is anyone else having problems with the wrecks? i simply cannot right click on them and i have no right click options in the selected item on the overview so this means i have no approach lock or any way of opening the wreck to loot it. i have played around with overview settings to hopefully fix this but didnt work, i relogged without success. i have filed a petition with a hope of a quick reply, but i am mainly asking if other players have had this problem and if they know of a way to sort it out. thanks in advance

hold ctrl and then left click the wreck.
right click is for newbs, next youll be telling you are having problems with the left click and hold popup menu on your ship, i mean, who uses that?
(all meant in jest)

I had the very same problem. Had to delete character file from the cache/settings to fix it. Unfortunately this nullifies all the character settings. This doesn't affect the user settings though so Overwiew settings are unaffected.

Silly question - you don't have mouse buttons set up for left handed user in windows do you. Does left click do what right click is supposed to? Proud to be a CareBear |

You need to delete your Settings and Prefs.ini to fix it. Worked for me, buddy testing it as we speak

The file you are looking for Hypo is in the EVE\cache\settings\. If you have used only one char with your client there will be only one char file named char_###### there. This is the one you should delete. If you have used more than one char you need to identify the right file first. When you log out with your character your pc modifies the char file of that character thus you can identify it by looking for the char file with the freshest date stamp on it.
Deleting the whole settings folder will do the job too but it will erase all the ingame settings you really don't have to erase.
You should delete prefs.ini too in your cache folder as mentioned above. All files in your cache folder besides the settings folder should be deleted regularily. It's like taking a shower. With all that dirt down the drain your game will run smoother and with fresher odor too.
Doing this will make those wrecks accessible again. I'm sure of it.

a work around is to leftclick on the wreck then in the detail part of the overview (the top part you probally have hidden) there will be the options like open cargo lock target ect

we have had a couple of isolated reports of this. It would appreciated if you could bug report this with a log file so we can investigate this further
A few players have reported renaming their cache file resolves this, if you could try that and report your findings it would be great. ___________________________ ~Jiekon

I have this exact same issue. As the OP said, you cannot right click on a wreck in the overvire nor in space. Also, the row or icons at the top of the overview does not appear. However, all other objects seem to work just fine. Furthermore, if you click on another object, then click on a wreck, the pic of the wreck appears in the overview, but the buttons are for the previous object. If you click off the wreck (to clear the overview detail) then click it again there are no buttons.
Also, as was said, double clicking a wreck will always show 0 items in it.
The only way I have actually been able to target a wreck is to click a weapon system/tractor (which brings up the targeting cross-hair) then clicking the wreck. Still can't loot it though.
I've had a number of DCs in the past week so maybe that is the issue. I'll try the clear cache method mentioned above and see if that works.

Only problem I have with wrecks is the time it takes to salvage them - most L3 missions I complete in 30mins then spend about 50mins salvaging (very little of that time is actually move from wreck to wreck, its the cycle time of the salvagers). A nice little rig which speeds up cycle times with a large cap penalty would be a good idea.

I also had the OP's problem on an isolated character. Essentialy the fix comes down to deleting the affected character's settings file. The simple way to so this is to rename your cache folder, then reload the game on only the character that was affected. After this confirm you can manipulate a wreck, then close the game down. Copy the the newly created cache folder into the old one and overwrite older files. if you're worried make a coopy of your renamed cache folder before you do this. Then delete the new cache folder and re-rename your old folder back to cache. If you could make out what I've just typed you'll be fine. ----

I've had this problem too: unable to target/rightclick/open/salvage wrecks. I solved it by deleting all my settings and cache (only deleting my cache didn't work).

I would have thought deleting/removing char_xxxxxxx.dat file located at (/EVE/cache/Settings/char_(your_ID_nr).dat) file should fix this. there might be multible char_id.dat's there, depending on if youve logged inn more than 1 char on your current install.
exmp filename: (char_503837294.dat) by making a backupp folder, and just moving the char file there, you can cycle through the different *.dat files, and pinnpointing exacly wich file you need to remove.

This doesn't really make any sense as such... Since the settings are located in the cache folder anyway.... so by deleting your cache, you've already deleted your settings anyhow.
Dont get it how deleting your cache didnt work and deleting both ... erm.. cache and settings.. since youve alreaddy deleted your settings when you've deleted your cache, .... how on earth did you find the settings at all when you've alreaddy deleted it... putting this into code you'd get a meltdown cycle.. yay!!! never ending loops are soo much funn.. woohoo!... :: rebell against opression ::

How about I tell you that I deleted everything in my cache folder except the prefs.ini and the "settings" subfolder?

This bug has been around forever. I get is some times and it is not restricted to wrecks, it generally is everything. The free space menu will come up and the overview right click still works but nothing works for the objects in space.
I have gotten in the habit of using the overview for ships/wrecks. Never bothered to bug report it since this is the least of the long term bugs that CCP has yet to fix.

I did this, and it came back.
It comes back when you log another account onto the eve-install and loot something from a wreck.
For example: "Eve" Is installed in P:\Games\EVE, I use this install for my "Main". "Eve2" Is installed in P:\Games\EVE2, I use this install for my "Hauler".
If I clear the settings for both installs, included perfs, both installs word fine until I log my "Hauler" on from the "Eve" install (instead of "Eve2") and loot something from a wreck, when I log my "Main" back in to the "Eve" install I get the wreck bug.
The only way to clear it is delete all the settings and perfs.ini and NOT log in another account onto that install.
At least, this is my exp with it. __________________________________________ -= We Fly for our people =- -= I fly for Blood =- |

Semi-related, but personally i find it much more reliable and convenient to use the overview buttons for selected item than the right click menu for things like approach, opening and whatever... especially now when the icons don't shuffle around all the time when some of them become available/disabled ^^;;

the problem is a corrupted char.dat file in your client cache. delete it and its solved.
Details are available in known issues and workaround page, including a little rant at ccp.
ANyways, replace your char.dat file in settings and its solved.

I haven't read this rant, but i just wanted to say that we brought this to the attention of the programmers after receiving some good bug reports and it appears to be fixed in the next client patch. ___________________________ ~Jiekon
