What is the difference between scoop to drone bay and return to drone bay? They seem to do the same function, but if this is true why would there be two commands for the same function?

scoop to drone bay works on drones abandoned by other people in middle of space right next to your ship. Return to drone bay works on drones you control and will cause them to dock with your ship even if they're a distance away. __________________________ Why babelfish is bad mmm k "which the night do not expect that it calls the primary education before becoming deformed inside" |

They do the same thing - your drones end up the drone bay, yes. My explanation is that "return to drone bay" is a command you give to the drones themselves and "scoop to drone bay" is what you do when they lost connection and don¦t listen to commands anymore...however, why there are both options at the same time is beyond me, too. ________________________________

This may be true I will check it out when I get a chance. But both work on drones under my command though.

If your drones are too far away to be collected (1500) then Return is the best as they do it on their own. Scoop is when they are not in your control and you have to be within the 1500 range.
I believe that if you are controlling your drones and you say scoop they automatically fly into range and go into your drone bay.

Scooping is instant and guaranteed to work barring lag. Drones ordered to return to drone bay might get stuck hugging each other, be destroyed on the way, or you might warp out or get blown up.
A drone can be scooped if it is under your control or under nobody's control.

The other case where you need scoop is if you have to warp out, abandoning your drones. When you jump back in, they'll be there drifting, but no longer under your control. So you'd have to scoop them, then relaunch them to be able to use them again.

Third option if your drone bay is full, you can right click a drone in space and sending to the cargo hold.

So.
Then the question is: WHY in the world (OK, in the Universe, then...), would anyone EVER choose "Return to Drone Bay" instead of "Scoop to Drone Bay?"
I don't get it.

Return to drone bay is a command you issue, and they'll listen out to whatever your current drone control range is. If they're farther away, you'll have to close the gap.
Scoop to drone bay works within 1500m.

"Return to drone bay" means "hey drones, fly back to the ship and dock". It affects drones under your control, as long as they are within command range.
"Scoop to Drone Baay" means, "hey you knuckheads down in the drone deck, pull the drones back in." If only works on drones very close to the ship, but can affect drones not currently under your direct command, like drones that were abandoned when you warped out of a belt or mission.

Because Scoop only works when Drones are 1500m from your ship?
