Hello there!
I've started playing this awesome game 4 days ago but only yesterday I started having a problem that makes me really furious at the game!
When I'm doing something in the game, be it ratting, mining, just docked and chatting to someone or buying something in the market or anything else my game just crashes for 1 or 2 seconds and then resumes normally, after a few seconds ( between 40 secs/1 minute) it happens again... crashes for 1 or 2 seconds and starts working again. :S
I never had any problem playing video games on this computer :\ and I know this is something minor but actually annoys the hell out of me :P
My Computer spec is the following:
AMD 64 @ 3 Ghz 2Gb DDR GeForce 7600GT 256MB 160GB Windows XP SP2 Latest Graphic card drivers and Pipex Homecall 8MB broadband.
Thanks to everyone in advance :)
See you around!

If it crashed, you had to log in again. Thus it was not a crash. Try again after the unscheduled reboot. Try turning sound off and closing all windows that have listing (such as contract and market browse). ----- n-1. ??? n. Profit!

I can't really understand what you mean by the game crashing for 1-2 seconds.
If you mean that there's a little delay between you clicking the button, and the window opening then thats just normal...
When we are talking about crashes, then we usually mean a crash to desktop, and in that case EVE wouldn't resume normally afterwards.
Hope it helped!

I'm pretty sure he is referring to the momentary and sometimes not so momentary freezes that happen to basically everyone. It's a known issue but you could read the performance tips threads and sort it out some.

By crashing I meant the game stopping for a while then resuming normally. Nothing happens, I'm not taken to the desktop, my game doesn't disconnect, the screen and actions just stop for 1 or 2 seconds and after that goes away it just works normally again. It's always happening and its frsutrating because I cant do anything properly with the game always freezing(?) on me.

I had this for a while. The game would hang for upto a minute at times. I don't know what fixed it, but heres a list of things I did.
Defrag harddrives Defrag Pagefile Run Chkdsk on each harddrive Move game to different HD to system (if you have two drives) Move system HD and Game HD onto seperate controllers (if you have two drives) Reinstall with the latest full build. Set the priority of exefile.exe (Eve process) to High. Make sure nothing else is running in background. Check for sufficient cooling in the system. Go through Event Viewer and resolve any "Red X incidents"
Basically its either going to be heat related to the CPU/Memory/GFX card or its going to be your system is doing something that it classes as a higher priority to the game, so the game has to wait until its finished.

You've got something running on your machine that's making extremely heavy use of your HDD and/or processor. ---

Yeah Grez that's what I tought at first.
But if I press Ctrl+Shift+ESC while in the game the process using the most CPU and most memory is the game itself the other processes aren't using any unusual amounts of memory :\ and said processes are normal processes that always run in the background while I play other games nothing out of ordinary.
Don't really know what's happening :( Never had any kind of problems with games like Need for Speed Carbon, ESIV Oblivion, FEAR, WoW, etc
If I can't sort the problem out in 9 days (the tiem until the trial expires) I don't think I'm going to upgrade the account to a payable one because I don't liek to play a game in this condition

I have the same problem. I have tried all the FPS tricks and they dont work.
My theory is that the game is doing some syncing in back ground every so often to keep it up to date. The code was great for the first couple years when the number of gamers was low but as the community grew so did the logistics problem of getting the packets out to the clients. I really believe the game code needs some tweaking to distribute the work load evenly. It is possible that you get allot of bulk traffic in a few packets every so often that takes the game kernel a second or 2 to process to keep every one synced. I'm not really sure why I would need info about players in far off systems other than for the star map updates which it pulls when you request it. maybe a dev could illuminate why we all see some sort of freeze occansionally. I monitor my CPU usage and eve will consume 4% resources then all of a sudden it jumps to 60, 70 or even 80% then it returns back to 4%. I have tried it in several systems with different traffic lvls and no difference.
I'm not really sure if I want to invest the time to build up my skill just to lose ships in middle of a battle because of a game freeze. Would be really frustrating to lose big chunks of money for that reason.
I have a very hi end system and never even break a sweat when running extensive programs like CAD or runnning 2 game clients same time for other MMORPG's.

it's already been mentioned above, but I had a very similar problem and it was caused by my laptop overheating. Try whatever you can think of to cool down your system and see if it keeps happening. I know you have a pretty good PC, but Eve is being very demanding on your system lately.

Its not system overheating. Like I said this system has been built for very hi end usage. I have been building computers for 15 years and know ins an outs of them. heat is usually one place I look for that type of problem. Sorry... its not here.

I have nearly the exact same problem. If I open up a new market tab or whatever, everything pauses for a few seconds. I can move my cursor and my music playing in the background doesn't hiccup, but the Eve client (other than the cursor) is frozen. After a second or two, it goes on as if nothing has happened.
I've noticed pretty much the same problem flying around, but on a larger scale. It seems like anytime something new enters the grid I'm on, I get a brief pause. In large fleet battles, it's about 1000x worse. And it's not a situation of module lag or FPS problems, it's the entire client pausing and then continuing fine.
It seems like it may be an issue of the CPU being pinned at 100%, since I have a dual core machine all my other programs continue to run as normal. Still, I don't know what could be causing it. I've also tried setting Eve's processor affinity to one core, and increasing the priority, but it hasn't helped any. I've run through most of the "fps booster" threads here, but didn't see anything that would be applicable.
My FPS is also totally fine normally, it just has these super annoying pauses.
It's also not my harddrive churning or accessing the swap file, so defragging and such won't help. Specs are listed below:
AMD Athlon x2 3800+ (Socket 939) DFI Lanarty NF4 SLI-DR Evga GeForce 7950 GX2 2x1gb OCZ titanium memory 2x400gb HDDs in RAID0 SoundBlaster X-Fi Fatal1ty
Anyone have any ideas?

I get that too. The game hiccups constantly. I highly doubt its a cpu, graphics card, or memory problem since it happens during the following:
1. It starts happening only after about 30 min to an hour of playing. It doesn't do this when game first starts for awhile.
2. It does it constantly...even when idling in dock and doing NOTHING at all.
I have a feeling it may be a memory leak issue.

There is a processorfix from AMD, have you installed that?

I have a similar issue to Ilarra - but I have an Intel Core 2 Duo and Radeon 1950pro. I get the pauses every few minutes like clockwork. Annoying, and difficult to ignore. Considering how different our respective hardware is, I doubt its something specific to AMD or a particular graphics chipset. I have the latest drivers. I have defragged. I have 2 gigs of ram. I have fast HDs. The hardware is more the adequate and I do not have this issue with other applications or games. It does not just happen when new meshes/texture are being loaded, it happens in dry dock and just about anywhere else.

The pause when selling or opening the market window is not what I or Ilarra are referring to.

Ahh, this thread talks about my problem exactly. I've tried everything I can think of, running defrags, TuneUp, turning off all start programs, killing every process that isn't critical to windows, etc. I just can't make the random freezeups stop.
Game music is always fine, but entire interface and mouse will freeze momentarily often enough I can't quite just ignore it. The only thing I didn't try, in case it is disk access related, is copying all of the game to a ramdisk. I have 3 gig of ram so I could do that... game is only about 1.8 gig.
People with dual core cpus have this problem also, and it is fixed with a patch from AMD or microsoft. But that problem affects many games. I don't have dual core, and I've never seen anything like this except in EvE.
If anyone with this program finds a work around please do come back here and let us know so we can try whatever you did. :)

Would this be the dual core problem? Can you confirm that you are running AMD dual core and getting the problem.
If so, I'd suggest the AMD fix mentioned above by Beerdrinker.
