doesn't work like normal guns and you deal no damage at al if you use wrong ammo. The idea with so many types of ranges is so 1 platform should be able to reach close friendly large ships.
