one of the strongest feelings ive got while playing eve is the one of being isolated from other players even from my own guild members.
the interface is cold yet functional I would love to see an interface look more like the console you see on a spaceship or workstations on a bridge.
theres not much to do while in direct transit either in real space or gate jumping,, how about adding in some module diagnostics and maintence routines that players can do while traveling like realigning their hybred gun sites or degausing the capacitor nothing too involved but that can give a slight benefit to the maintence contious player.
also ita hard to get a real feel for whats going on in the galaxy
as for socialization its prety hard when all the avatar you got is a ship maby better ways for people to interact and work together id love to see formation flying for one thing.

Thats the point of your character access a console ?
you are floating in a contrainer of goo controlling the ship by a direct brain interface. The interface is computer generated overlay.

then if its computer generated make it look different than it does now because it sucks.

Better yet get EVE Launcher and browse the internet while doing boring stuff in game. Heck I do that while picking up loot after battle quite often.

She's right. There is little to no social interaction in Eve. Granted, Eve isn't that big to begin with, but given how gangs and missions currently work; there is no way for newer players to work with each other; nor is there a way for veteran freelancers to work together on anything either.
Unless you are engaged in some sort of corp activity (few of which usually benefit the player), then it's pretty much a solo game, with pvp options for those who feel foolish enough.
The game is lacking something not related to grinding. If there were more social interaction, people would hang around just for the sake of hanging around, and would eventually go do something when enticed. It would be more hanging around in Eve, as there is no way to play cooperatively, except in PvP which alot of people don't find all that fun to begin with.
Let people be silly, and more importantly, let people work together. That would add whole new levels to this game.

You can mission, mine, convoy, rat, etc together. All for immediate profit without the need to be in the same corp. Fly around and ask in local for people to join you.

But they're right, doing stuff with other people is less profitable than doing it alone, in most cases. That should be fixed.

Again, Stoneloader speaks the truth.
Sure, if you feel like begging and bartering with other players nearby, you can get a group together to do a mission. However, as only 1 person benefits from anything being done, there is little to no reason to bother with it.
Gang missions(which will be making an appearance soon, so says the drawing board) will also increase migration into low sec, as people will be better off in groups.
- Either that, or it will increase the average size of gatecamps tenfold. Either way, it should be interesting.

I'd like to see something like news broadcasts to add depth to the game...
Each station you go to could launch a small video player in the top corner of the interface telling you about events in the System, constellation and maybe even region if it were significant enough. The video player wouldn't have to actually stream video, just show a static image of something with a voice over or even a tickertape type overlay.
Stories could be generated by scripts within the game such as a generic news bulletin...
"This evening at xx:xx Standard EVE time, Concord were called into the Asteroid belt off of xyz moon in abc system after reports of criminal activity initiated by pod pilot alpha.
There were 3 casualties in the incident, and 2 were def (race that the station is aligned to).
A concord spokesperson claims that the perpetrator was braught to justice swiftly and has had a security infringment added to their record."
POS's could maybe allowed to submit their own news stories within their stations say once a day to let members of the owning corp or alliance plans or battle reports that they could find out about if they had been logged out at the time of the event.

Just a news ticker would do it, especially if you could click news items to bring up a more detailed description.

isolated?????
what?!!
umm ok well, if its social interaction with players your after join our public channel! we are always chatting (public channel "star enterprises"), news is readable in the browser in game. There are stories to read that eve make at least once a week (usually) about events that dont actually happen but could be happening.
Cold interface??
go to the graphics setup and change your colours!

You're right, news is readable in the browser, but as you say, it's not related to things that players actually see.
It would also be nice to see big news events taking place. They could be related to NPC missions that could be set up to support them, something like a big natural disaster on planet xyz resulting in the need for certain goods, like medicines or transportation of civilians away from a system.

yes EVE isnt very social unless your up very close everyone is alittle icon you dont even really know the players ship name and if you want to find out more about them you must use your enemy targeter.
some people say we should have humanoid avatars that can walk around and do stuff and that might be the case if they cant figure a way to make the game as it is more social.
even look at a convoy its really nothing but a cluster of ships they dont gain any particular benefit being together besides more guns in one place you basicly cant protect a hauler or transport any better because you cant provide a defensive screen if an enemy targets a transport with torpedos it doesnt matter if there are 100 ships defending the hauler its dead. the defensive measures and ECM in game (and cloak) SUCK and are waste of slots you never hear of people equiping defender missiles.
how can they make the game more social well probably first thing would be a set of EMOTES usually radio messages and team member target visuals a group member should be able to send out a message to the group that an enemy is approaching preferably with several voice options so everyone doesnt use the same voice (as a back up you could use a warning text box but theres allready too much text) also when a gamg member is shooting at a target other players in their group should be able to easily see which target they have selected.
lastly instead of a single target facing some ships should use several facings there afe facing types from 2-6 that are common one big shield is simple and doesnt require any stratagy or tactics a nice 4 sided front sides back setup would be nice.

Have a look at your overview settings - you can add ship names and types to the interface and all kinds of info to the overview itself

The walking around in stations with full-body avatars thing is on the drawingboard but as that's as complicated as EVE itself it will take a while. Would love to see that one day though!

That depends a lot on how you organize your convoy. If you make sure you have a scout (or more than one if your cargo is very valuable) you can make sure nobody is lurking where you plan to drop out of warp or on the other side of a gate. In case of hostiles an armed escort could possibly take care of them or keep them busy. If you do get in trouble in the end the cloak and ECM can help you A LOT. In my experience a single ECM burst saved me from a lot of opportunistic pirates and a cloak can save you from scan probes. Just don't take a T1 hauler into 0.0 - there are other ships designed for that. In case of those torpedos - speed! A blockade runner with MWD (and granted, some luck) is out of the scramble bubble long before they hit.

Well the text box with basic messages you mention already is there - its integrated in the new gang system, but still all pretty spartan. A more up close and personal way of communicating would add a lot yes, its in development i believe (ingame voice chat with kali2?).

There's some interesting threads on that further below. Might be some lag issues though, depending on how far that would be taken, but i'm no expert :)
/signed on formation flying!
But what i think mostly is that there's always a lot to ask for but in that aspect CCP delivers a LOT! They are continually adding to the game it just doesn't happen overnight. -------------- I'm For Sale! |
