People still play it
But certianly it had better days, to answer your main question..
Orbital strikes from EVE players are most commonly found in Factional warfare battles in DUST, in order ot supply a Orbital bombardment you would have to be enlisted in the Militia, then cordinate with a DUST player on were he is being deployed too and head there
Planets have things called "districts" which are areas DUST players fight to take for their faction, you will go to what District her or she has been deployed to, connect to the district once in orbit and wait 3 minutes to capture a satellite
Once that is done, Every Squad leader in DUST (thats aligned with your faction) will get a alert of a Off map support being available for use (although its a bit buggy) and then the squad leader would open a a tac map and place a beacon where ever he or she chooses and confirm the choice
then YOU will get a locked target of what would look like a DUST player's portrait, simply fire your guns (that have Oribtal spcefic ammo) and unleash carnage on the console peasants, and back on the subject of ammo there are 3 types, Hybrid, Laser and EMP...EMP is **** so never look at it, Hybrid is ok but Laser ammo is what EVERY duster wants due to its power and lighting speed hits, melting anything in its small, but powerful blast radius
Also besides FW orbital bombardments there are "Planetary conquest battles" (or PC for short) and theses battles are much like FW battles except they only happen in the "Molden heath" region and to supply OBs for theses battles you have to be in a corporation associated with a battle or in the same alliance |

yes, but I didn't know how to get access to Orbital Strikes otherwise than by a DUST ingame item.
According to the above post, there may be another way to get or gain them. |

Orbital strikes are frequently used in FW and PC battles. EVE pilots can participate only if they meet one or more of the criteria Foley mentioned above (same faction for FW or same alliance for PC.) There are no other way to perform Orbital Strikes to date.
During battles, DUST mercs accumulate war points (WP) by doing different actions (taking objectives, killing enemies, etc.) and when they accumulate enough WP (typically a squad of several members can accumulate WP faster) the squad leader can request a strike as explained above. Only one pilot can fire per strike request, if for example more than one pilot get the locked target indicator, as soon as one fires the lock is lost from the rest and only that pilot gets on any potential kill mails. |

I thought you had to get an item named : "" Call an Orbital strike".
I think I read something about XP when playing DUST 514 . |

You are probably thinking about War Points (WP) which determine player ability to use Warbarge Strikes.
Typically once players amass a combined amount of WP in a match they gain access to to a specific size or type of Warbarge Strike which they can launch at will. These strikes are different from the ones players can provide.

No, I knew nothing about those Warbarge Strikes and I still don't have details as to how they are lauinched, where from , etc.
There used to be items in the EVE 10 years Collector's edition for DUST 514 one of which consisted of one call for an orbital strike by a player in the nearby planet orbit. Those used to work with destroyers before, until they were updated / upgraded to other ships.
Also, I could not find details on how to use the War Points or other points yet, but I only played DUST 514 two or 3 times on someone else's (store) PS3, and made 2 accounts. I managed to post on their forum once.

I was until people stopped organising them in militia intel channels. It just got too confusing to tell who was who on the ground because DUST mercs can so easily fight for different sides. :/
It was a fun mechanic. It kept me busy in the sky watching for enemies and it kept it exciting on the ground for those fighting.

It is fun. It is also even more competitive in PC matches since no one can switch sides as easily.
I've compiled a detailed wiki page that explains how everything works for the interested. With only 4 months before DUST is kill, try to experience this if you haven't. I sure hope they maintain if not increase such cross game aspects when it finally gets ported to PC.

I can put a donation link on my Twitch or kick starter page to get support for a new internet connection. However, it is almost esaier for me to make a plan to offer internet as an ISP (with insurance). |
